New ultrashort pulsewidth measurement technology based on interference jitter and FPGA platform

Conventional ultrashort pulsewidth measurement technology is autocorrelation based on second-harmonic generation;however,nonlinear crystals and bulky components are required,which usually leads to the limited wavelength range and the difficult adjustment with free-space light ***,we proposed a compact all-fiber pulsewidth measurement technology based on the interference jitter(IJ)and field-programmable gate array(FPGA)platform,without requiring a nonlinear optical device(*** crystal/detector).Such a technology shows a wide measurement waveband from 1 to 2.15μm at least,a pulsewidth range from femtoseconds to 100 ps,and a small relative error of 0.15%-3.8%.In particular,a minimum pulse energy of 219 fj is experimentally detected with an average-power-peak-power product of 1.065×10^(-6)W^(2).The IJ-FPGA technology may offer a new route for miniaturized,user-friendly,and broadband pulsewidth measurement.

As an important branch of lidar technology, laser 3D imaging technology can be used to detect the outside of the target features, and in the military vehicles, aircraft to be practical application, has been the world’s military attention and recognized. Laser 3D imaging can detect and display the information such as the appearance and outline of the target object, and can be combined with image processing technology, GPS technology, and pattern recognition technology, to finally realize the position and external details of the target object. Compared with the traditional two-dimensional remote sensing and image photography technology, it can more truly and carefully reflect the characteristics of the target object, so the three-dimensional imaging lidar technology has great development prospects. This paper introduces the principle of 3D imaging lidar, working system and the key technology in the development process, and analyzed the development trend and characteristics of 3D imaging lidar, comparing the application of 3D imaging lidar technology at home and abroad, and finally puts forward the development trend of 3D imaging lidar on the airborne platform. © 2023 SPIE.

Blind restoration of turbulence degraded images based on two-channel alternating minimization algorithm

Due to the atmospheric turbulence and the system noise, images are blurred in the astronomical or space object detection. Wavefront aberrations and system noise make the capability of detecting objects decrease greatly. A two-channel image restoration method based on alternating minimization is proposed to restore the turbulence degraded images. The images at different times are regarded as separate channels, then the object and the point spread function(PSF) are reconstructed in an alternative way. There are two optimization parameters in the algorithm: the object and the PSF. Each optimization step is transformed into a constraint problem by variable splitting and processed by the augmented Lagrangian method. The results of simulation and actual experiment verify that the two-channel image restoration method can always converge rapidly within five iterations, and values of normalized root mean square error(NRMSE) remain below 3% after five iterations. Standard deviation data show that optimized alternating minimization(OAM) has strong stability and adaptability to different turbulent levels and noise levels. Restored images are approximate to the ideal imaging by visual assessment, even though atmospheric turbulence and systemnoise have a strong impact on imaging. Additionally, the method can remove noise effectively during the process of image restoration.

The data rate of high-performance airborne sensors is much higher than the wireless data transfer rate in many detection applications, so the onboard data storage systems are usually used to store the sensor data. There is a problem in the onboard data storage that the frequency of address jumps among incontinuous areas is very high due to the high data updating frequency of the FAT (File Allocation Table) and FDT (File Directory Table), which would significantly reduce the data storage speed. This is because the most widely used NAND (Not And) flash has a long response time when storing the data in the incontinuous areas. In order to solve the problem, a called medium fusion storage method, which uses multiple mediums time sharing to store the data of file areas and data region, is proposed in this study. The performance of the proposed method is tested on an actual data storage system of the airborne sensor. The experimental results show that medium fusion storage method significantly reduces the data updating frequency of the FAT and FDT in the data storage, and the response time is negligible compared with the actual data writing time.

Currently, as the resolution of sensors such as radar continues to improve, the signal bandwidth is rapidly increasing. There is a growing demand for higher sampling rates and data transmission rates in Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs). However, the parallel transmission commonly used in ADCs faces issues such as high crosstalk and difficulties in transmission synchronization. In response to this problem, this paper proposes a method for the design and implementation of a high-speed serial data transmission interface based on JESD204B. Specifically, it utilizes Xilinx's ZYNQ-7 series FPGA and ADC as the core components and presents clock synchronization design, ADC circuit design, and FPGA 204B IP design methods. Experimental testing was conducted using selected link parameters (LMFS=4222) as an example. The experimental results demonstrate that correct JESD204B interface data transmission for four channels was achieved at a data rate of 10 Gbps, thus validating the feasibility of the proposed high-speed transmission link design based on JESD204B in this paper.

