M³FuNet: An Unsupervised Multivariate Feature Fusion Network for Hyperspectral Image Classification

Hyperspectral image (HSI) spectral-spatial joint feature (FE) extraction methods generally suffer from low feature retention and weak spatial-spectral dependence, which will lead to single-class feature confrontation (SCFC). To solve this problem, an unsupervised multivariate feature fusion network (M3FuNet) is developed in this article. In M3FuNet, multiscale supervector matrix correction (MSMC) and multiscale random convolution dispersion (MRCD) are used as the spectral and spatial feature extraction method, and the feature retention of spectral and spatial features is improved to achieve feature calibration by feature fusion and decision fusion, called 'multivariate feature fusion.' The MSMC is employed to correct the supervector matrix to reduce the intraclass variance in superpixel homogeneous regions and overcome the phenomenon of supervector block drift (SvBD). The MRCD uses random convolution and Gaussian smoothing to extract deep spatial features. Because of the similar feature representation ability of the MSMC and MRCD, the obtained spectral-spatial joint features have high feature retention and strong spectral-spatial dependence. Finally, this M3FuNet is used for realizing the classification of HSI. Three common HSI datasets are used to validate the effectiveness of the M3FuNet. The experiment results show that the M3FuNet has a superior performance compared with several state-of-the-art (SOTA) HSI classification methods. Video encryption is crucial for ensuring the confidentiality of sensitive video data, especially in finance, healthcare, and government industries. With the increasing use of video conferencing and online video streaming, there is a growing need to protect video data from unauthorized access and hacking attempts. Encryption prevents sensitive information from being exposed during transmission and unauthorized access to stored video data. This paper introduces and details a novel quantum encryption algorithm designed for secure video communication, combining chaotic logistic-sine maps and quantum techniques. The proposed cryptosystem recruits the security benefits of chaos theory and quantum encryption’s efficiency to ensure high security for video communications. Specifically, it employs a logistic-sine map to generate secret chaotic keys that encrypt video data, while quantum properties ensure the secure transmission of the encrypted video. The cryptosystem has been implemented and rigorously evaluated using various performance metrics to determine its security and efficiency. The results demonstrate that the introduced cryptosystem provides strong encryption and robust defense against various multimedia attacks, outperforming existing and traditional encryption methods in terms of encryption/decryption speed and all evaluated security parameters. Consequently, this cryptosystem presents a promising and efficient security solution for multimedia streaming across various applications, including military communications, online entertainment, and healthcare. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

In this paper, the sea surface wind speed (SSWS) retrieval accuracy for HaiYang-2C (HY-2C) passive microwave radiometer under the severe weather such as typhoon is evaluated. Based on the observation data of HY-2C, this study explores the influence of brightness temperature (TB) observed by microwave radiometer on sea surface wind speed retrieval under typhoon conditions. In the case of typhoon precipitation, the attenuation of the atmosphere to the high frequency channel is stronger, which makes the sea surface information observed by the microwave radiometer very weak. Therefore, we mainly select the TB of horizontal polarization and vertical polarization observation of 6.9GHz and 10.7GHz channels to carry out the study of typhoon wind speed retrieval. This paper constructs a matching data set based on the TB observed by HY-2C passive microwave radiometer, HY-2C L2B wind product and H*wind reanalysis wind field data in October and November 2020. The maximum differences of spatial and temporal were set as 25km and 30minutes, respectively. Then, the typhoon wind speed retrieval model based on LightGBM is established. We use the data of October 2020 to train the model and the data of November 2020 to test model performance. Comparing with the H*wind reanalysis wind field data, the bias and root-mean-square error of retrieved wind speed are 0.15m/s and 1.26m/s, respectively. In addition, the correlation coefficient is 0.90, indicating that the retrieved wind speed has a good consistency with H*wind data.

Animals can navigate robustly through large unknown environments, utilizing inaccurate sensor and egomotion cues. Inspired by the mechanism of the human visual system, this paper presents a biological simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) system based on a monocular vision sensor to perform navigation tasks in complex environments. Specifically, our contributions are two folds: an improved monocular visual odometry with a scale recovery algorithm to calibrate the estimated robot pose, and a bionic vision model based on image enhancement algorithm and feature extraction approach to detect closed-loop. Experiments on public datasets demonstrate that our proposed method performs competitively in illumination-varying scenarios indoors and outdoors, which achieve a trade-off to maintain performances in terms of accuracy, execution time, and robustness. © 2023 IEEE.

Power system load forecasting is the foundation of power system operation and planning. Meteorological factors such as temperature, humidity, and wind speed have a significant impact on the load of the power system. In recent years, with the popularity of data-driven methods, power system load forecasting has developed. However, in existing research on power systems, the study of relationships between variables is predominantly based on correlation, with little mention of the concept of causality. In this paper, an adaptive time window strategy is proposed to identify time periods where causal relationships may change. Then, the Time Causal Discovery Framework (TCDF) was used at each time window to explore the causal relationship between electricity load and climate data. Finally, compared with the traditional correlation-based analysis method, the experiment shows that our method not only explains the causal relationship between power load and climate, but also effectively improves the prediction performance. © 2024 The Authors.

Collective vigilance has commonly been considered as one of the possible hypotheses explaining swarming in (social) animals. According to this theory, by engaging in cooperative monitoring of the environment, groups of social animals can enhance threat detection and overall survival. At the same time, this enables them to spend more time foraging and engaging in social activities. In this study, we report a behavior observed in soldier crabs challenging some aspects of collective vigilance. laboratory experiments were performed at three swarm density levels (low, medium, and high) to check whether crabs are able to collectively adapt their motion to the changing environment (a moving light). Results show that only medium densities allow dynamic realignment with the moving light, whereas no collective motion is shown at low densities, and changes do not occur at high density. Experimental results were qualitatively backed by ecological observations, in which we show that above a specific threshold of swarm sizes, individuals fail to detect external threats (such as a passing bus) and/or do not change behavior in response to this environmental stimulus. In general, our results hint at the fact that the ability of swarms to collectively adapt to external conditions depends on swarm density. Further, we show that the ability to self-organize has a non-linear relationship with swarm density. Our study highlights the importance of considering complex systems from a closer microscopic perspective based on the ability of individuals to detect changes in the surrounding environment along with the interactions among them.

In this article, the artificial neural networks (ANNs) are combined with the characteristic basis function method (CBFM) to fast predict the electromagnetic scattering from finite periodic structures. The amplitude and the phase of the expansion coefficients of the characteristic basis functions (CBFs) are predicted by two different ANNs. Then, the predicted expansion coefficients are used to calculated the radar cross sections (RCSs) of the finite periodic structures. Numerical results are given to show the performance of the ANN-assisted CBFM. © 2024 IEEE.
