We present a scheme for estimating the noise-equivalent temperature difference (NETD) of frequency upconversion detectors (UCDs) that detect mid-infrared (MIR) light. In particular, this letter investigates the frequency upconversion of a periodically polarized crystal based on lithium niobate, where a mid-infrared conversion bandwidth of 220 nm can be achieved in a single poled period by a special design. Experimentally for a temperature target with a central wavelength of 7.89 μm in mid-infrared radiation, we estimated the NETD of the device to be 56 mK. Meanwhile, a direct measurement of the NETD was performed utilizing conventional methods, which resulted in 48 mK. We also compared the NETD of our UCD with commercially available direct mid-infrared detectors. Here, we showed that the limiting factor for further NETD reduction of our device is not primarily from the upconversion process and camera noise, but from the limitations of the heat source performance. Our detectors have good temperature measurement performance and can be used for a variety of applications involving temperature object identification and material structure detection. This paper presents an ultra-wideband spectrum monitoring system using a software defined radio platform. The system has been developed by using an Ettus X310 universal software radio peripheral (USRP) for data acquisition and a laptop for displaying the graphical user interface. The system can operate in two modes with two different daughter boards installed. One of the operation modes allows simultaneously monitoring up to two different channels, each with a maximum sampling bandwidth of 200 MHz, or simultaneously monitoring up to four different channels, each with a maximum sampling bandwidth of 100 MHz. The other operation mode allows monitoring a single channel with a maximum sampling bandwidth exceeding 300 MHz. Furthermore, unlike the widely adopted GNU Radio software, the proposed system software is friendly to the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Among different electromagnetic spectrum monitoring tasks, a fundamental one is detecting the presence of weak communication signal under non-cooperative setting. Various detection methods have been studied in the literature. These detection methods usually construct a proper hypothesis testing metric to distinguish the signal-plus-noise and noise-only signals. information entropy based metric has recently been studied and shown its superiority over traditional energy based metrics. We find that it can be explained as a realization of the general Kullback-Leibler divergence. Inspired by that, in this paper, we propose to detect the signal using a statistic divergence called β-divergence. Different choices of β will lead to several well known divergences, e.g., Itakura-Saito divergence and Euclidean distance. We study its detection performance for non-cooperative signal sources. Both simulation and real experiments demonstrate that β-divergence can improve detection performance for various modulation types of communication signals.

