Contributions of shortwave radiation to the formation of temperature inversions in the Bay of Bengal and eastern equatorial Indian Ocean:A modeling approach

Variations in incoming shortwave radiation influence the net surface heat flux,contributing to the formation of a temperature *** effects of shortwave radiation on the temperature inversions in the Bay of Bengal and eastern equatorial Indian Ocean have never been ***,a high-resolution(horizontal resolution of 0.07°×0.07° with 50 vertical layers) Regional Ocean Modeling system(ROMS) model is utilized to quantify the contributions of shortwave radiation to the temperature inversions in the study *** of the mixed layer heat and salt budgets are performed,and different model simulations are *** model results suggest that a 30% change in shortwave radiation can change approximately 3% of the temperature inversion area in the Bay of *** shortwave radiation reduces the net surface heat flux and cools the mixed layer substantially;it also reduces the evaporation rate,causing less evaporative water vapor losses from the ocean than the typical situation,and ultimately enhances haline ***,the rudimentary outcome of this research is that a decrease in shortwave radiation produces more temperature inversion in the study region,which is primarily driven by the net surface cooling and supported by the intensive haline ***,low shortwave radiation eventually intensifies the temperature inversion layer by thickening the barrier *** study could be an important reference for predicting how the Indian Ocean climate will respond to future changes in shortwave radiation.

RA-Depth: Resolution Adaptive Self-Supervised Monocular Depth Estimation

Existing self-supervised monocular depth estimation methods can get rid of expensive annotations and achieve promising results. However, these methods suffer from severe performance degradation when directly adopting a model trained on a fixed resolution to evaluate at other different resolutions. In this paper, we propose a resolution adaptive self-supervised monocular depth estimation method (RA-Depth) by learning the scale invariance of the scene depth. Specifically, we propose a simple yet efficient data augmentation method to generate images with arbitrary scales for the same scene. Then, we develop a dual high-resolution network that uses the multi-path encoder and decoder with dense interactions to aggregate multi-scale features for accurate depth inference. Finally, to explicitly learn the scale invariance of the scene depth, we formulate a cross-scale depth consistency loss on depth predictions with different scales. Extensive experiments on the KITTI, Make3D and NYU-V2 datasets demonstrate that RA-Depth not only achieves state-of-the-art performance, but also exhibits a good ability of resolution adaptation. Previous research in pedestrian re-identification can be broadly categorized into three classes: image-to-image, video-to-video, and text-to-image pedestrian re-identification. However, these paradigms exhibit certain limitations in practical applications. Hence, this paper introduces a novel task: utilizing natural language to retrieve pedestrians in videos. Specifically, given a textual description of a person, the model’s objective is to retrieve the pedestrian from a video dataset that best matches the provided text. Due to the absence of datasets specifically designed for text-to-video pedestrian re-identification, we undertook manual annotations on the video-based pedestrian re-identification dataset, MARS, to establish the T-MARS dataset. In this paper, we propose the Implicit Alignment Framework with Local Capture Attention Module(IAFL) for text-to-video pedestrian re-identification. The Local Capture Attention Module incorporates local priors while modeling inter-frame complementary relationships, thereby effectively transferring knowledge from text-to-image models to the task of text-to-video pedestrian re-identification. A plethora of text-to-video models are evaluated and compared on this dataset. We observe that the proposed Implicit Alignment Framework is more suitable for achieving cross-modal granularity alignment in pedestrian re-identification tasks. Additionally, IAFL establishes the state-of-the-art performance in pedestrian search.

