Upper limb movements can be associated with activation of both sensorimotor cortices on functional MRI. The neurophysiological significance of the ipsilateral activation remains unclear. This study aimed to understand changes in ipsilateral motor cortical (iM1) activation during finger and shoulder movements. Fourteen healthy subjects were recruited and were asked to perform two experiments in left- and right-hand. Experiment 1 required the execution of hand clenching task, and experiment 2 consisted of shoulder forward flexion and elbow flexion. During motor execution, electroencephalography (EEG) and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and surface electromyography (sEMG) data were simultaneously recorded. EEG analysis was employed to assess event-related desynchronization (ERD), fNIRS to measure blood oxygen concentrations (oxygenated hemoglobin, HbO) in the brain, and sEMG to analyze the electrical activity of muscles during movement. ERD occurred clearly bilaterally during both shoulder and elbow movements compared to hand clenching. In all left-hand conditions, the HbO was significantly higher contralaterally than ipsilaterally (P < 0.05). Additionally, hand clenching exhibited significantly higher HbO and muscle electrical activity compared to shoulder and elbow movements (P < 0.05). Ipsilateral ERD and HbO during execution appear to reflect the excitability of proximal muscle and the level of muscle activation, respectively. This information may be valuable for comprehensively studying movement disorders, like those in post-stroke hemiplegic patients.

The tropospheric delay is a natural error source that occurs when objects, including radio signals, pass through the lower atmosphere at altitudes below 70 km. It needs to be carefully adjusted in numerous scientific research endeavors, e.g., remote sensing satellite-based Earth observation, aircraft precise positioning, and active radar surveillance system. Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) has become a popular tropospheric delay generating technique thanks to its facilitating approach, high precision estimation, and low-cost receiving devices. However, the existing GNSS data processing methodology allows for the estimation of zenith tropospheric delay by considering the physical characteristics of the troposphere and employing a simplified functional model. Therefore, the accuracy of ray-tracing tropospheric delay would be compromised when converting the zenith delay to the slant direction using a mapping function. This manuscript proposes a novel GNSS data processing strategy which can directly estimate the ray-tracing tropospheric delay. The hemispherical observable space is divided into several regions based on different azimuth and elevation angles, and GNSS satellites that belong to the same region are considered to experience the identical tropospheric delay due to the tropospheric physical characteristics. In this case, the ray tracing tropospheric delay can be calculated, and the corresponding estimation precision can be guaranteed, as an individual delay may incorporate observables from multiple satellites. The estimation precision could be further improved once additional GNSS receivers are involved in the data processing. Furthermore, this manuscript analyzes the impact of multiple GNSS receivers on ray-tracing tropospheric delays, considering that the signal paths may not be strictly identical for the receivers. Many managers and human resource departments transfer a person in an attempt to increase the performance of an organization or team. When we define performance as team efficiency, the performance is influenced by the density of team communications. However, whether or not the candidate transferee will actually increase the density of team communications is an unknown. In this paper, we propose a new approach that estimates whether or not a person who joins a team will improve the density of team communications based on an instant messaging system (IMS). In the proposed approach, we embed people in feature space using graph neural networks. In this embedding process, we do not use the content of text communications but utilize only communication graph architectural information that expresses who is talking to whom and how often. Additionally, the proposed approach does not require a questionnaire to indicate the density of team communication as in some previous studies. In the proposed approach, we develop a machine learning model classifying whether or not a transferee will improve the density of team communications. The model classifies transferees at an accuracy of 0.57 and precision of 0.58. Since this model does not use text contents from the IMS, it is valuable in actual business situations.
