This paper presents a new method to estimate rotor position indirectly for 12/8 switched reluctance motor (SRM). In this method, searching windings and main windings are wound on stator together. The structure of searching windings is designed to reduce induced voltages caused by main windings. High frequency voltage is applied to searching windings and the position signal is derived from induced high frequency signals. High frequency voltage can be injected from standstill to high speed in this method, thus it can operate in a wide speed range. The proposed method is implemented on a 12/8 SRM and the experimental results demonstrate the validity of this method.

In this paper, we propose a method based on the SVM algorithm to recognize dynamic hand gestures. The information of motion trajectory is captured by a leap motion in three-dimension space. A new methodology of feature extracting is proposed to guarantee the length of samples being the same. The elements of feature vectors are ranged according to two different criteria: one is the amplitude of the variation of orientation angles, and the other criterion is the order of the appearance of features. Experimental results show that this method can classify the dynamic hand gestures effectively.

Real-time performance can be greatly improved, if the early recognition is implemented. In this paper, a dynamic hand gesture early recognition system is proposed. The system can recognize the gesture before it is completed. Our method is based on the Hidden Semi-Markov Models. Three-dimensional information of the gesture trajectory collected by leapmotion is the main data we used. Experiments on the dataset which we established demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

Recruiting or recommending appropriate latent editors who can edit a specific entry (or called article) plays an important role in improving the quality of Wikipedia entries. To predict an editor's editing interest for Wikipedia entries, this paper proposes an Interest Prediction Factor Graph (IPFG) model, which is characterized by editor's social properties, hyperlinks between Wikipedia entries, categories of an entry and other important features. Furthermore, the paper suggests a parameter learning algorithm based on the gradient descent and Loopy Sum-Product algorithms for factor graphs. The experiment on a Wikipedia dataset shows that, the average prediction accuracy (F1-Measure) of the IPFG model could be up to 87.5%, which is about 35% higher than that of a collaborative filtering approach. Moreover, the paper analyses how incomplete social properties and editing bursts affect the prediction accuracy of the IPFG model. What we found would provide a useful insight into effective Wikipedia article tossing, and improve the quality of those entries that belong to specific categories by means of collective collaboration.

The Distributed Generation (DG) has created a challenge and an opportunity for developing various novel technologies in power generation. DG prepares a multitude of services to utilities and consumers, containing standby generation, peaks chopping sufficiency, base load generation. In this paper a planning paradigm for network upgrade based on Modified Shuffled Frog Leaping (MSFL) algorithm is proposed. SFLA is a decrease based stochastic search method that begins with an initial population of frogs whose characteristics, known such as memes, represent the decision variables. The algorithm uses memetic evolution in the form of influencing of ideas from one individual to another in a local search. The paradigm is able to select amongst several choices equi-cost that one assuring the optimum in terms of voltage profile, considering various scenarios of DG penetration and load demand. The proposed algorithm is applied over the 30 lines, 28 buses power system. The achieved results demonstrate the good efficiency of the DG using the proposed technique in different scenarios.

In this paper a generation expansion planning in restructured power systems is presented based on Modified Shuffled Frog Leaping (MSFL) for decoupling generation expansion planning from transmission expansion planning. Also for reducing complexity of the problem the benders decomposition is applied in this paper which divide the main problem in to two sub-problems as;maximize profits of each GENCO (PBGEP) and the security problem wants to satisfy security network constraints (SCGEP). Accordingly, calculate value of each GENCO's profit and total profit are considered as an optimization problem by proposed MSFL. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is applied over modified IEEE 30-bus system. The presented results demonstrate the efficiency the proposed technique.

A Firefly Algorithm (FA) based on Fuzzy PID controller is proposed in this paper to solve the Load Frequency Control (LFC) problem in a deregulated environment. In multi area electric power systems, if a large load is suddenly connected (or disconnected) to the system, or if a generating unit is suddenly disconnected by the protection equipment, there will be a long-term distortion in the power balance between that delivered by the turbines and that consumed by the loads. This imbalance is initially covered from the kinetic energy of rotating rotors of turbines, generators and motors and, as a result, the frequency in the system will change. This paper applied a fuzzy controller to solve this problem. The results of the proposed controller are compared with the classical fuzzy PID type controller and classical PID controller through ITAE and FD performance indices.
