The Indian government uses a mechanism called the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) to rate those institutions of higher education. The NIRF uses five metrics, including research and development, teaching and learning-resources, graduation-outcome, outreach and inclusivity, and perception, to rank institutions. However, there is ongoing debate about the comparability and accuracy of the NIRF metrics. This study aims to compare the NIRF metrics used for ranking higher education institutions in India. In this study, GRD stands for machine learning algorithms including Gradient Boosting, Random Forest, and Decision Tree are used together with a mixed-methods strategy that combines qualitative and quantitative research techniques. The findings of the study suggest that while the NIRF metrics have some strengths and limitations, they provide a valuable tool for ranking higher education institutions in India. The study's results will be useful for stakeholders in the education sector, including policy makers, higher education institutions, and stakeholders, gain a better understanding of the NIRF measures and their applicability for ranking higher education institutions in India. Finding the key performance indicators (KPIs) that can be used to assess and improve the calibre of instruction in Indian educational institutions. The study also emphasises the necessity of continuing data gathering and analysis to maintain the usefulness and efficacy of these KPIs. In the conclusion, this study delivers insightful information about how data analysis contributes to raising educational standards in India and offers actionable advice for institutions wishing to improve. © 2023 IEEE.

A robust polyacrylic acid/chitosan cryogel for rapid hemostasis

Currently,it is a challenge to develop hemostatic materials with high water absorption capacity and anti-fatigue properties for quickly preventing massive hemorrhage from arteries and visceral organs.A series of polyacrylic acid/chitosan(PAA/CS)cryogels were prepared by a cryostructurization technique to improve mechanical performance and hemostatic efficiency of chitosan(CS).In this system,the chemically cross-linked PAA network was used as a framework to improve water absorption behaviors and mechanical *** CS network was co-blended by hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions,both of which synergistically promoted *** cryogels had high porosity(>94%),rapid water absorption rate(<3 s),high blood absorption capacity(>2000%),outstanding mechanical strength,and fatigue ***,the results of cytotoxicity and hemolysis demonstrated that the cryogels had good ***,the PAA/CS cryogels exhibited superior whole blood coagulation ability and red blood cell and platelet adhesion ability compared to those of commercial hemostatic dressing(gauze,gelatin sponges,and CS sponges).Based on these results,mouse femoral artery hemorrhage models and liver hemorrhage models were prepared to investigate the hemostatic ability of the prepared PAA/CS *** suggested that the hemostatic ability of PAA5/CS cryogels was superior to that of commercial hemostatic ***,the PAA/CS cryogels showed potential application in preventing massive hemorrhage from arteries and visceral organs.

Considering issues such as low assembly efficiency and the inability of the assembly process index and product characteristics to be fully reflected in the traditional construction mechanical arm assembly process, the concept of a digital twin was introduced. The study involved the modeling and simulation technology of the construction mechanical arm assembly process based on the digital twin, and included some path optimization. Furthermore, according to the virtual model, a genetic algorithm was employed to optimize the path in Matlab. Additionally, the Hamiltonian cycle algorithm was utilized to enhance the efficiency of the robot and decrease the working time. Taking the assembly line of a screw arm as an example, it was demonstrated that the assembly simulation based on digital twinning can monitor the assembly process in real time. It can also optimize its configuration to improve assembly efficiency and implement an effective closed-loop feedback mechanism to enhance production efficiency, improve production quality, and reduce production cost. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Assessment of the diurnal and semidiurnal signals induced by monument thermal effect with time series of very short GPS baselines

The monument thermal effect(MTE)displacements could result in periodical signals with several mil-limeters magnitudes in the vertical and horizontal GPS position time ***,the interaction ofvarious origins of periodic signals in GPS observations makes it difficult to isolate the millimeter-levelMTE displacement from other signals and *** this study,to assess the diurnal and semidiurnalsignals induced by MTE,we processed 12 very short GPS baselines(VSGB)with length<150 *** pairs for each baseline differ in their heights,horizontal structure,or base ***,two zero-baselines were also processed as the control *** showed that the sea-sonal signals observed in VSGB time series in the horizontal and vertical directions,were mainly inducedby seasonal ***-varying diurnal and semidiurnal signals with amplitude up to 4 mm wereobserved in the vertical direction for baselines with monument height difference(MHD)larger than10 *** diurnal signal with an amplitude of about 2 mm was also detected for baselines withnon-axisymmetric monument *** orientation of the detected horizontal displacement wascoherent with the direction of daily temperature variation(DTV)driven by direct solar radiation,whichindicates that the diurnal and semidiurnal signals are likely induced by *** observed high-frequency MTE displacements,if not well modeled and removed,may propagate into spurious long-term signals and bias the velocity estimation in the daily GPS time series.

