The metagratings have attracted extensive attention over the recent years as a special class of periodic metamaterials for their near-perfect electromagnetic wave manipulation through a simple and sparse array structure. In this paper, we propose a dual-band metagrating design for wide-angle reflection. The proposed structure with dual-band response can perform as one period at low frequency band and equal as two periods at high frequency band, thus realizing beam manipulation at two frequency bands by periodic conversion. The design procedure is fast, accurate and easy to implement combined with analytical design and local periodic approximation. To verify the performance of the proposed design, a dual-band printed circuit board metagrating that performs perfect anomalous reflection at 6.16 GHz and 20 GHz is designed and demonstrated.

Machine learning is a key component of many applications, among which decentralized learning has attracted wide attention because of its cost-effectiveness and high efficiency. However, decentralized learning is vulnerable to various Byzantine attacks. Existing defense models face challenges in defending against complex attacks and are often constrained by strict network topologies. To address this issue, a parameter aggregation rule based on reputation evaluation (RPV) is proposed in this paper. This rule establishes a reputation model for neighboring nodes and continuously updates it based on their distance performance during each iteration. By applying the reputation model of neighboring nodes to the Beta distribution, their reliability is obtained. Based on the reliability of neighboring nodes, the set of reliable nodes for this iteration and select parameter values from them for aggregation are determined. Finally, we gradually eliminate the influence of Byzantine nodes. Our experimental results on the MNIST dataset demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is resilient to attacks from any number of Byzantine nodes and outperforms previous defense models in terms of network topology constraints, training accuracy, and computational costs.

Traffic classification is an essential part of intelligent network management in Fifth generation (5G) networks, from quality of service guarantees to security monitoring. With the evolution of diverse services and applications over 5G networks, traffic patterns and their implications also becoming more complicated, especially in wireless networks. How to dynamically manage the growing traffic demand and satisfy the quality of service (QoS) needs of new applications is particularly critical. The biggest challenge is how to identify traffic types accurately without application information and manual features. However, the existing deep learning (DL)-based classifiers heavily rely on extensive and high-quality samples, which proves impractical to obtain in wireless networks. To overcome this limitation, we propose an ensemble Learning based traffic classification model to provide accurate identification with small-scale datasets, where Attention-based Long Short-Term Memory Networks are bagged to train this classifier. The ensemble learning approach employs a combinatorial design involving five base models to construct more accurate and robust learning models. This enables effective feature absorption, making it feasible to train classifiers on limited sample sets. Comprehensive experiments are conducted using a real-world dataset covering 16 applications. Results demonstrate that, even with a mere 10% of training samples, our proposed model achieves a classification accuracy of 95.57% and a precision of 95.83%, surpassing multiple cutting-edge methods.

The reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) stands as an emergent technique poised to revolutionize future vehicular communication. In order to facilitate the application of RIS in vehicular communication, this paper proposes two effective RIS-aided schemes tailored for polarization modulation (PM) aiming to achieve remarkable spectral efficiency. Specifically, Scheme I proposes a novel index modulation (IM) aided PM-RIS framework that innovatively encodes information across three distinct dimensions, the indices of dual-polarized antennas (DP-AEs), PM symbols and the reflecting surface indices of the RIS. Scheme II employs a deep neural network method to analyze the channel state information (CSI) for transmit antenna selection, that enhances the reliability and interference immunity in dynamic conditions while reducing computational complexity. Furthermore, a stepwise estimation (SE) method is introduced at the detection stage, which significantly reduces the complexity associated with information decoding. The simulation results highlight the superiority of the proposed system. Compared with traditional PM systems, it demonstrates enhanced performance in terms of spectral efficiency, channel stability, and bit error rate (BER). © 2014 IEEE.

