With the evolution of self-supervised learning, the pre-training paradigm has emerged as a predominant solution within the deep learning landscape. Model providers furnish pre-trained encoders designed to function as versatile feature extractors, enabling downstream users to harness the benefits of expansive models with minimal effort through fine-tuning. Nevertheless, recent works have exposed a vulnerability in pre-trained encoders, highlighting their susceptibility to downstream-agnostic adversarial examples (DAEs) meticulously crafted by attackers. The lingering question pertains to the feasibility of fortifying the robustness of downstream models against DAEs, particularly in scenarios where the pre-trained encoders are publicly accessible to the *** this paper, we initially delve into existing defensive mechanisms against adversarial examples within the pre-training paradigm. Our findings reveal that the failure of current defenses stems from the domain shift between pre-training data and downstream tasks, as well as the sensitivity of encoder parameters. In response to these challenges, we propose Genetic Evolution-Nurtured Adversarial Fine-tuning (Gen-AF), a two-stage adversarial fine-tuning approach aimed at enhancing the robustness of downstream models. Gen-AF employs a genetic-directed dual-track adversarial fine-tuning strategy in its first stage to effectively inherit the pre-trained encoder. This involves optimizing the pre-trained encoder and classifier separately while incorporating genetic regularization to preserve the model’s topology. In the second stage, Gen-AF assesses the robust sensitivity of each layer and creates a dictionary, based on which the top-k robust redundant layers are selected with the remaining layers held fixed. Upon this foundation, we conduct evolutionary adaptability fine-tuning to further enhance the model’s generalizability. Multiview clustering has wide real-world applications because it can process data from multiple sources. However, these data often contain missing instances and noises, which are ignored by most multiview clustering methods. Missing instances may make these methods difficult to use directly, and noises will lead to unreliable clustering results. In this article, we propose a novel autoweighted noisy and incomplete multiview clustering (ANIMC) approach via a soft autoweighted strategy and a doubly soft regular regression model. First, by designing adaptive semiregularized nonnegative matrix factorization, the soft autoweighted strategy assigns a proper weight to each view and adds a soft boundary to balance the influence of noises and incompleteness. Second, by proposing θ-norm, the doubly soft regularized regression model adjusts the sparsity of our model by choosing different θ. Compared with previous methods, ANIMC has three unique advantages: 1) it is a soft algorithm to adjust our approach in different scenarios, thereby improving its generalization ability;2) it automatically learns a proper weight for each view, thereby reducing the influence of noises;3) it performs doubly soft regularized regression that aligns the same instances in different views, thereby decreasing the impact of missing instances. Extensive experimental results show its superior advantages over other state-of-the-art works. © 2020 IEEE.

Internet of Things, edge computing devices, the widespread use of artificial intelligence and machine learning applications, and the extensive adoption of cloud computing pose significant challenges to maintaining fault tolerance in distributed systems. As the volume and complexity of systems continue to grow, the probability of system failures also grows, leading to downtime and poor performance. Fault tolerance is pivotal in modern computing systems by preventing downtime and service disruptions, even during failures. However, adopting fault tolerance comes with additional resource consumption, such as memory, CPU, disk, and network bandwidth usage, impacting system performance. Balancing fault tolerance with system performance is crucial to optimize resource utilization while minimizing the costs associated with detecting and recovering from faults. This paper introduces a node-to-node fault tolerance coordination mechanism for distributed systems to facilitate the tradeoff between fault tolerance and the cost of performance penalties and resource consumption. The proposed mechanism is preliminarily implemented on HDFS cluster. Our proposal enables opportunities to minimize the cost of the fault tolerance impact on performance and resource usage compared to the existing fault tolerance coordination mechanism. © 2023 IEEE.

