The impacts incurred by floods regularly affect the planets population, inflicting social and economic problems. Optimal control strategies based on reservoir management may aid in controlling floods and mitigating the resulting damage. To this end, an accurate dynamic representation of water systems is needed. In practice, flood control strategies rely on hydrological forecasting models obtained fromconceptual or data-drivenmethods. Encouraged by recent works, this research proposes a novel surrogate model for water flow in a river channel based on physics-informed neural networks (PINNs). This approach achieved promising results regarding the assimilation of real-data measurements and the parameter identification of differential equations that govern the underlying dynamics. This article investigates PINN performance in a simulated environment built directly from a configuration of the Saint-Venant equations. The objective is to create a suitable model with high prediction accuracy and scientifically consistent behavior for use in real-Time applications. The experiments revealed promising results for hydrological modeling and presented alternatives to solve the main challenges found in conventional methods while assisting in synthesizing real-world representations. Impact Statement-The research seeks to contribute to the hydrological modeling area with a surrogate model based on physicsinformed neural networks (PINNs) to water flow in a watershed. In practice, thesemodels use conceptual or *** models to reach the precision provided by themethodology use large numbers of physical parameters. These parameters can demand deep knowledge about the environment and are possibly hard to identify in a complex basin. Diagnosability is an important parameter to measure the fault tolerance of a multiprocessor system. If we only care about the state of a node, instead of doing the global diagnosis, Hsu and Tan proposed the idea of local diagnosis. Chiang and Tan provided an extended star structure to diagnose a node under comparison model. In this work, we evaluate the local diagnosability better by proposing a tree structure around this node. We provide the corresponding algorithm to diagnose the node. Simulation results are presented for different failure probability of a node in the tree and different percentage of faulty nodes in the tree, showing the performance of our algorithm. © 2024 Institute of Information science. Polymer technology has rapidly advanced across diverse domains, particularly in biomedical applications. Among various polymers, polyurethane (PU) hold great potential in developing biomaterials such as biomedical scaffold and drug delivery. In this study, we have innovatively engineered eco-friendly polyurethane using lignin, a sustainable bio-polyol derived from oil palm empty fruit bunches. To enhance the physicochemical properties of the PU, we have incorporated hydroxyapatite (HA) into the composites. The inclusion of HA has led to notable improvements in crucial properties such as density, porosity, and water absorption, making these composites ideal candidates for tissue regeneration scaffolds. Furthermore, to assess their biomedical applicability in drug delivery and cell scaffolding, we have employed the quercetin drug model. The results revealed a sustained kinetic release behavior within the polyurethane/hydroxyapatite (PU/HA) composites, showcasing their potential for controlled drug delivery applications. Moreover, cytotoxicity assays conducted using neuro-2a cell models demonstrated the non-cytotoxic nature of both PU and PU/HA composites. This finding holds significant implications for biomedical applications, indicating that these composites offer biocompatible platforms for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine endeavors. The ability of these composites to support cell viability underscores their potential for a wide range of biomedical applications, including neural tissue engineering and drug delivery systems targeting brain diseases. These findings pave the way for the development of innovative and sustainable biomaterials with diverse biomedical applications. Analysis of water wave interaction with multiple submerged semi-circular porous structures

The impact of an array of bottom-mounted semi-circular breakwaters on wave scattering and trapping is investigated. Under the assumption of linear water wave theory, a computational solution is developed using the methods of eigenfunction expansion and multi-domain boundary element. In order to understand how different structural and wave characteristics affect wave flow, the reflection, transmission and dissipation factors are evaluated and investigated. The study reveals that the Bragg reflection happens when a series of porous semi-circular breakwaters scatter waves. In addition, the presence of four structures causes nearly 80 % of the wave energy to dissipate. As the number of semi-circular breakwaters rises, the hydrodynamic forces acting on the impermeable sea wall greatly reduce. The study concludes that the number of structures, radius and porous-effect parameters of the structures plays a vital role in wave reflection, reducing the hydrodynamic load on the impenetrable sea wall. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Full-marathon and Half-marathon distances are categorized as road running. Full-marathon running is becoming increasingly popular, and Half-marathon is increasing worldwide in both sexes and all age groups. Some aspects might relate to Full-marathon and Half-marathon running performance during training and races. technology also plays an essential role in supporting runners and running races. technology like artificial intelligence (AI) now supports the running athlete, not only predicting performance and results. It can also be used later to help the coach generate training programs for the athlete. This research aimed to find many aspects of marathons and performance and analyze them to see if artificial intelligence could later support them. It used secondary data and a systematic literature review proposed by Kitchenham. Out of the 58 articles, 21 of them (36.21%) received a score of 1 from Q1. Additionally, 19 articles (32.76%) received a score of 1 from both Q2 and Q3. Among the 58 articles, 9 (15.52%) received a total score of 3, with all three Q1, Q2, and Q3 scores being 1. This indicates that artificial intelligence will likely support the content of these nine articles. Several factors were also discovered to be connected to marathons and athletic performance. These findings suggested that additional investigation into marathons and performance, later backed by artificial intelligence, remained pertinent and essential. © 2024 IEEE.

