Lip Reading AI is a discipline that is rapidly changing and has numerous applications in security, accessibility and human-computer interaction. This paper proposes a model which combines Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to capture spatial capabilities, Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks to examine temporal dependencies, and an adaptive interest mechanism. Meticulous preprocessing of the MIRACL VC-l dataset addressing challenges including one of a kind lip moves and occlusions accompanied with the aid of transitioning this study effortlessly to LRS2 dataset to complement lexemic versatility is one of its key function. The effects verify its robustness throughout unique datasets with superior overall performance towards cutting-edge techniques. Ablation checks suggest the crucial significance of every element in phrases of improving lip analyzing accuracy. Our proposed model version additionally suggests flexibility in restricted and naturalistic language situations. © 2024 IEEE.

Adaptive fractional-order edge-stopping function-based active contour model for image segmentation

The active contour model has been a widely used method in image segmentation that remains challenging due to the noise and intensity inhomogeneity. In this paper, an adaptive fractional-order edge-stopping function-based active contour model is proposed. To better preserve the weak texture information in the image, a new adaptive fractional order matrix, defined using the gradient information of the image, is first constructed. Then, a new edge-stopping function based on adaptive fractional differentiation is utilized to improve the robustness of the proposed model to noise. Finally, the energy fitting term based on regional variance can achieve an arbitrary selection of the initial position of the active contour curve. Experimental results on grayscale and natural images in PASCAL VOC2012 demonstrate that this method can effectively segment images with noise and intensity inhomogeneity. Compared to the optimal competitive active contour model WHRSPF, the proposed method shows an average increase of 7.9% and 4.5% in IOU and DSC, respectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

A sEMG-based Muscle-Compensation-Error Elimination Module for the Home-Based Bilateral Rehabilitation System

Home-based bilateral training using exoskeletons is considered an effective rehabilitation method to restore the normal motion function of stroke patients' limbs. However, due to the imbalance of limb muscle strength, muscle compensation of the functional upper limb will cause surface electromyography (sEMG) signal fluctuations. The signal fluctuations will lead to prediction errors, thereby affecting the effect of bilateral rehabilitation. To eliminate the prediction error caused by muscle compensation, a novel rehabilitation module for a home-based bilateral rehabilitation robotic system is proposed in this letter. This sEMG-driven rehabilitation module, which incorporates the channel splitting and transferable frequency domain, first identifies the type of muscle compensation mixed in continuous movement and then eliminates the error caused by muscle compensation. Online experiments were conducted to evaluate the system in tracking accuracy and muscle-compensation-error elimination, which showed the proposed rehabilitation system with rehabilitation module achieved fast adaption to the patient's compensatory movement as well as improving the effect of robot-assisted bilateral training. © 2025 IEEE.

Obtaining electroactive microbes capable of efficient extracellular electron transfer is a large undertaking for the scalability of bio-electrochemical ***,researchers need to pursue the co-modification of multiple genes rather than expecting that modification of a single gene would make a significant contribution to improving extracellular electron transfer *** editing has enabled highly-efficient gene deactivation in model electroactive microbe Shewanella oneidensis *** multiplexed application of base editing is still limited by its low throughput procedure,we thus here develop a rapid and efficient multiplex base editing system in *** approaches to express multiple gRNAs were assessed firstly,and transcription of each gRNA cassette into a monocistronic unit was validated as a more favorable option than transcription of multiple gRNAs into a polycistronic ***,a smart scheme was designed to deliver one-pot assembly of multiple gRNAs.3,5,and 8 genes were deactivated using this system with editing efficiency of 83.3%,100%and 12.5%,*** offer some nonrepetitive components as alternatives genetic parts of sgRNA cassette,different promoters,handles,and terminators were *** multiplex base editing tool was finally adopted to simultaneously deactivate eight genes that were identified as significantly downregulated targets in transcriptome analysis of riboflavin-overproducing strain and control *** maximum power density of the multiplex engineered strain HRF(8BE)in microbial fuel cells was 1108.1 mW/m2,which was 21.67 times higher than that of the wild-type *** highly efficient multiplexed base editing tool elevates our ability of genome manipulation and combinatorial engineering in Shewanella,and may provide valuable insights in fundamental and applied research of extracellular electron transfer.