Medical image encryption is a mandatory process in various healthcare, Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and cloud services. This paper provides a robust cryptosystem based on a 3D chaotic map for the medical image encryption in secure IoMT and cloud services. The proposed encryption method depends on a 3D chaotic map. With this map, a nonlinear ciphering process is implemented for pixel value diffusion and position permutation. Five operations are conducted in the suggested cryptosystem on the medical images to be transmitted in order to attain a high security level. These operations are 3D chaos generation, chaos histogram equalization, row rotation, column rotation, and XOR operation. To validate the suggested cryptosystem, different medical images with different characteristics are tested. Moreover, the suggested cryptosystem and more recent state-of-the-art security systems are discussed and analyzed in a comparative study. Different assessment parameters are adopted to assess the suggested cryptosystem, which reveals high security performance. The simulation outcomes show that the suggested cryptosystem is trustworthy. Furthermore, it offers high robustness levels and recommended security levels for utilization in healthcare, IoMT and cloud service applications. It is observed that the amount of average entropy obtained by the proposed 3D chaos cryptosystem is 7.95 which is very close to its best value of 8, and the average NPCR value is 99.62% which is also much close to its supreme value of 99.60%. In addition, all other results scored for the test evaluation parameters on the suggested cryptosystem are superior to those of the traditional security systems. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2022.

The detrimental effects of atmospheric haze frequently plague outdoor imagery. This phenomenon arises from the scattering of light by minute particles within the ambient environment surrounding the scene to be imaged. Haze engenders an overall whitening of the image, leading to diminished contrast. To address these issues and enhance the quality of hazy images and videos, an enhanced dehazing technique is proposed. The proposed technique includes image enhancement before the optimal dehazing process. The enhancement stage entails the implementation of both homomorphic processing and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE), serving to control the image dynamic range, while concurrently heightening the image contrast. The culminating stage encompasses an optimized dehazing technique, adept at expunging haze-induced artifacts from images. The homomorphic processing and CLAHE, applied in the pre-processing step, establish a foundation for the subsequent dehazing procedure. This proposed methodology is systematically applied to a gamut of visual outputs, including visible videos, Near-Infrared (NIR) frames, and authentic hazy images. Comparative evaluations of the proposed technique, homomorphic-processing-based enhanced dehazing, and standalone dehazing techniques is undertaken on different video types encompassing five frames. It is evident that the proposed technique, synergizing the homomorphic processing, CLAHE, and dehazing, outperforms alternative strategies. Furthermore, the proposed technique is subjected to a comparative study with various existing dehazing techniques over real hazy images. The assessment depends on Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), correlation, and entropy metrics. The results underscore the efficacy of the proposed technique, particularly in terms of spectral entropy enhancement of dehazed frames. For both visible and NIR frames, the percentages of enhancement by the proposed technique are 17.66% and 118.48%, respectively. ©

Time-dependent, two-dimensional (r-z) magnetohydrodynamic numerical analysis is conducted for a commercial-scale, nonequilibrium MHD generator with a thermal input of 1000 MW to clarify the effect of externally applied magnetic flux density on the control range of output power by adjusting seed fraction and load voltage. The output power is controlled more widely by lowering magnetic flux density, although the isentropic efficiency is forced to be lower. This is because both the operation ranges of seed fraction and load voltage yielding a stable plasma become wide for low magnetic flux density. © 2023 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

At present, colorectal cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers in the world. Colectomy serves as an effective treatment option for this disease. Preoperative localization plays a vital role in the colectomy procedure. However, traditional preoperative localization techniques have a greater risk of infection and lower accuracy. Moreover, it is difficult for the previous anchoring robots to adapt to the unstructured environment of the GI tract because of their limited movement abilities. To address these challenges, this work develops a robotic anchoring system with two locomotion modes which can anchor in the designated position. Driven by the external magnetic field, the robot can achieve slipping and flipping in the stomach. When the gradients of the field increase, the robot is triggered to deploy the anchoring mechanism in the intestine. Two in vitro experiments are conducted in the stomach and intestine phantoms. The first experiment demonstrates that the robot system can achieve both slipping and flipping in the stomach and its average position error is 2.96mm. The second experiment shows that the robot system can anchor in the designated position near the tumor and can resist a peristalsis force of 0.82N from the intestine wall. © 2024 IEEE.
