Heart rate (HR) signal analysis is widely used in the medicine and medical research area. Physical activities (PA) are commonly recognized to greatly affect the changes of heart rate. A method of Evolutionary Neural Network - Neuro-evolution of Augmenting Topologies (NEAT) is used to build a PA-based HR predictor model. Through special coding, crossover and mutation operator, NEAT can implement network topology and connectivity weights evolution simultaneously. The common problem in evolutionary neural network, like competing conventions, how to protect the new innovation are effectively solved. The experimental results demonstrated the application potential of the approach.

We present a fast collision detection method for deformable surfaces with parallel spatial hashing on GPU architecture. The efficient update and access of the uniform grid are exploited to accelerate the performance in our method. To deal with the inflexible memory system, which makes the building of stream data a challenging task on GPU, we propose to subdivide the whole workload into irregular segments and design an efficient evaluation algorithm, which employs parallel scan and stream compaction, to build the stream data in parallel. The load balancing is a key aspect that needs to be considered in the SIMD parallelism. We break the heavy and irregular collision computation down into lightweight part and heavyweight part, ensuring the later perfectly run in load balancing manner with each concurrent thread processes just a single collision. In practice, our approach can perform collision detection in tens of milliseconds on a PC with NVIDIAGTX 260 graphics card on benchmarks composed of millions of triangles. The results highlight our speedups over prior CPU-based and GPU-based algorithms.

This paper is concerned with lag synchronization of two coupled delayed systems with parameter mismatch. Due to parameter mismatch, complete lag synchronization can not be achieved. Therefore, a new lag quasi-synchronization scheme is proposed to ensure that coupled systems are in a state of lag synchronization with an error level. Several simple criteria are derived and the error level is estimated by applying a generalized Halanary inequality and matrix measure. Three examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed lag quasi-synchronization scheme. It is shown that as the coupling strength increases, the estimated error level is close to the simulated one, which well supports theoretical results.

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems may suffer from both carrier frequency offset (CFO) and in-phase/quadrature-phase (I/Q) imbalance at the receiver front end. In this paper, a novel type of intercarrier interference (ICI) self-cancellation method using mirror mapping is proposed to combat these impairment. Based on the proposed novel method and by adopting two widely used mapping operations, we altogether derive two different mirror mapping schemes. Analysis and simulation results verify that the proposed mirror mapping schemes not only inherit the efficiency of the existing self-cancellation schemes in suppressing ICI caused by CFO but also have the ability of compressing or even eliminating IQ imbalance.

The event-triggered H_(infinity) control design is investigated for networked control systems with uncertainties and transmission delays. A novel event-triggering scheme is proposed, which has some advantages over traditional ones with a continuous detector. Considering the effect of the transmission delay, a delay system model for the analysis is firstly constructed. Then, based on the model and Lyapunov functional method, criteria for the stability with an H_(infinity) norm bound and criteria for the co-design of both the feedback gain and the trigger parameters are derived. In order to solve the feedback gain and the trigger parameters, the linear matrix inequality technique is employed. From the simulation example, it can be concluded that the proposed event-triggering scheme is superior to some other event-triggering schemes in some existing literature.