The controller area network (CAN) protocol is widely used in vehicle networks. However, it lacks essential security features like confidentiality and authentication. To enhance vehicle security, researchers have proposed and developed various methods, including intrusion detection systems (IDSs). These IDSs play a key role in early detection of potential cyberattacks, safeguarding vehicles, passengers, and road users. Machine learning (ML) algorithms are increasingly employed in CAN IDSs but they face challenges due to diverse experimental settings, datasets, and metrics used for evaluation, impeding progress and comparison of different approaches in this field. This study aims to benchmark well-recognized ML algorithms, including gaussianNB, k-nearest neighbors (KNN), decision trees (DT), random forest (RF), long short-term memory (LSTM), and convolutional neural networks (CNN), for intrusion detection in CAN. We evaluate the performance of these algorithms using seven evaluation metrics on the real ORNL automotive dynamometer (ROAD) dataset, a state-of-the-art benchmark in this field. Experimental results demonstrate that KNN, DT, RF, LSTM, and CNN can detect various types of attacks (e.g., Fuzzing, targeted ID, and masquerade attacks) with high accuracy. However, the computational and time efficiency of tree-based classifiers, namely DT and RF, makes them a potentially appealing choice for real-time intrusion detection tasks in CAN. © 2023 IEEE.

In the big data environment, customer information is lengthy and complex, and lenders need to connect with users on the Internet. Therefore, higher requirements are required for the identification of customers. In view of the above problems, this paper proposes a credit default detection model based on improved smote algorithm and GA_LightGBM algorithm to detect customer credit default behavior. The experimental results show that the model has a good prediction effect in the aspect of user credit default. © 2022 ACM.

Cloud particle images taken by two-dimensional stereo cloud particle Imager (2D-S) and high resolution cloud particle imager (CPI) play an important role in the study of cloud particle morphology. This paper proposes a method of cloud particle shape classification based on convolutional neural network, constructs a 21-layer convolutional neural network model, designs a visualization App based on MATLAB App Designer toolbox, and realizes the classification of cloud particle shapes measured by 2D-S and CPI instruments. By exploring the performance of the convolutional neural network model classification results under different parameter Settings, and comparing with the traditional convolutional neural network, the optimal network model under experimental data is determined. The results show that this model has an accuracy of 90.03% and a shorter training time than the transfer learning method, which suggests that the presented model can better assist the research of cloud precipitation physics and weather modification. © 2023 IEEE.

Cargo hold clearing operation is a crucial part of the bulk carrier discharge process. Traditionally, this task is performed using manually operated clearing machines to gather residual cargo for removal by grabs. However, this method is both inefficient and risky. This paper introduces an improved hybrid A* algorithm for full-coverage path planning in cargo hold clearing robots, establishing a foundation stacking of material for autonomous operations. First, a genetic algorithm-based approach is proposed to optimize the distribution and location of material piling spots for the robots. This method creates a detailed cargo hold environment model and determines the optimal placement of material piling spots using genetic algorithms. Second, an improved hybrid A* path planning algorithm is presented, tailored to the unique characteristics of cargo hold clearing operation. This algorithm considers the kinematic constraints of the robots, operational distance limits, and the boundaries of the clearing area, enabling efficient path planning for multiple material piling spots and achieving full coverage for the clearing robots. Experimental results show that this method achieves full coverage and efficient path planning within cargo holds. The genetic algorithm’s optimized material piling spot distribution increases bucket overlap efficiency by 365.8%, while the improved path planning algorithm boosts planning efficiency by 92.8%, ensuring the effectiveness of subsequent cargo hold clearing operations. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu. Deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have facilitated remarkable success in recognizing various food items and agricultural stress. A decent performance boost has been witnessed in solving the agro-food challenges by mining and analyzing region-based partial feature descriptors. Also, computationally expensive ensemble learning schemes fusing multiple CNNs have been studied in earlier works. This work proposes a region attention scheme for modeling long-range dependencies by building a correlation among different regions within an input image. The attention method enhances feature representation by learning the usefulness of context information from complementary regions. Spatial pyramidal pooling and average pooling pairs aggregate partial descriptors into a holistic representation. Both pooling methods establish spatial and channelwise relationships without incurring extra parameters. A context gating scheme is applied to refine the descriptiveness of weighted attentional features, which is relevant for classification. The proposed region attention network for food items and agricultural stress recognition method, dubbed RAFA-Net, has been experimented on three public food datasets, and has achieved state-of-the-art performances with distinct margins. The highest top-1 accuracy of RAFA-Net is 91.69%, 91.56%, and 96.97% on the UECFood-100, UECFood-256, and MAFood-121 datasets, respectively. In addition, better accuracies have been achieved on two benchmark agricultural stress datasets. The best top-1 accuracies on the Insect Pest (IP-102) and PlantDoc-27 plant disease datasets are 92.36%, and 85.54%, respectively;implying RAFA-Net's generalization capability. © 2023 IEEE.