The advancement of millimeter-wave communication technology heralds new sensing capabilities. By leveraging channel multipath parameter estimates, we can harness simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) for precise user equipment (UE) localization and radio map construction in 6 G communication systems. Particularly in multi-UE scenarios, SLAM empowers base stations to amalgamate the local radio maps of various UEs efficiently. This study introduces a novel Bayesian framework specifically designed for multi-UE SLAM, complemented by a tailored factor graph. We also unveil a two-stage multi-UE SLAM algorithm. Our simulation results reveal that this algorithm substantially enhances radio map construction accuracy by $\mathbf{4 8. 5 \%}$ and UE localization accuracy by $13.5 \%$, outperforming single-UE cases. Moreover, the algorithm demonstrates remarkable adaptability to environmental changes, showcasing its potential for long-term evolution in dynamic settings.

This paper devotes to combine the chirp basis function transformation and symplectic coordinates transformation to yield a novel Wigner distribution (WD) associated with the linear canonical transform (LCT), named as the symplectic WD in the LCT domain (SWDL). It incorporates the merits of the symplectic WD (SWD) and the WD in the LCT domain (WDL), achieving stronger capability in the linear frequency-modulated (LFM) signal frequency rate feature extraction while maintaining the same level of computational complexity. Some essential properties of the SWDL are derived, including marginal distributions, energy conservations, unique reconstruction, Moyal formula, complex conjugate symmetry, time reversal symmetry, scaling property, time translation property, frequency modulation property, and time translation and frequency modulation property. Heisenberg’s uncertainty principles of the SWDL are formulated, giving rise to three kinds of lower bounds attainable respectively by Gaussian enveloped complex exponential signal, Gaussian signal and Gaussian enveloped chirp signal. The optimal symplectic matrices corresponding to the highest time-frequency resolution are generated by solving the lower bound optimization (minimization) problem. The time-frequency resolution of the SWDL is compared with those of the SWD and WDL to demonstrate its superiority in LFM signals time-frequency energy concentration. A Ka-band quasi-elliptic bandpass filter (BPF) based on stereolithography apparatus (SLA) 3-D printing technique is proposed. The filter consists of four coupled resonators with three direct couplings between adjacent resonators and a cross coupling between the first and fourth resonators. Benefited from this feature, a pair of transmission zeros (TZs) can be produced in the stopband to enhance the passband selectivity significantly. Additionally, two waveguide bends are incorporated with the input and output waveguides to facilitate experimental test. For demonstration, a 3-D printed BPF prototype with center frequency of 30 GHz, bandwidth of 1.4 GHz, and return loss better than 20 dB is implemented and tested. The weight of the filter is 9.8 g only. The measured results demonstrate that the passband return loss is better than 10 dB, and the average in-band insertion loss is less than 2 dB.

Understanding the Dynamics of DNNs Using Graph Modularity

There are good arguments to support the claim that deep neural networks (DNNs) capture better feature representations than the previous hand-crafted feature engineering, which leads to a significant performance improvement. In this paper, we move a tiny step towards understanding the dynamics of feature representations over layers. Specifically, we model the process of class separation of intermediate representations in pre-trained DNNs as the evolution of communities in dynamic graphs. Then, we introduce modularity, a generic metric in graph theory, to quantify the evolution of communities. In the preliminary experiment, we find that modularity roughly tends to increase as the layer goes deeper and the degradation and plateau arise when the model complexity is great relative to the dataset. Through an asymptotic analysis, we prove that modularity can be broadly used for different applications. For example, modularity provides new insights to quantify the difference between feature representations. More crucially, we demonstrate that the degradation and plateau in modularity curves represent redundant layers in DNNs and can be pruned with minimal impact on performance, which provides theoretical guidance for layer pruning. Multi-factorial optimization (MFO) is a popular optimization mechanism recently, which aims to optimize multiple tasks in a single run. Generally, the multi-factorial optimization algorithm uses the random learning strategy to generate offspring, which leads to an inefficient exploration ability of the algorithm. To address this problem, this paper proposed a simple and effective strategy called team learning strategy (TLS). The proposed learning strategy divided the population into excellent team and ordinary team. Different teams employ different learning strategies. Moreover, nine MFO problems were used to assess the effectiveness of the proposed strategy. The experimental results show that the team learning strategy can improve the performance of the algorithm.