This study introduces an enhanced methodology to investigate the complex interactions within temperature-dependent thermoelastic systems, particularly under the Dual-Phase-Lag (DPL) model. Motivated by the challenges posed by nonlinear thermoelasticity, where thermal loads significantly influence material geometry and properties, the research aims to bridge the gap in accurately modeling such phenomena. Real-world applications, including the behavior of materials under extreme thermal conditions and thermal stresses in large-scale structures, necessitate precise methodologies to capture these intricate couplings between thermal and mechanical effects. To this end, the study introduces an enhanced approach, the improved modified extended tanh function technique (IMETFT). The analysis reveals a variety of solutions, such as dark soliton, bright soliton, singular soliton, hyperbolic, rational, Jacobi elliptic, polynomial, and exponential solutions. Graphical depictions of some of the extracted solutions are included to aid readers in physically understanding the obtained solutions’ behavior and characteristics. © 2025 The Authors

The way in which work is carried out has changed significantly over the last couple of decades. Mobile workers are increasingly becoming the norm for many enterprises, as the benefits of productivity and cost-effective labor have spurred more and more companies/enterprises to have employees work outside of office premises. According to Strategy Analytics reports on the mobile workforce, the global mobile workforce is set to increase to 1.87 billion in 2022, accounting for 42.5% of the total global workforce. However, as workers outside of the office perimeter face increasing daily security threats, mobile workers present various risks to enterprises. Mobile workers themselves are also associated with risks due to changes in their working environment, as the increasing external pressures to work more effectively and efficiently can affect their well-being. Therefore, it is imperative that enterprises understand and address the unique challenges associated with mobile workers. This paper discusses our risk assessment of mobile workers in an enterprise based on 20 different risks extracted through a literature review of past research and surveys on mobile workers and the mobile workforce. © 2020 IEEE.

Terahertz communication is approaching the center of the stage in such a date-rate-demanding era. However, there are still several issues to be solved including integration and beam steering before bridging the gap between the generated THz wave and its practical usage. In this paper, three silicon-micromachined THz modules associated with THz wave radiation and transmission and their simulation results are presented. The 4×1 phased array achieves a realized gain of 10.2 dBi and a beam steering range of ± 22°. The CPW-to-hollow waveguide transition structure exhibits a bandwidth of about 50 GHz at -10 dB level and a return loss lower than -45 dB at working frequency. The proposed micromachined silicon platform reveals great scalability and potentials in integrated THz systems.

The study presents the concept of a computationally efficient machine learning (ML) model for diagnosing and monitoring Parkinson's disease (PD) in an Internet of Things (IoT) environment using rest-state EEG signals (rs-EEG). We computed different types of entropy from EEG signals and found that Fuzzy Entropy performed the best in diagnosing and monitoring PD using rs-EEG. We also investigated different combinations of signal frequency ranges and EEG channels to accurately diagnose PD. Finally, with a fewer number of features (11 features), we achieved a maximum classification accuracy (ARKF) of ~99.9%. The most prominent frequency range of EEG signals has been identified, and we have found that high classification accuracy depends on low-frequency signal components (0-4 Hz). Moreover, the most informative signals were mainly received from the right hemisphere of the head (F8, P8, T8, FC6). Furthermore, we assessed the accuracy of the diagnosis of PD using three different lengths of EEG data (150-1000 samples). Because the computational complexity is reduced by reducing the input data. As a result, we have achieved a maximum mean accuracy of 99.9% for a sample length (LEEG) of 1000 (~7.8 seconds), 98.2% with a LEEG of 800 (~6.2 seconds), and 79.3% for LEEG = 150 (~1.2 seconds). By reducing the number of features and segment lengths, the computational cost of classification can be reduced. In this paper, we propose RIPPB, a robust and improved PBFT protocol for Blockchain, to improve the quality of service for blockchain applications. At RIPPB, we introduce reputation for nodes and use reputation as the voting weight for node consensus to go against Sybil attacks. And we design a novel improved logistic regression model to assign reputations to nodes based on their behavior involved in block generation. With this model, nodes performing Stake-grinding attacks and Bribery attacks, face high reputation penalties, which is unacceptable for malicious nodes to reduce the probability of launching these attacks. In addition, RIPPB adds a pre-commit phase to the PBFT algorithm to reduce the number of inter-node communications, thus improving the performance of the protocol. Cost-of-attack analysis shows the high robustness of our protocol. Experimental results show a 28% improvement in the throughput of our protocol over PBFT.
