The research on aggregation-induced emission (AIE) has drawn increasing interests in the past decade. With the efforts scientists paid, a variety of AIE systems have been developed, among which the tetraphenylethelene and silole derivatives are the most studied. Development of new AIE systems could further enrich the AIE molecules and promote the development of AIE area. In this communication, we prepared a new AIE system based on 1,2,4,6-tetraphenylpyridinium ions according to the restriction of intramolecular rotation mechanism. These molecules could be facilely synthesized via one-step and one-pot reaction. The ionic AIE-active molecules could find wide application in sensing and optoelectronic areas.

In this work, a series of luminogens comprised of tetraphenylethene plus spirobifluorene or 9,9-diphenylfluorene are synthesized and characterized. Whereas these luminogens are weakly fluorescent in solutions, they are highly emissive in the aggregated state, with high fluorescence quantum yields up to 99% in solid films, demonstrating aggregation-induced emission characteristics. Reversible piezochromic luminescence is observed from the solids of the luminogens. A notable emission color change from blue (445 nm) to green (503 nm) is readily realized by grinding the pristine powder of the luminogen. The blue emission is recovered by fuming the ground powder with dichloromethane vapor. The undoped electroluminescence devices using the luminogens as light-emitting layers are fabricated, affording high current efficiencies up to 7.2 cd/A.

The chemical kinetics of propane pyrolysis in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is investigated in 1074 reactions consisting of 285 species to understand chemistry of CVD from propane. The reaction mechanism is modeled in a perfectly stirred reactor and a continuous tubular reactor, to produce a 0-D and a 1-D propane pyrolysis model, respectively. The concentration profiles of gas-phase products in the axial direction of the reactor as functions of temperature and residence time are computed with the DETCHEM software package designed for computing time-dependent homogeneous reactions. Comparison between simulated and experimental results shows that the mechanism gives the formation pathway for all major products and can predict the concentration profiles of minor products. Main reaction paths and crucial reaction steps have been determined at 1248 K for 1s by analyzing the flux of the main products. The significant roles of radicals such as propargyl, cyclopentadienyl and indenyl in the formation of polyaromatic hydrocarbons were discussed. [New Carbon Materials 2013, 29(1): 67–77]

The Ba-, La- and Ag-doped polycrystalline Ca2.9M0.1Co4O9 (M=Ca, Ba, La, Ag) thermoelectric bulk samples were pre- pared via citrate acid sol-gel synthesis method followed by spark plasma sintering technique. The bulk samples were characterized and analyzed with regard to their phase compositions, grain orientations as well as microstructures. The high temperature thermoelec- tric transport properties of the bulk samples were studied in detail. All bulk samples were found to be single-phased with modified body texture. The electrical resistivity was modulated as a result of carrier concentration modification, however the carrier transport process was not influenced; the Seebeck coefficient was deteriorated simultaneously. The total thermal conductivity was remarkably reduced, on account of the decreasing of phonon thermal conductivity. The thermoelectric properties of the Ba-, La-, and Ag-doped bulk samples were optimized, and the Ba-doped Ca2.9Ba0.1Co4O9 system was found to have the highest dimensionless figure of merit ZT0.20 at 973 K, which was remarkably higher than that of the un-doped sample.

An optical device,consisting of a multi-mode Fabry-Prot laser diode(MMFP-LD) with two-stage optical feedback,is proposed and experimentally *** results show that the single-mode output with side-mode suppression ratio(SMSR) of21.7dB is attained by using the first-stage *** using the second-stage feedback,the SMSR of single-mode operation could be increased to28.5dB while injection feedback power of—29 dBm is introduced into the laser *** the case of up to —29 dBm feedback power,the outcome SMSR is rapidly decayed to a very low level so that an obvious multi-mode operation in the output spectrum could be achieved at the feedback power level of—15.5 ***,a transition between single- and multi-mode operations could be flexibly controlled by adjusting the injected power in the second-stage feedback ***,in the case of injection locking,the outcome SMSR and output power at the locked wavelength are as high as50dB and5.8dBm,respectively.
