The slow growth rate of autotrophic bacteria and regulation of biofilm thickness are critical factors that limit the development of a hydrogen-based membrane biofilm reactor(H_(2)-MBfR).The acylhomoserine lactone(AHL)mediated quorum sensing(QS)system is a crucial mechanism regulating biofilm ***,the AHLs that promote biofilm formation in autotrophic denitrification systems and their underlying mechanisms,remain *** study explored the impact of AHLmediated QS signaling molecules on biofilm development in H_(2)-*** study revealed that C_(14)-HSL and C_(4)-HSL are potential signaling molecules that enhanced biofilm formation in long-term stable operating H_(2)-*** short-term experiments with C_(14)-HSL and C_(4)-HSL confirmed their ability to increase bacterial adhesion to carrier surfaces by promoting the production of extracellular polymeric substances(EPS).Functional gene annotation indicated that exogenous C_(14)-HSL and C_(4)-HSL increased the abundance of signal transduction(increased by 0.250%–0.375%),strengthening the inter bacterial QS response while enhancing cell motility(increased by 0.24%and 0.21%,respectively)and biological adhesion(increased by 0.044%and 0.020%,respectively),thereby accelerating the initial bacterial attachment to hollow fiber membranes and facilitating biofilm *** findings contribute to the understanding of microbial community interactions in H_(2)-MBfRs and provide novel approaches for biofilm management in wastewater treatment systems.

Microstructure evolution and precipitation behavior of Al-Mg-Si alloy during initial aging

The microstructure evolution and precipitation behavior of Al-Mg-Si alloy during initial aging were studied using hardness testing, conductivity testing, differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), and high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM). The results show that the precipitation sequence of the Al-Mg-Si alloy during initial aging can be represented as: supersaturated solid solution → spherical Mg/Si clusters → needle-like Guinier Preston(GP) zone → β″. Clusters are completely coherent with the Al matrix. The GP zone with relatively complete independent lattice parameters that differ slightly from the Al matrix parameters, is oriented along the direction of <111>Aland lying on {111}Alplane. The strength of the Al-Mg-Si alloy is greatly enhanced by the threedimensional strain field that exists between the β″ phase and the two {200}Alplanes. After aging at 170 ℃ for 6 h, the hardness reaches the peak of 127 HV and remains for a long time. At this stage, the electrical conductivity keeps relatively stable due to the formation of coherent precipitates(Mg/Si clusters/GP zones) and the reduction in solute atom concentration in the Al matrix. The severe coarsening and decreased number density of the β″ phase during the over-aging stage result in a significant decrease in the hardness.

A data-driven framework with strong generalization capabilities is proposed to effectively extract features and easily access battery capacity. This framework can make highly accurate predictions for the battery capacities of plug-in electric vehicles. The feature extraction process is entirely based on statistics, which are always available and can be generalized to various types of battery data. An improved ampere-hour integral method can easily access battery capacity with just short-charging segments lasting 500 s. Several machine-learning models are trained to verify the framework's effectiveness, with the best model achieving a test error of 0.84 % based on leave-one-out validation. SHAP values are used to provide a reasonable interpretation of the relationships between the constructed features and model outputs. The proposed framework offers advantages such as reduced computational resources, wide generalization, and high prediction accuracy, showing great potential for battery management.

Satellite handover frequently occurs on low-earth-orbit (LEO) satellite communication systems, and it affects system availability. However, existing studies neglected such an impact. To solve the problem above, this paper proposed a topology modeling method, in which the satellite dynamic operation is divided into small time slices to simplify the system, and the earth ground is divided into grids to abstract the ground user's communication requirement. Then, the service availability is defined according to the key performance parameter of the communication service, delay, and a Monte Carlo-based availability assessment method is addressed with the consideration of the satellite handover. Finally, a case is used to analyze how satellite handover strategies affect service availability. and suggestions are given to improve system availability. © 2023 IEEE.

