Substrate integrated waveguide filter with improved stopband performance using LTCC technology

A novel multi-layer third-order substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) bandpass filter with improved lower stopband performance is proposed. TE201-mode in folded-SIW cavity is utilized to implement negative cross coupling, and the TE101-mode is taken as a non-resonating node (NRN) for implementing bypass coupling. A circular aperture etched on the middle metal layer is used to realize coupling between source and the second SIW cavity. Then, three transmission zeros located below the passband can be obtained to improve stopband attenuation. Meanwhile, better spurious suppression performance above passband is achieved. A filter sample is designed and fabricated with multi-layer low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology. The measured S-parameters agree well with the simulated ones, with its predicted good performance. © 2014 Electromagnetics Academy. All rights reserved.

We generalize the typical medium dynamical cluster approximation to multiband disordered systems. Using our extended formalism, we perform a systematic study of the nonlocal correlation effects induced by disorder on the density of states and the mobility edge of the three-dimensional two-band Anderson model. We include interband and intraband hopping and an intraband disorder potential. Our results are consistent with those obtained by the transfer matrix and the kernel polynomial methods. We apply the method to KxFe2−ySe2 with Fe vacancies. Despite the strong vacancy disorder and anisotropy, we find the material is not an Anderson insulator. Our results demonstrate the application of the typical medium dynamical cluster approximation method to study Anderson localization in real materials.

Virtual monopoles in a bosonic atom–diatomic-molecule system

We investigate the virtual monopoles in an ultracold bosonic atom–diatomic-molecule system with a three-level second-quantized model. In the quantum theory, we show that the monopole field of the ground state does not have a spherical symmetry. We calculate the monopole charge and find that it is an integer multiple of the elementary charge g0=12. This multiple exactly reflects the degeneracy properties of the ground state and strongly depends on the total particle number and the atom-number imbalance between two atomic species. In the mean-field limit, we illustrate that the system can create continuous monopole charges in the case of heteronuclear molecules. The underlying mechanism associated with the degeneracy properties and the application related to the quantum phase transition of the monopoles are briefly discussed as well.

High-fidelity fast quantum driving in nonlinear systems

We investigate high-fidelity quantum driving in a nonlinear two-level system and find that nonlinear atomic interaction can break the speed limit of the linear model. We show that repulsive atomic interaction can decrease the minimal time requested for reaching target state even to zero, while attractive atomic interaction tends to increase the minimal time. There exists a critical attractive interaction beyond which the target state cannot be reached with high fidelity. Possible experimental observation of the nonlinear effects using a Bose-Einstein condensate in an accelerating optical lattice is discussed.

We investigate bright,dark and two rogue waves in two-component Bose–Einstein *** is found that one rogue wave of a new structure that contains two humps and two valleys around one center in the temporal-spatial distribution interacts with the conventional rogue *** present an effective way to obtain long-lived rogue waves through managing the nonlinear interaction with modulating trapping frequency and interchange atoms between thermal clouds and *** results provide many possibilities to manipulate rogue waves experimentally in the condensate system.

We generalize the recently introduced dual-fermion (DF) formalism for disordered fermion systems by including the effect of interactions. For an interacting disordered system the contributions to the full vertex function have to be separated into crossing-asymmetric and crossing-symmetric scattering processes, and addressed differently when constructing the DF diagrams. By applying our approach to the Anderson-Falicov-Kimball model and systematically restoring the nonlocal correlations in the DF lattice calculation, we show a significant improvement over the dynamical mean-field theory and the coherent potential approximation for both one-particle and two-particle quantities.

In continuum one-dimensional space, a coupled directed continuous time random walk model is proposed, where the random walker jumps toward one direction and the waiting time between jumps affects the subsequent jump. In the proposed model, the Laplace-Laplace transform of the probability density function P (x, t) of finding the walker at position x at time t is completely determined by the Laplace transform of the probability density function (t) of the waiting time. In terms of the probability density function of the waiting time in the Laplace domain, the limit distribution of the random process and the corresponding evolving equations are derived. © 2014 Long Shi et al.

An Ant Colony Optimization Based Dimension Reduction Method for High-Dimensional Datasets

In this paper, a bionic optimization algorithm based dimension reduction method named Ant Colony Optimization -Selection （ACO-S） is proposed for high-dimensional datasets. Because microarray datasets comprise tens of thousands of features （genes）, they are usually used to test the dimension reduction techniques. ACO-S consists of two stages in which two well-known ACO algorithms, namely ant system and ant colony system, are utilized to seek for genes, respectively. In the first stage, a modified ant system is used to filter the nonsignificant genes from high-dimensional space, and a number of promising genes are reserved in the next step. In the second stage, an improved ant colony system is applied to gene selection. In order to enhance the search ability of ACOs, we propose a method for calculating priori available heuristic information and design a fuzzy logic controller to dynamically adjust the number of ants in ant colony system. Furthermore, we devise another fuzzy logic controller to tune the parameter （q0） in ant colony system. We evaluate the performance of ACO-S on five microarray datasets, which have dimensions varying from 7129 to 12000. We also compare the performance of ACO-S with the results obtained from four existing well-known bionic optimization algorithms. The comparison results show that ACO-S has a notable ability to＂ generate a gene subset with the smallest size and salient features while yielding high classification accuracy. The comparative results generated by ACO-S adopting different classifiers are also given. The proposed method is shown to be a promising and effective tool for mining high-dimension data and mobile robot navigation.

Rogue-wave solutions of a three-component coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equation

We investigate rogue-wave solutions in a three-component coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equation. With certain requirements on the backgrounds of components, we construct a multi-rogue-wave solution that exhibits a structure like a four-petaled flower in temporal-spatial distribution, in contrast to the eye-shaped structure in one-component or two-component systems. The results could be of interest in such diverse fields as Bose-Einstein condensates, nonlinear fibers, and superfluids.