We present a scheme for estimating the noise-equivalent temperature difference(NETD)of frequency upconversion detectors(UCDs)that detect mid-infrared(MIR)*** particular,we investigate the frequency upconversion of a periodically poled crystal based on lithium niobate,where an MIR conversion bandwidth of 220 nm can be achieved in a single-poled period by a special ***,for an MIR radiating target at a temperature of 95℃,the NETD of the device was estimated to be 56 mK with an exposure time of 1 ***,a direct measurement of the NETD was performed utilizing conventional methods,which resulted in 48 *** also compared the NETD of our UCD with commercially available direct MIR *** show that the limiting factor for further NETD reduction of our device is not primarily from the upconversion process and camera noise but from the limitations of the heat source and laser *** detectors have good temperature measurement performance and can be used for a variety of applications involving temperature object identification and material structure detection.

Knowledge distillation is a kind of model compression methods. It improves the performance of "student" networks by transferring the knowledge of "teacher" to "student". However, due to the huge gap between "teacher" and "student" in knowledge representation capabilities, directly minimizing the difference between them to transfer the knowledge will lead to the convergence issue. To this end, this paper proposes a novel framework of knowledge distillation. By sharing the weights of "teacher" and "student" in fully connected layers, we reduce the challenge of knowledge transfer. Furthermore, we propose a novel training strategy to improve the performance of low-bit quantization networks based on our distillation framework called distillation for low-bit quantization (DLBQ). The experimental results show that our methods can achieve significant improvement across different tasks. For instance, ResNet-20 gains 1.81% improvement on Cifar10 dataset. ResNet-56 shows 3.36% improvement on Cifar100 dataset and even exhibits 1.72% performance improvement than"teacher" network. Additionally, as for the improvements of quantization performance, ResNet-20 gain 1.25% improvement with ternary weights on Cifar10, and ResNet-110 manifects 3.22% improvement with binary weights on Cifar100 dataset. © 2021 IEEE

Infrared image processing is a conventional topic, but the hardware design and implementation for infrared image processing algorithms are full of challanges, especially for special purpose infrared detectors which have customized interfaces and protocols. Moreover, some customized infrared detectors only generate the infrared image with very poor quality. Therefore, in this paper, we design and implement an infrared image preprocessing system based on FPGA for customized infrared detectors. We propose a hardware architecture that includes the whole process from the input of detector, image processing, to final infrared video stream output and display. Our hardware architecture is able to adapt to different customized infrared detectors, which has the characteristics of real-time, low-power, dynamic parameter configuration, high processing efficiency and stable imaging effect. We have implemented it on Xilinx FPGA. The infrared imaging effect is significantly improved with limited FPGA resources (about only 1.6M LUT, 420 BRAM for all algorithm models on Xilinx zc706 evaluation board), the image processing speed can reach to 225Hz with the resolution of 320*256. Our preprocessing system can generate real-time video for display with 1920*1080@60Hz. © 2021 IEEE

In order to improve the recognition accuracy of small infrared targets in complex environment, a SyluInfrared dataset is built by taking multi-view infrared images with the Frock TiX600 infrared thermal imager. Seven image enhancement algorithms including image brightening, contrast adjustment, image blurring, image flipping and image scaling are designed to improve the image quality of small infrared targets. The YOLOv5 deep learning model is used to identify small infrared targets with multiple views to improve the recognition accuracy of small infrared targets. The experimental results show that the accuracy of multi-view infrared small target recognition model for YOLOv5 deep network is 97.7%, which is 6.6% higher than that of single-view infrared small target recognition model based on YOLOv5. The multi-view target recognition strategy significantly improves the infrared small target recognition performance.

In this paper, we focus on the problem of the infrared image detection. Aiming at the problem of the low contrast of the infrared images, an adaptive gamma transformation algorithm (AGT) is established to intelligently improve the contrast of the infrared images. Aiming at the problem of the weak edge information of the infrared images, an improved Sobel operator edge enhancement algorithm (ISOEE) is designed to enrich the edge features of the infrared images. In order to solve the problem that the traditional infrared image detection algorithm relies on expert experience, the fusion infrared images detection model AIE-Mask R-CNN based on Mask R-CNN, AGT algorithm and ISOEE algorithm is proposed. This fusion model can realize accurate and intelligent detection for the infrared images. The experimental results show that the fusion model AIE-Mask R-CNN improves the detection accuracy of the infrared images.
