Federated Learning (FL) allows edge devices (or clients) to keep data locally while simultaneously training a shared high-quality global model. However, current research is generally based on an assumption that the training data of local clients have ground-truth. Furthermore, FL faces the challenge of statistical heterogeneity, i.e., the distribution of the client's local training data is non-independent identically distributed (non-IID). In this paper, we present a robust semi-supervised FL system design, where the system aims to solve the problem of data availability and non-IID in FL. In particular, this paper focuses on studying the labels-at-server scenario where there is only a limited amount of labeled data on the server and only unlabeled data on the clients. In our system design, we propose a novel method to tackle the problems, which we refer to as Federated Mixing (FedMix). FedMix improves the naive combination of FL and semi-supervised learning methods and designs parameter decomposition strategies for disjointed learning of labeled, unlabeled data, and global models. To alleviate the non-IID problem, we propose a novel aggregation rule based on the frequency of the client's participation in training, namely the FedFreq aggregation algorithm, which can adjust the weight of the corresponding local model according to this frequency. Extensive evaluations conducted on CIFAR-10 dataset show that the performance of our proposed method is significantly better than those of the current baseline. It is worth noting that our system is robust to different non-IID levels of client data. © 2021 IEEE.

Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems (ICPS) integrating disciplines such as computer science, communication technology, and engineering, have become a crucial component of modern manufacturing and industry. However, ICPS faces numerous challenges during long-term operation, including equipment faults, performance degradation, and security threats, etc. To achieve efficient maintenance and management, prognostics and health management (PHM) has been widely applied in the critical tasks of ICPS such as fault prediction, health monitoring, and maintenance decision-making. The emergence of large-scale foundation models (LFMs) like BERT and GPT marks a significant advancement in artificial intelligence (AI) technology, demonstrating substantial application potential in multiple fields. The accumulation of AI technology, rapid development of LFMs, and the abundance of industrial data and industrial process knowledge provide the foundational conditions for the construction and advancement of industrial LFMs. However, there is currently a lack of consensus on applying LFMs of PHM in ICPS, necessitating a systematic review and roadmap to clarify future development directions. To bridge this gap, this survey provides a comprehensive survey and understanding of the recent advances in LFMs of PHM in ICPS. It provides valuable references for decision makers and researchers in the industry, and helps to further improve the reliability, availability and safety of ICPS. © 2023 IEEE.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a collection of interconnected devices that can be linked without the need for human interaction. IoT will have a significant impact on our lives in terms of economics, commerce, and society. IoT network nodes are typically resource-constrained, which makes them attractive targets for cyberattacks. However, due to the unique properties of IoT nodes, current solutions are insufficient to cover the complete security spectrum of IoT networks. A more intelligent IoT network security solution is required. Artificial intelligence is one of the most suited computing paradigms for providing embedded intelligence in IoT and is being used to address various security issues. To detect IoT cyber threats, we introduce a sparsity-enhanced convolutional neural network in this paper. Recently published IoT datasets are used for experiments. The proposed neural network is effective by experimental results and analysis.

Ensuring reliable communication can be incredibly challenging in emergencies due to the breakdown of conventional infrastructure. However, a promising solution is on the horizon: the integration of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) onto unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), known as UAV-RIS. This innovative approach holds the potential to offer agile and adaptable communication services during crises, overcoming the limitations of traditional systems. This paper establishes an innovative UAV-RIS system with an active RIS to enhance the uplink communication between ground devices (GDs) and the air base station (ABS). We present an advanced communication strategy utilizing deep reinforcement learning (DRL) for UAV-RIS-supported uplink communication in dynamic emergencies. This scheme is designed to optimize the energy efficiency of the UAV-RIS communication system while adhering to quality of service (QoS) constraints for all GDs. It achieves this by jointly optimizing the trajectory of the UAV-RIS and the phase of the active RIS, ensuring efficient and reliable communication in challenging environments. To optimize the performance of the system, we propose a hierarchical Proximal Policy Optimization (H-PPO) algorithm and the upper and lower layers of H-PPO optimize the trajectory and phase control, respectively. Simulation results demonstrate that our scheme can effectively learn the communication strategy to enhance the performance of dynamic emergency communication networks. © 2024 IEEE.

Human pose estimation has a wide range of applications in the field of computer vision, especially in sports event analysis where its importance is increasingly prominent. This study aims to optimize the basketball player detection model based on OpenPose, improving its performance in real-world scenarios. Firstly, we replace the VGG19 network in Openpose with a lightweight MobileNet structure to increase computational efficiency and reduce model parameters. Secondly, we introduce the Pyramid Spatial Attention (PSA) module into MobileNet to better capture local and global contextual information. Lastly, we adopt the Adaptive Wing Loss as the loss function, making the model more stable and accurate in localization. We pre-train the model on the COCO2017 dataset and conduct experiments on basketball player detection tasks. The experimental data show that, compared to the baseline model, our full model has significant improvements in Average Precision (AP), AP50, and running speed (FPS) metrics. Specifically, the full model achieves an AP of 70.0%, AP50 of 88.0%, and FPS of 41. The research results of this study can provide more accurate pose estimation information for basketball game analysis, contributing to the improvement of game strategy formulation and player performance evaluation.

Different with conventional reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS), simultaneous transmitting and reflecting RIS (STAR-RIS) can reflect and transmit the signals to the receiver. In this paper, to serve more ground users and increase the deployment flexibility, we investigate an unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with a STAR-RIS (STAR-RIS-UAV) aided wireless communications for multi-user networks. Energy splitting (ES) and mode switching (MS) protocols are considered to control the reflection and transmission coefficients of STAR-RIS elements. To maximize the sum rate of the STAR-RIS-UAV aided coordinated multipoint cellular system for multi-user networks, the corresponding beamforming vectors as well as transmitted and reflected coefficients matrices are optimized. Specifically, instead of adopting the alternating optimization, we design an iteration method to optimize all variables for both ES and MS protocols at the same time. Simulation results reveal that STAR-RIS-UAV aided wireless communication system has a much higher sum rate than the system with conventional RIS or without RIS. Furthermore, the proposed structure is more flexible than a fixed STAR-RIS and could greatly promote the sum rate. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A Multiple-Image Authentication Method Based on Phase-Only Hologram and Logistic Map

An interesting security method for multiple-image authentication scheme is proposed based on computer-generated holograms and logistic map. First, each original image is encoded as the complex-valued hologram under the point light source model. The resulting hologram is then converted to a phase-only hologram using the Floyd-Steinberg dithering algorithm. Second, each phase-only hologram is randomly sampled by the aid of a binary mask. Through the catenation of all selected pixels, a phase-only pixel sequence is formed. Finally, a non-periodic and non-converging sequence generated with logistic map is used to scramble this sequence. After only preserving the phase data of the scrambled sequence, the real-valued ciphertext carrying the information of all original images is obtained. In the process of authentication, although no valid information can be discerned from noisy reconstructed images at a small sampling rate, the verification of original images can be efficiently accomplished using the nonlinear correlation maps. Besides binary masks, the parameters of logistic map are served as secret keys. Due to their high sensitivity, the security of the proposed method is greatly enhanced. The proposed authentication mechanism has been demonstrated to be effective and robust through experiments. To our best knowledge, it is first time to implement multiple-image authentication using phase-only holograms, which can provide a new perspective for optical information security. © 2024, The Authors.
