Two efficient beamforming methods for hybrid IRS-aided AF relay wireless networks

Owing to its ability to mitigate the double-fading effect by amplifying the reflected signal, the active intelligent reflecting surface(IRS) has garnered significant attention. In this paper, an amplify-and-forward(AF) relay network assisted by a hybrid IRS consisting of both passive and active units is developed. A signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) maximization problem is formulated, where the AF relay beamforming matrix and the hybrid IRS reflecting coefficient matrices for two-time slots need to be optimized. To address the SNR maximization problem, this paper proposes both a high-performance(HP) method and a low-complexity(LC) method. The HP method is based on the semidefinite relaxation and fractional programming(SDR-FP)algorithm, with rank-1 solutions obtained through Gaussian randomization. For the LC method, the amplification coefficient of each active IRS element is assumed to be equal. The SNR maximization problem is then addressed using the whitening filter,generalized power iteration, and generalized Rayleigh-Ritz(WF-GPI-GRR) approach. Simulation results show that compared with the benchmarks, such as the passive IRS-aided AF relay network, the proposed HP-SDR-FP and WF-GPI-GRR methods achieve significant rate improvements. In particular, the HP-SDR-FP and WF-GPI-GRR methods yield more than a 135.0%rate gain when the transmit power Ps of the source is 10 dBm. Furthermore, the proposed HP-SDR-FP method outperforms the WF-GPI-GRR method in terms of rate performance.

The recycling of spent batteries has become increasingly important owing to their wide applications,abundant raw material supply,and sustainable *** with the degraded cathode,spent anode graphite often has a relatively intact structure with few defects after long ***,most spent graphite is simply burned or discarded due to its limited value and inferior performance on using conventional recycling methods that are complex,have low efficiency,and fail in performance ***,we propose a fast,efficient,and“intelligent”strategy to regenerate and upcycle spent graphite based on defect‐driven targeted *** Sn as a nanoscale healant,we used rapid heating(~50 ms)to enable dynamic Sn droplets to automatically nucleate around the surface defects on the graphite upon cooling owing to strong binding to the defects(~5.84 eV/atom),thus simultaneously achieving Sn dispersion and graphite *** a result,the regenerated graphite showed enhanced capacity and cycle stability(458.9 mAh g^(−1) at 0.2 A g^(−1) after 100 cycles),superior to those of commercial *** from the self‐adaption of Sn dispersion,spent graphite with different degrees of defects can be regenerated to similar structures and *** analysis indicates that targeted regeneration and upcycling have significantly lower energy consumption(~99%reduction)and near‐zero CO_(2) emission,and yield much higher profit than hydrometallurgy,which opens a new avenue for direct upcycling of spend graphite in an efficient,green,and profitable manner for sustainable battery manufacture.

The memristive Computing-in-Memory (CIM) sys-Tem can efficiently accelerate matrix-vector multiplication (MVM) operations through in-situ computing. The data layout has a significant impact on the communication performance of CIM systems. Existing software-level communication opti-mizations aim to reduce communication distance by carefully designing static data layouts, while wear-leveling (WL) and error mitigation methods use dynamic scheduling to enhance system reliability, resulting in randomized data layouts and increased communication overhead. Besides, existing CIM compilers di-rectly map data to physical crossbars and generate instructions, which causes inconvenience for dynamic scheduling. To address these challenges of balancing communication performance and reliability while coordinating existing CIM compilers and dy-namic scheduling, we propose a disorder-resistant computation translation layer (DRCTL), which improves system lifetime and communication performance through co-optimization of data layout and dynamic scheduling. It consists of three parts: (1) We propose an address conversion method for dynamic scheduling, which updates the addresses in the instruction stream after dynamic scheduling, thereby avoiding recompilation. (2) Dynamic scheduling strategy for reliability improvement. We propose a hierarchical wear-leveling (HWL) strategy, which reduces communication by increasing scheduling granularity. (3) Communication optimization for dynamic scheduling. We propose data layout-Aware selective remapping (LASR), which helps dynamic scheduling methods improve communication lo-cality and reduce latency by exploiting data dependencies. The experiments demonstrate that HWL extends lifetime by 100.3-205.9 x compared to not using WL. Even with a slight lifetime decrease compared to the state-of-The-Art WL (TIWL), it still supports continuous neural network training for 7 years. As an essential component of the earth system, precipitation plays a crucial role in the regional and global water cycle. This paper uses observations from the Fengyun-3D microwave humidity and temperature sounder and microwave radiation imager, as well as Integrated Multi-satellite Retrievals for GPM (IMERG), to establish a precipitation retrieval model based on the light gradient boosting model (LGBM). Using IMERG as the comparison data, the performance of precipitation identification with the LGBM-based precipitation retrieval model is as follows: accuracy is 0.9302, probability of detection is 0.7683, false alarm rate is 0.3529, and critical success index is 0.5414. The performance of precipitation estimation is also evaluated, with a correlation coefficient of 0.7536, a mean absolute error of 0.9119, and a mean squared error of 3.9506. In summary, this study achieves good performance in precipitation identification and estimation by the LGBM model. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, the sea surface wind speed (SSWS) retrieval accuracy for HaiYang-2C (HY-2C) passive microwave radiometer under the severe weather such as typhoon is evaluated. Based on the observation data of HY-2C, this study explores the influence of brightness temperature (TB) observed by microwave radiometer on sea surface wind speed retrieval under typhoon conditions. In the case of typhoon precipitation, the attenuation of the atmosphere to the high frequency channel is stronger, which makes the sea surface information observed by the microwave radiometer very weak. Therefore, we mainly select the TB of horizontal polarization and vertical polarization observation of 6.9GHz and 10.7GHz channels to carry out the study of typhoon wind speed retrieval. This paper constructs a matching data set based on the TB observed by HY-2C passive microwave radiometer, HY-2C L2B wind product and H*wind reanalysis wind field data in October and November 2020. The maximum differences of spatial and temporal were set as 25km and 30minutes, respectively. Then, the typhoon wind speed retrieval model based on LightGBM is established. We use the data of October 2020 to train the model and the data of November 2020 to test model performance. Comparing with the H*wind reanalysis wind field data, the bias and root-mean-square error of retrieved wind speed are 0.15m/s and 1.26m/s, respectively. In addition, the correlation coefficient is 0.90, indicating that the retrieved wind speed has a good consistency with H*wind data. © 2024 IEEE.