The experiment was carried out by growing BaTiO3 (Undoped or Li-doped) on p-type Si(1 0 0) substrates using the Chemical Solution Deposition (CSD) method and spin coating at a rotational speed of 3000 rpm for 60 s, followed by heating at 850 °C. The characterization results show that the bandgap energy value of the thin film due to lithium doping reduces the bandgap energy value. This is presumably because the donor atom added to a semiconductor causes the allowable energy level to be slightly below the conduction band. The presence of this new band causes the thin film bandgap energy to decrease with a five-valent tantalum dip. The morphological properties showed that the BaTiO3/Si(1 0 0) thin film particles in the deposited lithium had a fairly homogeneous grain. With the addition of lithium acetate as a binder into barium titanate, the grain size is getting smaller because it is suspected that the lithium-ion radius is smaller than the barium-ion radius. Measurement of I-V on the thin film shows that the output voltage value increases with more light intensity hitting the surface of the thin film. The greater the light intensity, the greater the energy of the photons, so the electrons are easier to jump. The three things above (both electrical and morphological properties) conclude that the thin films grown have the potential for photovoltaics. © 2023

According to the market research report, the nuclear decommissioning services market is currently experiencing considerable growth, with a projected Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of nearly 13% during the 2020–2024 forecast period. This expansion is primarily fueled by the advancement of Industry 4.0, in conjunction with the emergence of cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data, artificial intelligence, and 5G. Even though the fact that robots have already been utilized in the nuclear industry, their adoption has been hindered by conservative regulations. However, the nuclear decommissioning market presents an opportunity for the advancement of robotics technology. The British have already invested heavily in encouraging the use of intelligent robots for nuclear decommissioning, and other countries, such as Taiwan, should follow suit. Taiwan's flourishing robotics development industry in manufacturing, logistics, and other domains can be leveraged to introduce advanced robotics in the decommissioning of its nuclear power plants. By doing so, Taiwan can establish itself as a competitive player in the nuclear decommissioning services market for the next two decades. © 2023 Korean Nuclear Society

Skin pathologies encompass a spectrum of conditions, with malignancies such as melanoma representing a critical diagnostic urgency. This investigation delineates the deployment of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for the classification of dermatological anomalies, benchmarking CNN diagnostic fidelity against dermatological expert evaluations. The study underscores the efficacy of CNN classifiers in expediting the diagnostic workflow for various cutaneous disorders. Advocating for an automated diagnostic framework, the research introduces a CNN-based system aimed at reducing human diagnostic load, accelerating diagnostic timelines, and enhancing survival outcomes. Utilizing advanced image processing algorithms and deep learning architectures, the research presents an automated classification system for skin pathologies, addressing both benign and malignant presentations. The classification matrix includes nine dermatological conditions: actinic keratosis, basal cell carcinoma, benign keratosis, dermatofibroma, melanoma, nevus, seborrheic keratosis, squamous cell carcinoma, and vascular lesions. The objective is to engineer a CNN model with robust diagnostic performance across a diverse lesion dataset, ensuring accurate identification and categorization of dermatological conditions. © 2024 IEEE.

Properties of the mixing layer height retrieved from ceilometer measurements in Slovakia and its relationship to the air pollutant concentrations

Mixing layer height (MLH) is an important meteorological parameter for air quality since it significantly affects ground-level pollution in the atmosphere. This study examined the properties of the MLH on diurnal and seasonal timescales over a 3-year period (2020–2022) using high temporal resolution measurements from eight Vaisala CL31 ceilometers situated around Slovakia. Hourly averaged MLH data was retrieved from the BL-View software using merged method. The highest daily maxima for the MLH occurred mostly in summer and spring, while the lowest values occurred predominantly during winter and autumn. The average MLH daily maximum in summer was 2229 m, and just 859 m in winter. During summer, the spatial distribution of the MLH daily maxima was more uniform compared to winter, when the air masses within the individual valleys did not mix well. Correlations between ground-level pollutant concentrations and hourly mean/daily mean MLH were analyzed. The highest correlation, R≈0.6, was found for O3. For PM10, PM2.5, and NOx, the anticorrelations with MLH were found with maximum in winter (R ≈ − 0.3 for hourly data and R ≈ − 0.5 for daily mean data) but no relation in summer. Lastly, the ceilometer MLH was compared to the radiosonde retrieved MLH for various cloud covers. Our analysis is based on an extensive set of empirical data, which can improve the accuracy and effectiveness of meteorological and atmospheric chemistry models. The findings can support air pollution forecasting and warning systems, providing valuable insights for policymakers and researchers. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.