A defective insulator detection method based on improved You Only Look Once version 4 (YOLOv4) is proposed to improve the precision of defective insulator detection. This method designs a dual-branch attention block by simulating the attention process of the human eye, and introduces it into the backbone of YOLOv4 to extract richer information on defective insulator features. To make the output feature map of shallow layer network fuse more different scale features, a path aggregation network has been designed. To improve detection accuracy, the spatial pyramid pooling has been replaced by atrous spatial pyramid pooling. A dynamic non-maximum suppression method is proposed to improve defective insulator detection accuracy. It employs an adaptive threshold control strategy and weighted operation to full use of the predicted box. We compare our method with defective insulator detection methods based on YOLO and R-CNN. Our simulation results show that the proposed method is more accurate than defective insulator detection methods based on YOLO, and has a faster detection speed than methods based on R-CNN. Compared with the defective insulator detection method based on R-CNN that has the highest mean average precision, the mean average precision of the proposed method is lower, but its detection speed is faster. Compared with YOLOv4, its detection speed is slower, but the mean average precision is higher. Radio imaging is rapidly gaining prominence in the design of future communication systems, with the potential to utilize reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) as imaging apertures. Although the sparsity of targets in three-dimensional (3D) space has led most research to adopt compressed sensing (CS)-based imaging algorithms, these often require substantial computational and memory burdens. Drawing inspiration from conventional Fourier transform (FT)-based imaging methods, our research seeks to accelerate radio imaging in RIS-aided communication systems. To begin, we introduce a two-stage wavenumber domain 3D imaging technique: first, we modify RIS phase shifts to recover the equivalent channel response from the user equipment to the RIS array, subsequently employing traditional FT-based wavenumber domain methods to produce target images. We also determine the diffraction resolution limits of the system through k-space analysis, taking into account factors including system bandwidth, transmission direction, operating frequency, and the angle subtended by the RIS. Addressing the challenge of limited pilots in communication systems, we unveil an innovative algorithm that merges the strengths of both FT- and CS-based techniques by substituting the expansive sensing matrix with FT-based operators. Our simulation outcomes confirm that our proposed FT-based methods achieve high-quality images while demanding few time, memory, and communication resources. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Retrieving range information in three-dimensional (3D) radio imaging is particularly challenging due to the limited communication bandwidth and pilot resources. To address this issue, we consider a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided uplink communication scenario, generating multiple measurements through RIS phase adjustment. This study successfully realizes 3D single-frequency imaging by exploiting the near-field multi-view image correlations deduced from user mobility. We first highlight the significance of considering anisotropy in multi-view image formation by investigating radar cross-section properties and diffraction resolution limits. We then propose a novel model for joint multi-view 3D imaging that incorporates occlusion effects and anisotropic scattering. These factors lead to slow image support variation and smooth coefficient evolution, which are mathematically modeled as Markov processes. Based on this model, we employ the Expectation Maximization-Turbo-Generalized Approximate Message Passing algorithm for joint multi-view single-frequency 3D imaging with limited measurements. Simulation results reveal the superiority of joint multi-view imaging in terms of enhanced imaging ranges, accuracies, and anisotropy characterization compared to single-view imaging. Combining adjacent observations for joint multi-view imaging enables a reduction in the measurement overhead by 80%. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Nowadays, image recognition plays a pivotal role in acquiring data via sensors. However, the adaptability of traditional algorithms is hindered by the unpredictable nature of open environments, varying sensor quality, and image dimensions. Challenges arise in adverse conditions like inclement weather, low light, and optical distortions. Retinex-based methods have emerged as a viable solution, effectively enhancing images plagued by shadows or poor lighting. Yet, issues surface when images possess saturated colors;the conventional multi-scale Retinex with color restoration risks color inversion. Moreover, during gain compensation, extreme histogram values occupy significant gray level space, obscuring vital image details. This study delves into these challenges and proposes an enhanced multi-scale Retinex algorithm. Our approach substitutes logarithmic functions with tansig functions, eliminating color inversion risks. Additionally, a novel gain compensation method, integrating histogram stretching with Gamma correction, refines image clarity. The algorithm's robustness is evidenced in diverse scenarios, including adverse weather, low light, underwater imaging, and non-uniform lighting. Experimental results validate our method's superiority, surpassing other Retinex-based techniques both qualitatively and quantitatively. This research contributes valuable insights into image enhancement methodologies, fostering advancements in sensor-based data gathering in Smart Spaces. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. Energy losses during the conversion and supply of electric power are considered a significant issue and cannot be estimated. Improvement in the efficiency of energy conversion systems is highly restricted because of their internal nonlinearity and complexity. Thus, inspired by the successful utilization of robotic chemists, we demonstrate a pioneering concept of artificial intelligence (AI)-aided automatic online real-time optimization of a power electronics converter using a dual active bridge (DAB) converter as an example. An optimal modulation strategy was obtained through repeated automatic exploration experiments on a practical DAB converter platform. Specifically, the DAB experimental platform operated autonomously around the clock for approximately 71 h. It performed 120,000 consecutive experiments (12,000 episodes) within a six-variable experimental space driven by a deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) algorithm. The proposed AI-aided automatic online real-time optimization method achieved significantly improved efficiency of power conversion and supply. Consequently, zero carbon emissions may be obtained in the future. © 2023

This paper addresses the motion estimation and signal integration problem for high speed target detection with airborne bistatic radar, where the range migration (RM) and Doppler frequency migration (DFM) induced by target's motion, and the motion error of the airborne bistatic radar are all taken into account. We establish the signal model for airborne bistatic radar system with high-speed target, along with motion error model which simultaneously encompasses both translational error and rotational error. Besides, we propose a motion estimation and signal integration method. In particular, the proposed method applies the generalized Radon transform (GRT) to the estimate target's equivalent motion parameters (i.e., range, velocity and acceleraiton). Subsequently, the proposed method utilizes the 3-dimensional (3-D) generalized Radon Fourier transform (GRFT) to achieve the motion error parameters estimation of airborne platform, where the signal coherent integation results could also be obtained. Numerical simulations and performance analysis verify the effectiveness of proposed approach, which can obtain better integration detection and estimation performance than the typical existed methods.

UAV-NIDD: A Dynamic Dataset for Cybersecurity and Intrusion Detection in UAV Networks

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are necessary for numerous tasks but are vulnerable to cyber threats due to their widespread use and connectivity. The lack of a comprehensive dataset necessitates the development of effective detection and mitigation solutions. Our work introduces UAV-NIDD, a new dataset that addresses the gaps in understanding and countering both cyber and physical threats in UAV networks. It includes three distinct attack scenarios: compromised UAV initiating a network-wide attack, access point compromised network-wide intrusion, and compromised Ground control Station (GCS) establishing a network-wide attack. We develop a real-time testbed for creating UAV-NIDD (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles-Network Intrusion Detection Dataset), incorporating UAV devices, data collection tools, and controllers. Our testbed facilitates cyberattack execution and data gathering under normal and attack conditions. Our dataset covers various cyber-attacks like Scanning, Reconnaissance, DoS, DDoS, GPS Jamming & Spoofing, MITM, Replay, Evil Twin, Brute-Force, and Fake Landing packet attacks. Additionally, UAV-NIDD presents a valuable resource for AI and ML solutions, strengthening UAV networks against evolving cyber threats. Moreover, we offer open access and cooperative innovation in terms of long-term updating of dataset. © 2013 IEEE.
