Aiming at the de-correlation effect of echo phase in frequency agile radar (FAR) and the range cell migration problem in long time integration, the Frequency Agile Coherent Radon Transform(FA-CRT) is proposed to realize long time coherent integration for FAR. Firstly, the FAR echo model of moving target is established. Secondly, the FA-CRT method is brought forth. Finally, a numerical experiment is designed to verify the performance of FA-CRT in long time coherent integration. © 2014 European Microwave Association.

Recently, there have been many studies on passive bistatic radar (PBR) based on civil illuminators of opportunity. In this paper, we investigate the feasibility of PBR using phased array radar (PAR) signal for moving vessel detection. We develop a low-cost experimental PBR system based on a high-power PAR with agile pulse-repetition-interval (PRI). Firstly, we use a Yagi antenna for receiving both the direct and scattered signal simultaneously, which guarantees the time synchronization and simplifies the PBR system. Then we propose a signal processing method for the PBR system. Finally, a field experiment is conducted in a harbor for the purpose of vessel detection, and the experimental results show that the PBR system using PAR as the transmitter is a feasible system and the proposed method is useful for moving vessel detection. © 2018 IEEE.

Clock jitter is one of the main elements affecting the SNR of acquired signal. Based on the noise model of normal distribution, this paper analyzes the influence of clock jitter on the SNR of ADC. Then, the effects of clock jitter on the mainlobe width and the PSLR of LFM-signal pulse compression are analyzed. The simulation results show that as the clock jitter increases, the mainlobe broadens and the noise floor increases. When the clock jitter is less than 0.2/B, the main lobe broadening and the PSLR deterioration are negligible. The results provide a reference for system design and device selection. © 2018 IEEE.

Radar imaging has been one of the basic functions for modern radar as well as searching, detection and tracking, especially for those ground-based space surveillance phased array radars. Due to the periodic revisiting characteristics of the in-orbit objects, multi-pass observations for space targets (e.g. satellites) within small pitching angle variation can be accumulated, which lead to the 3D inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) image formation. Consequently, the strategy of allocating the limited radar observation resource for a reliable 3D ISAR imaging result is becoming a fundamental but critical issue. In this letter, a sparse aperture based radar observation resource allocating method is proposed to facilitate the space target 3D ISAR imaging. According to the sparsity estimation of the target along the azimuth dimension, the required observation resource is calculated and assigned in accordance with the imaging task priority. Furthermore, the experimental boundary of the imaging performance with different signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) and pulse extraction rates are discussed in detail, which gives an intuitive guidance for the radar observation allocation under different application scenarios. The experimental results performed on simulated data validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2020 IEEE.

Existing multiple track initiation methods based on Hough Transform have flaws, such as huge computation load in dense clutter environment and performance degradation in measurement error. To improve those defects, we propose a robust Hough Transform-based track initiation method for multiple target tracking in dense clutter. The whole proposed method is divided into three steps. The first step is to screen data through the grid-based velocity test. The second step is to cluster the screened data into groups based on eight connectivity principle of grids. The last step is to respectively make Hough Transform on each group data to achieve track initiation. The experiment results illustrate the proposed algorithm outperforms traditional algorithms on Hough transform based track initiation. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Passive bistatic radars (PBR) using illuminators of opportunity have attracted much attention over the last years. However, most PBR systems have been rather experimental set-ups tailored to a single frequency band or implemented as laboratory test devices. In case of PBR exploiting transmitters for sources of illumination, there is a problem that radar transmitting signal parameters are unknown, and radar signal processing cannot be conducted accurately. This paper presents a study to demonstrate the feasibility of using a Digital Array Passive Bistatic Radar (DA-PBR) system in weak target detection. The design considerations and the resulting DA-PBR structure are described and the evaluations of various measurement campaigns with this system are summarized.

General clustering algorithm in coherent radar distance Doppler domain has several questions such as large amount of computation, inconsistent dimension, incorrect clustering and so on, thus this paper puts forward a dual-threshold clustering algorithm which is aided by amplitude. Firstly, detect the edge of the two-dimensional image of R-D and make data limit within local boundary. Then normalize R-D data. Finally, employing the amplitude information to aid Distance-Doppler information respectively proceed the first process of rough clustering and the second process of clustering. The algorithm can solve the problem of target amplitude rapid ups and downs and be applicable to all kinds of complex situations which targets coexist with interference. In addition, the algorithm does not require any priori information about the parameters, which is fit for applying to coherent radar. © 2013 IEEE.

In this paper, we present a novel hardware-efficient direction of arrival (DOA) estimation method based on digital channelized receiver. The proposed method splits the wideband array output into multiple frequency sub-channels and estimates the signal parameters using digital channelization receiver. Based on the accurate signal parameters estimation, signals with different bandwidths are isolated reasonably. Different DOA estimation methods are used to signals with different bandwidths. The proposed channelization based method can improve the output signal noise ratio (SNR). It outperforms those conventional DOA estimation methods on estimation accuracy, especially in real environment. Simulations are presented to demonstrate the performance. The results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2016 SPIE.

On the platform of Simulink, the library of radar standard blocks is built with the lower-level functions and system blocks. These blocks can be expanded to the library of Simulink after packaged. Connecting these blocks easily, users can quickly get the radar system they need. Taking the full coherent LFM pulse radar as an example, this paper gives a specific introduction for the establishment and packaging of the library of common radar standard blocks. It can be seen that, the blocks which has been built and packaged greatly reduced the complexity of the simulation of a radar system. © 2013 IEEE.

Aiming at the problem of multi-view high-resolution range profile (HRRP) target recognition under open set conditions, we proposed an open set recognition method based on joint sparse representation (JSR), which solves the problem of low recognition rate of traditional methods under open set conditions. This method is applied to the background of radar single-station observation. JSR is used to solve the reconstruction error of multi-view HRRP by the over-complete dictionary, while extreme value theory (EVT) is used to model the reconstruction error tailing of matching and non-matching categories and transform the open set identification problem into a hypothesis testing problem. During recognition, we use the reconstruction error to determine the candidate class, the scores of the matching class and non-matching class are obtained according to the confidence of tail distribution, and the weighted sum of the two is used as the category criterion to finally determine the target or candidate class outside the library. This method can effectively use the relevant information between multi-view HRRPs to improve the performance of HRRP recognition under open set conditions. The algorithm is tested with HRRP data generated from MSTAR inversion, and the results show that the performance of the proposed method is better than the mainstream open set recognition method. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
