The density of different gaseous fuels can be increased for storage and transportation purposes trough the liquefaction process. The gases are converted to cryogenic fluids if liquefied by reducing their temperatures (e.g. for liquid hydrogen, LH2, and liquefied natural gas, LNG). Therefore, these cryogenic fuels must be stored in extremely well insulated tanks (double walled type with evacuated insulation). The ignition of an accidental fire in the vicinity of the cryogenic tank might cause the loss of integrity of the vessel. This event might lead to the catastrophic rupture of the vessel and provoke a major accident with many severe consequences. For this reason, the estimation of a potential time to failure (TTF) of the container in the worst-case scenario is critical. In this study, an analytical model was developed based on well-known thermodynamic equations, to estimate the heat transfer between the cryogenic tank and the surrounding fire in the worst-case scenario. The thermal conductivity of the double walled tank insultation is one of the most complex and critical parameters to evaluate. Different uncertainties regarding the vessel insulation were highlighted in the manuscripts. The outcomes of this model were validated against experimental results. Additional experimental tests are necessary to thoroughly validate the model and understand the behavior of the cryogenic vessels when exposed to a fire. This type of tests will be conducted for LH2 during the Norwegian project SH2IFT. © ESREL 2021. Published by Research Publishing, Singapore.

The Hydration of Ternary Blended Cements with Calcined Coal Gangue and Limestone

Kaolinite-type coal gangue (CG) originating from coal mining has demonstrated promising performance as a novel kind of supplementary cementitious material (SCM) after calcination. However, its synergistic use with limestone hasn’t yet been thoroughly investigated. In this paper, the hydration properties of ternary cements made of CCG and limestone were investigated, taking into account the effect of the kaolinite content in the CG. First, CCG was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), followed by evaluation of the pozzolanic reaction by the bound water test. Then, the ternary systems were designed where 15%, 30%, 45% and 60% of the cement by mass was replaced by CCG and limestone with a fixed mass ratio of 2:1. The compressive strength of the mortars up to 28 days was measured and the strength efficiency combined with CO2 emission was also compared. Finally, the involved hydration mechanism was revealed using isothermal calorimetry, quantitative XRD, thermogravimetric (TG) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP). The results showed that kaolinite in CG was transformed into metakaolin as calcined at 800 °C, which exhibited high pozzolanic activity, especially for the initial CG with higher kaolinite content. The use of CCG with more than 30% kaolinite in CG allows CCG and limestone to replace up to 30% by mass of cement while maintaining the compressive strength of cement from 7 days onwards. Microstructural studies revealed that the compressive strength of these ternary blended cements at 3 and 7 days was mainly dominated by cement hydration and the pozzolanic reaction between CCG and portlandite (CH), respectively. In this paper, a long short-term human motion prediction method based on long short-term memory (LSTM) is proposed in human-robot co-carrying task. Long-term human motion prediction is utilized to predict the human motion target in the task. If robot is aware of the target, robot will lead the task to reduce human's control efforts. If robot does not know the human motion target, human will lead the task towards the target. Short-term human motion prediction is involved in hybrid visual-force controller in dynamical level to reduce the motion delay in the process. Finally, the method is verified by experiment of human-robot co-carrying task.

Migration and risk assessment of heavy metals from swine manure in an organic fertilizer - soil - ryegrass - rex rabbit system: Based on field trials

Organic fertilizers were produced through maggot-composting (MC) and natural composting (NC) using swine manure, and the migration, contamination, and health risks of heavy metals (Zn, Cu, Cd, Cr, Pb) were evaluated within a fertilizer - soil - ryegrass - Rex rabbit system. After 70 days of treatment, heavy metals were concentrated by 43.23 % to 100 % in MC and 52.82 % to 90.91 % in NC, higher concentration rate was observed in Cr and Cu in NC. The residual fractions of Zn, Cu, CD, Cr, Pb increased by 0.4 % to 30.2 % in MC, and 3.4 % to 29.7 % in NC. More stable forms of Zn, Cr, and Cu were observed in NC, whereas Pb showed greater stability in MC. Post-fertilization, statistically higher levels of the five elements were obtained in NC treatment. Even their concentrations decreased in the soil, however, high initial background levels caused Cr and Zn to exceed standard thresholds in both treatments. Despite this, the geo-accumulation index (Igeo) and pollution load index (PLI) below 1, did not indicate a pollution risk. Cr levels exceeded feed limits in both roots and leaves, although the low BCF value in roots suggested limited risk. In rabbits fed with 48 % ryegrass, significantly higher levels of Zn and Cu were detected in NC, with elevated Cr levels posed moderate to severe pollution risks in two treatments. Health risk assessments, including non-carcinogenic (HQf) and carcinogenic risks (CRf), revealed Cr was the most cautionary element for both children and adults, even no significant carcinogenic risk exist. These findings provide key insights into mitigating heavy metal contamination from animal waste to rabbit meat. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

With the development of 5G and Internet of Things, more and more intelligent agricultural products are put into use, such as solar insecticidal lamps, agricultural robots, intelligent irrigation systems. The efficient operation of these intelligent products deployed in farmland depends on the improvement of ridge information. However, in the existing map system, the gap of ridge information has caused great difficulties in laying these nodes. Because it will be an extremely arduous task to use the traditional method to extract the aerial ridge map, so this paper uses the image processing method to extract the ridge information. To solve this problem, We use the edge detection method to extract the ridge. The main steps include image enhancement, image smoothing and edge detection. In this paper, many experiments have been carried out on these three parts, and the best method has been selected. However, because the traditional edge detection operator can not extract the ridge with high precision, this paper optimizes the edge detection results step by step, so as to obtain an algorithm more suitable for ridge extraction and improve the extraction accuracy. At the same time, in view of the large area of cultivated land, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) can not get all the images of cultivated land in the case of improving the definition, so it is necessary to stitch the images. Therefore, this paper mainly expounds the basic principles of image stitching based on feature points and image stitching based on regions, and selects an algorithm suitable for stitching farmland images through experimental verification. Finally, through the research of this paper, the vacancy of ridge information can be made up to some extent, and the workload of manual measurement can be reduced.

