Different with conventional reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS), simultaneous transmitting and reflecting RIS (STAR-RIS) can reflect and transmit the signals to the receiver. In this paper, to serve more ground users and increase the deployment flexibility, we investigate an unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with a STAR-RIS (STAR-RIS-UAV) aided wireless communications for multi-user networks. Energy splitting (ES) and mode switching (MS) protocols are considered to control the reflection and transmission coefficients of STAR-RIS elements. To maximize the sum rate of the STAR-RIS-UAV aided coordinated multipoint cellular system for multi-user networks, the corresponding beamforming vectors as well as transmitted and reflected coefficients matrices are optimized. Specifically, instead of adopting the alternating optimization, we design an iteration method to optimize all variables for both ES and MS protocols at the same time. Simulation results reveal that STAR-RIS-UAV aided wireless communication system has a much higher sum rate than the system with conventional RIS or without RIS. Furthermore, the proposed structure is more flexible than a fixed STAR-RIS and could greatly promote the sum rate. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Text line detection is an important technique in layout analysis. Due to the existence of non-text areas and the change of formula height, text line detection in mathematical documents has always been a huge challenge. In view of the complexity of the spatial structure of mathematical text lines, on the one hand, based on the existing attention mechanism, we proposed a composite network structure with Stage Spatial Attention, which has better feature extraction. In addition, a multi-scale feature fusion structure, called Feature Waterfall Fusion, adds features with low-resolution but stronger semantic information into the features with high-resolution but weaker semantic information indirectly and directly. Combining them results in SFNet. On the other hand, to explore the mathematical document text line detection, we constructed a dataset named Mathematical Document Text Line Dataset (MDTL-1850), which includes about 10,669 text line annotations in 1,850 images (1,280 for training and 570 for testing). We assembled SFNet and a learnable post-processing Progressive Scale Expansion (PSE) surpassed mainstream text detection networks such as PSENet and PANet in all metrics on MDTL-1850. Precision $(P)$ , Recall $(R)$ and $F_information$ , which improved by 1.0, 0.7 and 0.9 respectively. The experimental results strongly proved the superiority of SFNet network in detecting text line of mathematical documents.

Achieving high-quality (Q)-factor resonances in metasurfaces is essential for various applications, including nano-lasers, nonlinear optics, and quantum optics. In this work, we propose a high-Q metasurface using a topological strategy: constructing the metasurface by stacking two conjugated nanopillar arrays with different topological invariants. Our study shows that a topological edge state steadily appears at the interfaces of the nanopillars, and a sharp transmission resonance with a Q-factor of more than 1000 can be obtained. The sensing application of such high-Q topological metasurface is also demonstrated, whose figure of merit reaches approximately 145. The proposed strategy and underlying theory can open up new avenues to realize ultrasharp resonances, which can promote numerous potential applications, such as biosensing, optical modulation, and slow-light devices.

Knowledge distillation is a kind of model compression methods. It improves the performance of "student" networks by transferring the knowledge of "teacher" to "student". However, due to the huge gap between "teacher" and "student" in knowledge representation capabilities, directly minimizing the difference between them to transfer the knowledge will lead to the convergence issue. To this end, this paper proposes a novel framework of knowledge distillation. By sharing the weights of "teacher" and "student" in fully connected layers, we reduce the challenge of knowledge transfer. Furthermore, we propose a novel training strategy to improve the performance of low-bit quantization networks based on our distillation framework called distillation for low-bit quantization (DLBQ). The experimental results show that our methods can achieve significant improvement across different tasks. For instance, ResNet-20 gains 1.81% improvement on Cifar10 dataset. ResNet-56 shows 3.36% improvement on Cifar100 dataset and even exhibits 1.72% performance improvement than "teacher" network. Additionally, as for the improvements of quantization performance, ResNet-20 gain 1.25% improvement with ternary weights on Cifar10, and ResNet-110 manifects 3.22% improvement with binary weights on Cifar100 dataset.

