This paper addresses the problem of maneuvering multi-target tracking by a network of sensors having different and limited fields of view (FoV s). Each local sensor runs the Gaussian Mixture Probability Hypothetical Density (GMPHD) filter. Due to the target maneuver, based on a single motion model, severe tracking performance degradation can be observed. We propose to use multi-model (MM) method to realize the adaptation to motion characteristic so as to overcome maneuverability of targets. Then considering FoV s of sensors in the network are different and limited, the standard weighted arithmetic average (WAA) fusion is no longer applicable and leads to an underestimation of the target number. Therefore, we use state-dependent WAA (SD-WAA) fusion rule, which performs the WAA in a more robust way by calculating a set of state-related fusion weights. Numerical experiment is designed to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method.

Consider a processor having access only to meta-data consisting of the timings of data packets and acknowledgment (ACK) packets from all nodes in a network. The meta-data report the source node of each packet, but not the destination nodes or the contents of the packets. The goal of the processor is to infer the network topology based solely on such information. Prior work leveraged causality metrics to identify which links are active. If the data timings and ACK timings of two nodes – say node 1 and node 2, respectively – are causally related, this may be taken as evidence that node 1 is communicating to node 2 (which sends back ACK packets to node 1). This paper starts with the observation that packet losses can weaken the causality relationship between data and ACK timing streams. To obviate this problem, a new Expectation Maximization (EM)-based algorithm is introduced – EM-causality discovery algorithm (EM-CDA) – which treats packet losses as latent variables. Action Candidate Driven Clipped Double Q-learning for Discrete and Continuous Action Tasks

Double Q-learning is a popular reinforcement learning algorithm in Markov decision process (MDP) problems. Clipped Double Q-learning, as an effective variant of Double Qlearning, employs the clipped double estimator to approximate the maximum expected action value. Due to the underestimation bias of the clipped double estimator, the performance of clipped Double Q-learning may be degraded in some stochastic environments. In this paper, in order to reduce the underestimation bias, we propose an action candidate-based clipped double estimator for Double Q-learning. Specifically, we first select a set of elite action candidates with high action values from one set of estimators. Then, among these candidates, we choose the highest valued action from the other set of estimators. Finally, we use the maximum value in the second set of estimators to clip the action value of the chosen action in the first set of estimators and the clipped value is used for approximating the maximum expected action value. Theoretically, the underestimation bias in our clipped Double Q-learning decays monotonically as the number of action candidates decreases. Moreover, the number of action candidates controls the trade-off between the overestimation and underestimation biases. In addition, we also extend our clipped Double Q-learning to continuous action tasks via approximating the elite continuous action candidates. We empirically verify that our algorithm can more accurately estimate the maximum expected action value on some toy environments and yield good performance on several benchmark problems. Uncalibrated photometric stereo (UPS) is challenging due to the inherent ambiguity brought by the unknown light. Although the ambiguity is alleviated on non-Lambertian objects, the problem is still difficult to solve for more general objects with complex shapes introducing irregular shadows and general materials with complex reflectance like anisotropic reflectance. To exploit cues from shadow and reflectance to solve UPS and improve performance on general materials, we propose DANI-Net, an inverse rendering framework with differentiable shadow handling and anisotropic reflectance modeling. Unlike most previous methods that use non-differentiable shadow maps and assume isotropic material, our network benefits from cues of shadow and anisotropic reflectance through two differentiable paths. Experiments on multiple real-world datasets demonstrate our superior and robust performance.

This paper reports an ultra-soft neural probe with a temporary high-strength U-section coating of polyethylene glycol (PEG) for the first time. Its fabrication is compatible with MEMS processes, and an ultrathin U-section coating over the probe's back and sidewall is precisely formed by spinning and cold laser cutting. With this novel coating, the probe has both minimized cross-sectional area and sufficient mechanical strength for low-invasive penetration into brain. Besides, the remained ultra-soft deformable probe after PEG dissolution is expected to be the next generation of neural implant for chronic recording. © 2023 IEEJ.

Spin orbit torque (SOT) has become a promising approach to efficiently manipulate the magnetization switching in spintronic devices. As a main factor to impact the device performance, the high quality interface is essentially desired, which can be readily acquired by using the two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) materials. Recently, a 2D ferromagnetic material Fe3GaTe2 has been discovered to possess the above-room-temperature Curie temperature and strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA), providing an excellent candidate to build spintronic devices. On the other hand, an external magnetic field is necessary for the SOT-driven deterministic switching of perpendicular magnetization, which has become a block for the real applications. Here, we realize the field-free SOT switching of Fe3GaTe2 at room temperature based on the Fe3GaTe2/MnPt heterostructure. In addition, inspired by the superiority of 2D materials in 3D heterogeneous integration, we explore the potential of our device in the computing in memory (CIM). With the application of the current pulses, the gradual switching of our device at zero field imitates the function of artificial synapse in the convolutional neural network (CNN), achieving a high accuracy (~ 92.8%) pattern recognition. Our work proposes a feasible solution for field-free SOT switching in 2D vdW spintronic devices, which paves the way for applications in magnetic memory and neuromorphic computing. In this work, we investigate the joint visibility region (VR) detection and channel estimation (CE) problem for extremely large-scale multiple-input-multiple-output (XL-MIMO) systems considering both the spherical wavefront effect and spatial non-stationary (SnS) property. Specifically, we introduce a two-stage VR detection and CE scheme. In the first stage, the belief regarding the visibility of antennas is obtained through a VR detection-oriented message passing (VRDO-MP) scheme, which fully exploits the spatial correlation among adjacent antennas. In the second stage, leveraging the VR information and wavenumber-domain sparsity, we accurately estimate the SnS channel employing the belief-based orthogonal matching pursuit (BB-OMP) method. Simulations show that the proposed algorithms lead to a significant enhancement in VR detection and CE accuracy as compared to existing techniques, especially in low signal-to-noise ratio scenarios.

Fuel cell systems that utilize anode recirculation generally require a purge process to remove accumulated gaseous impurities from the anode recirculation system. Especially the accumulation of nitrogen leads to a decrease of the cell voltage and therefore a reduced stack efficiency. However, unconsumed hydrogen is lost during the purge process, resulting in a decrease of hydrogen utilization. Therefore, an optimal purge control can help to maximize the overall system *** order to determine and predict the influence of the purge valve opening on the system efficiency with respect to the hydrogen utilization and the stack efficiency we develop a control-oriented model of a PEMFC anode recirculation system. We then set up a model predictive purge controller and compare its performance to two standard purge strategies using the NEDC vehicle test cycle.