AFuNet: an attention-based fusion network to classify texts in a resource-constrained language

In the era of widespread Internet use and extensive social media interaction, the digital realm is accumulating vast amounts of unstructured text data. This unstructured data often contain undesirable information, necessitating time-consuming manual classification efforts. An intelligent text classification system capable of automatically categorizing digitized texts based on semantic meaning is crucial. However, this task is particularly challenging for low-resource languages like Bengali due to a shortage of annotated corpora, issues with out-of-vocabulary words, lack of domain-specific hyperparameter tuning, limited ability to extract generalized text features, and class imbalances within the corpus. AFuNet: an attention-based fusion network to classify texts in a resource-constrained language. AFuNet undergoes a comprehensive four-phase experimental process, including baseline model evaluation and hyperparameter tuning, late fusion and model selection, attention-based early fusion and model identification, and an ablation study with impact analysis. Fine-tuned based on five Bengali text classification corpora, AFuNet achieves impressive accuracies: 96.60 ± 0.2 (BTCC11), 85.37 ± 0.2 (OSBC), 97.35 ± 0.2 (BARD), 93.74 ± 0.2 (IndicNLP), and 96.51 ± 0.2 (ProthomAlo). In comparison with previous state-of-the-art models on these corpora, AFuNet demonstrates significant accuracy improvements ranging from 0.54% to 4.49%, showcasing its effectiveness in advancing text classification capabilities for the Bengali language. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

BEDiff: denoising diffusion probabilistic models for building extraction

Accurately identifying building distribution from remote sensing images with complex background information is challenging. The emergence of diffusion models has prompted the innovative idea of employing the reverse denoising process to distill building distribution from these complex backgrounds. Building on this concept, we propose a novel framework, building extraction diffusion model(BEDiff), which meticulously refines the extraction of building footprints from remote sensing images in a stepwise fashion. Our approach begins with the design of booster guidance, a mechanism that extracts structural and semantic features from remote sensing images to serve as priors, thereby providing targeted guidance for the diffusion process. Additionally, we introduce a cross-feature fusion module(CFM) that bridges the semantic gap between different types of features, facilitating the integration of the attributes extracted by booster guidance into the diffusion process more effectively. Our proposed BEDiff marks the first application of diffusion models to the task of building extraction. Empirical evidence from extensive experiments on the Beijing building dataset demonstrates the superior performance of BEDiff, affirming its effectiveness and potential for enhancing the accuracy of building extraction in complex urban landscapes.

Cyber-Physical systems (CPSs), which integrate control, computing, and communication, are considered as next-generation intelligent systems.A major concern in CPS is to ensure security. Nevertheless, cyber security issues are also raised. More efforts are still required for understanding CPS security from a more comprehensive perspective even though there are several studies on CPS *** identify and detect cyber security in CPS, numerous methods have been applied. The majority of recently published studies focused on Machine Learning (ML) techniques, with little attention paid to the development of Deep Learning (DL). Hence, the analysis of cyber security on CPS utilizing several algorithms of DL techniques is systematically *** appropriate cyber security risk levels and their corresponding detection and mitigation processesare determined. This study could augment the adaptability of the system of CPS data. Also, it could increase the generalization of the models of security attacks in CPS. Using DL algorithms is strongly recommended by most authors as a means to identify cyber security issues in *** CNN-centric LSTM, Deep Multi-architectural Approach, and DL-Meta classifier attained the highest accuracy in the detection rate of cyber security attacks in CPS when analogized with the other algorithms in DL techniques.