Infrared image processing is a conventional topic, but the hardware design and implementation for infrared image processing algorithms are full of challanges, especially for special purpose infrared detectors which have customized interfaces and protocols. Moreover, some customized infrared detectors only generate the infrared image with very poor quality. Therefore, in this paper, we design and implement an infrared image preprocessing system based on FPGA for customized infrared detectors. We propose a hardware architecture that includes the whole process from the input of detector, image processing, to final infrared video stream output and display. Our hardware architecture is able to adapt to different customized infrared detectors, which has the characteristics of real-time, low-power, dynamic parameter configuration, high processing efficiency and stable imaging effect. We have implemented it on Xilinx FPGA. The infrared imaging effect is significantly improved with limited FPGA resources (about only 1.6M LUT, 420 BRAM for all algorithm models on Xilinx zc706 evaluation board), the image processing speed can reach to 225Hz with the resolution of 320*256. Our preprocessing system can generate real-time video for display with 1920*1080@60Hz.

Decision optimization in surface-to-air defense and coordinated weapon target assignment can improve the defense effect and the utilization rate of weapons. Considering the constraints of weapon capability, a multi-target optimization model is established to maximize the damage probability and minimize the weapon consumption cost. A dual population genetic algorithm improved by reinforcement learning is designed to solve this model. The chromosome exchange ratio is controlled by reinforcement learning to ensure population diversity. Experimental results verify the convergence speed and accuracy of the improved reinforcement genetic algorithm.

The key problem of ground-to-air defense is how to make accurate and effective firepower assignment decision for attacking targets. A multi-objective optimization model of ground-to-air defense firepower assignment is established with the aim of maximizing the damage probability and minimizing the weapon consumption, and non-cooperative game theory is used to solve the problem. A non-cooperative game model is established by mapping the two objectives to players, and weapon assignment schemes to strategy profiles. An improved tabu genetic algorithm based on Nash equilibrium is designed to get the assignment scheme. Experimental results show that the proposed method has better convergence and stability than the improved genetic algorithm based on tabu search for multi-objective optimization model.

In the traditional air target threat assessment, only quantitative threat degree is considered, and the target threat range assessment is missing. Aiming at the problem, a comprehensive dynamic threat assessment method is designed in this paper. This comprehensive method considers two terms of the target threat: threat degree and threat range. In terms of threat degree assessment, a dynamic Bayesian network (DBN) and a technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS) are fused. The multi-target fusion assessment method DBN-TOPSIS is proposed. This method maps the probability of multi-target threat level obtained by dynamic Bayesian network to TOPSIS evaluation matrix. This strategy solves the problem of multi-target threat ranking. In terms of threat range assessment, a grey prediction threat range assessment method GM(1,1) is obtained. This method solves the problem of small sample threat range assessment. The experimental results show that the multi-target fusion threat assessment method is reasonable, and the target threat range can directly reflect the change of target threat degree in airspace.

MIMO technology has been widely used in the telecommunication systems nowadays, and the space-time coding is a key part of MIMO technology. A good coding scheme can exploit the spatial diversity to correct the error which is generated in transmission, and increase the normalized transfer rate with low decoding complexity. On the Basis of the research on different Space-Time Block Codes, this essay proposes a new STBC, Diagonal Block Orthogonal Space-Time Block Code. Then we will compare it with other STBCs in the performance of bit error rate, transfer rate, decoding complexity and peek-to-average power ratio, the final result will prove the superiority of DBOAST.

electrochromic asymmetric supercapacitors (EASs) have attracted tremendous attention in recent years because of their potential for next-generation civilian portable and intelligent electronics. However, obtaining all-solid-state EASs with low self-discharge rates and outstanding environmental compatibility remains a crucial challenge. Herein, a high-performance all-solid-state EAS was fabricated based on MnO2 positive electrochromic electrode and WO3 negative electrochromic electrode. The obtained EAS exhibits high power/energy density (991.2 W kg-1/117 Wh kg-1 and 15840 W kg-1/44.3 Wh kg-1), superior electrochemical cycle-life (remains 98.4% of its initial capacity after 2000 continuous cycles even at 60 °C). Significantly, the fabricated EAS can still maintain a stable and reversible color change even in harsh environments where operating temperatures are constantly changing from -20 °C to 60 °C. In addition, the underlying self-discharge process and mechanisms of EASs were comprehensively demonstrated at various temperatures. At high working temperatures (such as 60 °C), the diffusion-controlled mechanism dominates in the initial discharging process, while at lower operating temperatures (such as -20 °C) both mechanisms nearly contribute equally. Impressively, the EAS presents a small voltage loss (all below 18%) within 10 h when operated at extreme temperatures. This work can enlighten and promote the development of low self-discharge electrochromic devices at widely operating temperatures for efficient energy storage. © 2022, The Authors.