This article investigates the influence of temperature on the total ionizing dose (TID) effects in optical fibers. Radiation induced attenuation (RIA) spectra at 1310 nm were measured in G652, OM, PM1016-C, and homemade B1-R fibers during and after γ-irradiation at different temperatures. The B1-R fibers were doped with varying Al2O3 content in their core and coating layers. Experimental results show that the B1-R fibers have significant lower losses compared with the other three fibers. At a temperature of 25° and a TID does of 50 kGy, the B1-R fiber showed an RIA of only 1.35 dB/Km, while the other three fibers exhibit a minimum loss exceeding 6.44 dB/Km. Furthermore, the B1-R fiber withstood an irradiation does 100 times higher than other optical fibers. For a fixed temperature, the attenuation in B1-R fibers recovered quickly after irradiation, reaching their minimum values approximately 15 days post-irradiation, whereas the other three optical fibers required more than 25 days to recover. This study also delves into the underlying mechanisms contributing to the radiation resistance of B1-R optical fibers. The findings presented in this work offer critical insights for the development of high-performance, radiation resistant fibers, rendering them suitable for deployment in challenging deep space environments characterized by intense radiation conditions. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. Oily wastewater from ocean oil spills endangers marine ecosystems and human health. Therefore, developing an effective and sustainable solution for separating oil-water mixtures is urgent. Interfacial solar photothermal evaporation is a promising approach for the complete separation of two-phase mixtures using only solar energy. Herein, we report a carbonized wood-based absorber with Janus structure of comprising a hydrophobic top-layer and an oleophobic bottom-layer for simultaneous solar-driven oil-water separation and electricity generation. Under sunlight irradiation, the rapid evaporation of seawater will induce a separation of oil-water mixtures, and cause a high salt concentration region underlying the interface, while the bottom “bulk water” maintains in a low salt concentration, thus forming a salinity gradient. Electricity can be generated by salinity gradient power. Therefore, oil-water separation efficiency of > 99% and derived extra electricity power of ~0.1 W/m2 is achieved under solar radiation, demonstrating the feasibility of oil-water separation and electricity production synchronously directly using solar energy. This work provides a green and cost-effective path for the separation of oil-water mixtures.

The hot end components of aerospace vehicles cannot be completely machined into an integrated structure, so a large number of C/SiC Ceramic matrix composite connection structures are used. The connection structure of C/SiC composite materials has the characteristics of low pre-tightening force and the need for secondary deposition during the preparation process. Its tightening mechanism is different from that of metal fasteners, which makes it difficult to analyze the dynamic characteristics of the connection structure. In this paper, the Tensile testing and shear test of typical C/SiC connection structure were carried out, and the influence of contact interface SiC matrix on the structural stiffness during the preparation of the connection structure was analyzed. A dynamic modeling method for C/SiC connection structures was established by using spring elements to simulate C/SiC screws and cohesive elements to simulate the deposited substrate at the contact interface. Modal tests were conducted on C/SiC lap plates under free boundary conditions, obtaining the first five modal frequencies and modes. With the development of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), their application scenarios and task requirements have become more complex, demanding higher standards for subsequent fault diagnosis and equipment maintenance. The actual flight data of UAV usually exhibits small sample sizes and imbalanced characteristics. To achieve more efficient fault prediction for UAV, this paper establishes a SMOTE-IWOA-RF fault diagnosis model. This model optimizes the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) using chaotic initialization, nonlinear convergence factors, and Lévy flight strategies, resulting in better convergence accuracy and global search capability, as well as faster convergence speed. The model is compared with other classification models on data with different imbalance ratios, demonstrating that it is more efficient and accurate in UAV fault diagnosis, with the F1 score improving by about 10% compared to the pre-optimization state. Furthermore, the IWOA-RF model is combined with other data preprocessing methods, showing that SMOTE-IWOA-RF performs better on UAV operational data, indicating its practical value. © 2024 IEEE.

Insight into slag-enhanced thermal desorption at the organo-mineral interface of clay soils

Multiple active components in steel slags can optimize soil texture and catalyze the thermal desorption of refractory organic pollutants,especially polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons （PAHs）.In this study,a safety and risk assessment was conducted on toxic metals present in collected steel slags,and the refining slag with a high content of free-Ca O from the XG iron and steel plant （XGRS） was selected and used to regulate the plasticity index （PI） of clay *** the clay soil with high liquid limit and high plasticity （CH）,the PI reduced from 34.3% to 24.8% with steel slags at an addition ratio of 10%（mass percent）,and for the clay soil with low liquid limit （CL）,the PI decreased from 22.8% to 16.5%,resulting in silt soil with optimal thermal *** thermal removal efficiency of PAHs in CH decreased from 81.9% to 74.0% at 350°C as the soil water content increased from 0 to 150 g kg-1,due to the hydration and swelling of clay minerals and the heat loss associated with dehydroxylation and *** efficiency further decreased to 68.7% using 2%（mass percent） Ca O as an additive due to the delayed dehydr（oxyl）ation of clay minerals and enhanced aromatization of soil organic *** contrast,addition of 2% high-content titania-bearing slag （HTBS） enhanced the removal efficiency of high-ring PAHs,with the efficiency increasing for 5-ring from 52.6% to 59.7% and for 6-ring from 76.6% to 81.8%.This is due to the presence of amorphous TiO2and crystalline CaTiO3in HTBS,which can degrade water to produce reactive oxygen *** 2% XGRS addition facilitated the complete removal of PAHs by air-supplemented lattice oxygen,leading to the oxidation of C–C bonds in CH to C–O,C=O,and O–C=O functional *** study provides valuable insights into the use of additives to enhance the thermal remediation of PAH-contaminated clay soils via activating oxygen species and oxidizing C–C bonds in organo-mineral complexes within clay soils.