The utilization of sustainable resources provides a path to relieving the problem of dependence on fossil resources. In this context, biomass materials have become a feasible substitute for petroleum-based materials. The development of biomass materials is booming and advanced biomass materials with various functional properties are used in many fields including medicine, electrochemistry, and environmental science. In recent years, ionic liquids have been widely used in biomass pretreatments and processing owing to their “green” characteristics and adjustable physicochemical properties. Thus, the effects of ionic liquids in biomass materials generation require further study. This review summarizes the multiple roles of ionic liquids in promoting the synthesis and application of advanced biomass materials as solvents, structural components, and modifiers. Finally, a prospective approach is proposed for producing additional higher-quality possibilities between ionic liquids and advanced biomass materials.

Unraveling structure and performance of protein a ligands at liquid–solid interfaces: A multi-techniques analysis

Oriented ligand immobilization is one of the most effective strategies used in the design and construction of a high-capacity protein A chromatography. In this work, cysteine was introduced as anchoring sites by substituting a specific residue on Helix Ⅰ, Ⅱ, and at C-terminus of antibody binding domain Z from protein A, respectively, to investigate structural evolution and binding behavior of protein A ligands at liquid-solid interfaces. Among the three affinity dextran-coated Fe_(3)O_(4) magnetic nanoparticles(Fe_(3)O_(4)@Dx MNPs), affinity MNPs with the immobilized ligand via N11C on Helix Ⅰ(Fe_(3)O_(4)@Dx-Z_(1) MNPs) had the highest helical content, and MNPs with the immobilized ligand via G29C on Helix Ⅱ(Fe_(3)O_(4)@Dx-Z_(2) MNPs) had the lowest helical content at the same pHs. It was attributed to less electrostatic attraction of ligand to negatively charged surface on Fe_(3)O_(4)@Dx-Z_(1) MNPs because of less positive charged residues on Helix Ⅰ(K6) than Helix Ⅱ(R27/K35). Among the three affinity MNPs, moreover, the highest affinity to immunoglobulin G(IgG) binding was observed on Fe_(3)O_(4)@Dx-Z_(1) MNPs in isothermal titration calorimetry measurement, further validating greater structural integrity of the ligand on Fe_(3)O_(4)@Dx-Z_(1) MNPs. Finally,the study of IgG binding on MNPs and 96-well plates showed that anchoring sites for ligand immobilization had distinct influences on IgG binding and IgG-mediated antigen binding. This work illustrated that anchoring sites of the ligands had a striking significance for the molecular structure of the ligand at liquid-solid interfaces and raised an important implication for the design and optimization of protein A chromatography and protein A-based immunoassay analysis.

The Bloch band theory and Brillouin zone(BZ)that characterize wave-like behaviors in periodic mediums are two cornerstones of contemporary physics,ranging from condensed matter to topological *** theoretical breakthrough revealed that,under the projective symmetry algebra enforced by artificial gauge fields,the usual two-dimensional(2D)BZ(orientable Brillouin two-torus)can be fundamentally modified to a non-orientable Brillouin Klein bottle with radically distinct manifold ***,the physical consequence of artificial gauge fields on the more general three-dimensional(3D)BZ(orientable Brillouin three-torus)was so far ***,we theoretically discovered and experimentally observed that the fundamental domain and topology of the usual 3D BZ can be reduced to a non-orientable Brillouin Klein space or an orientable Brillouin half-turn space in a 3D acoustic crystal with artificial gauge *** experimentally identify peculiar 3D momentum-space non-symmorphic screw rotation and glide reflection symmetries in the measured band ***,we experimentally demonstrate a novel stacked weak Klein bottle insulator featuring a nonzero Z2 topological invariant and self-collimated topological surface states at two opposite surfaces related by a nonlocal twist,radically distinct from all previous 3D topological *** discovery not only fundamentally modifies the fundamental domain and topology of 3D BZ,but also opens the door towards a wealth of previously overlooked momentum-space multidimensional manifold topologies and novel gaugesymmetry-enriched topological physics and robust acoustic wave manipulations beyond the existing paradigms.