Biochar-derived dissolved black carbon (DBC) plays a crucial role in the migration and bioavailability of iron in water. However, the properties of DBC releasing under diverse pyrolysis conditions and dissolving processes have not been systematically studied. Here, the compositions of DBC released from biochar through redox processes dominated by bacteria and light were thoroughly studied. It was found that straw biochar produced at higher temperatures would yield more oxygen-containing functional groups and aromatic substances in DBC under light condition. Then the impacts of DBC on pyrite dissolution and microalgae growth were also investigated. The complexing Fe3+ was proved to play a predominant role in the dissolution of ferrous mineral in DBC solution. Due to complexing between iron ion and DBC, the amount of dissolved Fe in aquatic water may rise as a result of elevated number of aromatic components with oxygen containing groups and low molecular weight generated under light conditions. Fe-DBC complexations in solution significantly promoted microalga growth, which might be attributed to the stimulating effect of dissolved Fe on the chlorophyll synthesis. The results of study will deepen our familiarity with the behavior and ultimate destiny of DBC released into an iron-rich environment under redox conditions. © 2023, The Authors. Reduction of Humid Vocs Produced in Cooking Procedure Through Adsorption on Mo-Mel Zeolites

Based on the increasing public awareness of the pollution and hazard of cooking oil fume, MEL-type zeolites with different composition, including Si-MEL (all-silicon framework), Al-MEL (Si-Al framework) and Mo-MEL (Si-Mo framework), were synthesized through a self-developed recrystallization methodology and were applied into the reduction of cooking VOCs via adsorption process. Mo species is proved to exist both in the MEL zeolitic framework and MoO3 clusters through XRD, IR, N2 adsorption-desorption, SEM and UV-vis characterization. Water vapor adsorption isotherms and 29Si NMR results indicate Mo-MEL owns superior hydrophobicity because of its high level of atoms coordination and lack of silanols. Toluene-TPD and dynamic adsorption results reveal the enhanced affinity to VOCs molecular on Mo-MEL, superior than Si-MEL and Al-MEL. The Mo-contained sample shows a considerable VOCs capacity of 91.29 mg/g (RH=0%) and 82.75 mg/g (RH-20%), suggesting its application potential for the adsorption and enrich of cooking VOCs, especially in humid condition. © 2022, The Authors. Recycled lithium battery nanomaterials as a sustainable nanofertilizer: Reduced peanut allergenicity and improved seed quality

The rapidly increasing amount of end-of-life lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries has raised significant environmental concerns. This study offers a strategy for a paradigm shift by transforming this growing waste into a valuable resource by recycling discarded LiFePO4 batteries and safely integrating the materials into sustainable agriculture. We used five types of LiFePO4 (10, 50 mg kg−1) applied to soil planted with peanuts in a full-culture experiment. Our results show that addition of −1 of recycled nano-LiFePO4 (rn-LiFePO4) has a multifaceted positive impact on peanut because of sustainable release of nutrients and nano-specific effects, not only enhancing photosynthesis and root growth but also increasing yield by 22 %–34 % while simultaneously elevating seed nutritional quality. Moreover, a remarkable reduction (up to 99.78 % at 10 mg kg−1 rn-LiFePO4) in the expression of allergen genes was evident following exposure to LiFePO4, which showed a significant negative correlation with Fe content in the seeds. The decreased peanut allergen gene expression was mediated by a downregulation of metabolites associated with protein digestion and absorption. Furthermore, rhizosphere soil immune system enhancement may indirectly enhance immune responses to peanut allergy. This study suggests the significant potential of nanoscale LiFePO4 recycled from Li battery, including enhancing crop yield quality and mitigating peanut allergy concerns while simultaneously addressing a growing waste stream of concern. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

Although severe ozone (O₃) pollution has been frequently observed during summer over Jinan city in northern China, which underscores the necessity of mitigating O₃ pollution, the key formation processes and prominent sources of O₃ pollution episode remain poorly characterized. In this study, the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF)-Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) modeling system was employed to investigate the formation mechanism of O₃ pollution during summer in Jinan. In addition, the Integrated Source Apportionment Method (ISAM) was subsequently applied to determine the major VOCs contributors to elevated O₃ levels. During O₃ pollution episodes, increased O₃ concentrations generated by gas-chemistry at high altitudes were transported to the ground through vertical transport, exacerbating surface-level O₃ pollution caused by photochemical reactions during daytime. The declined height of the planetary boundary layer (PBLH) and vertical mixing, which form O₃-rich residual layers, were identified as the key drivers of the O₃ accumulation and enhancement near the surface during nighttime. Furthermore, ISAM results indicate that terminal olefin carbon bonds (OLE), internal olefin carbon bonds (IOLE), and ethene (ETH) playing essential roles in O₃ formation, collectively contributing up to 60 %. This implicates great importance of vehicle exhaust and the use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and natural gas (NG) over Jinan city. Our findings offer possible explanations for O₃ pollution episode and provide a quantitative understanding of O₃ source apportionment, guiding the control strategy of VOCs-oriented on O₃ mitigation. © 2025 Turkish National Committee for Air Pollution Research and Control
