A Ka-band quasi-elliptic bandpass filter (BPF) based on stereolithography apparatus (SLA) 3-D printing technique is proposed. The filter consists of four coupled resonators with three direct couplings between adjacent resonators and a cross coupling between the first and fourth resonators. Benefited from this feature, a pair of transmission zeros (TZs) can be produced in the stopband to enhance the passband selectivity significantly. Additionally, two waveguide bends are incorporated with the input and output waveguides to facilitate experimental test. For demonstration, a 3-D printed BPF prototype with center frequency of 30 GHz, bandwidth of 1.4 GHz, and return loss better than 20 dB is implemented and tested. The weight of the filter is 9.8 g only. The measured results demonstrate that the passband return loss is better than 10 dB, and the average in-band insertion loss is less than 2 dB.

Understanding the Dynamics of DNNs Using Graph Modularity

There are good arguments to support the claim that deep neural networks (DNNs) capture better feature representations than the previous hand-crafted feature engineering, which leads to a significant performance improvement. In this paper, we move a tiny step towards understanding the dynamics of feature representations over layers. Specifically, we model the process of class separation of intermediate representations in pre-trained DNNs as the evolution of communities in dynamic graphs. Then, we introduce modularity, a generic metric in graph theory, to quantify the evolution of communities. In the preliminary experiment, we find that modularity roughly tends to increase as the layer goes deeper and the degradation and plateau arise when the model complexity is great relative to the dataset. Through an asymptotic analysis, we prove that modularity can be broadly used for different applications. For example, modularity provides new insights to quantify the difference between feature representations. More crucially, we demonstrate that the degradation and plateau in modularity curves represent redundant layers in DNNs and can be pruned with minimal impact on performance, which provides theoretical guidance for layer pruning. Multi-factorial optimization (MFO) is a popular optimization mechanism recently, which aims to optimize multiple tasks in a single run. Generally, the multi-factorial optimization algorithm uses the random learning strategy to generate offspring, which leads to an inefficient exploration ability of the algorithm. To address this problem, this paper proposed a simple and effective strategy called team learning strategy (TLS). The proposed learning strategy divided the population into excellent team and ordinary team. Different teams employ different learning strategies. Moreover, nine MFO problems were used to assess the effectiveness of the proposed strategy. The experimental results show that the team learning strategy can improve the performance of the algorithm.

This paper presents a dual mode passive radar with alternative localization mechanisms of time difference of arrival (TDOA)-direction of arrival (DOA) mode and multi-TDOA mode. For demonstration and validation, a high-performance testbed is needed with the characteristics of wide dynamic range, multichannel, time-frequency synchronization and flexible local oscillator mechanism. To realize these features, an Ettus X310 universal software radio peripheral (USRP) is utilized for integration in the passive radar hardware platform. Processing algorithms for the multi-channel signals acquired by the X310 is implemented in real-time with the graphics processing unit (GPU) embedded in a server computer. Outdoor detections of small unmanned aerial vehicle with the dual mode operation of the testbed show a meter-level accuracy.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) offer a promising solution for enhancing network coverage, reliability, and data speed in future wireless network generations. However, deploying UAVs as aerial base stations requires careful consideration of crucial design factors, including three-dimensional (3D) placement and performance optimization tailored to specific applications. In this paper, the 3D placement of multiple UAVs, acting as aerial base stations, is investigated in a dynamic user scenario. First, a closed-form expression for the coverage probability is derived. Then, to maximize the network coverage and sum rate while ensuring reliable and energy efficient system, a joint multi-objective optimization problem is formulated considering the real-time user movements. To solve the problem, an improved Chaos-based Bonobo Optimizer (CBO) scheme is proposed which combines chaotic maps with the Bonobo Optimizer (BO) algorithm. The obtained results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed approach compared with different benchmark algorithms. The results reveal that the proposed CBO algorithm offers a minimum of $\mathbf{1 5 \%}$ and $\mathbf{9 0} \mathbf{~ M b i t / s ~ i m p r o v e m e n t s ~}$ in coverage and sum rate, respectively.

Underwater acoustic (UWA) channel is a triple-selective fading channel in time, space and frequency as a result of its lower sound speed and its complicated boundaries in the ocean. It is very difficult to realize a successful classification of the communication signal modulation within a single feature in such harsh channel. The feature extraction is much more sensitive to the environmental parameters and signals. In this paper, an automatic modulation classification (AMC) system based on machine learning is established in order to improve the correction rate of AMC for the several common modulation types. In the case of extracting the feature, the machine learning algorithms, including Support Vector Machine (SVM), k-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Classification and Regression Tree (CART) are adopted. The performance comparison of these three algorithms is implemented through the simulation data analysis, which would denote how the UWA multipath channel, the signal noise ratio (SNR) affects the performance of the proposed system.

Morse communication is widely used in the field of land, water and air transportation and military communication, and especially plays a great role in military communication as a necessary means. Morse signals have noise interference inevitably in the process of HF channel transmission. Because of the noise has greatly harmed to human body, it increases the Labor intensity of copy personnel, especially for that long time engaged in HF Morse copy work. To solve the problem that receiving of Morse signals requires manual operation, this paper presents a solution to automatically detect Morse signals with a wideband receiver. The solution features equipment miniaturization, enables Morse signals to be received in full frequency and time domain and gets rid of manual work. It also allows real-time access to the situation of HF Morse signals.

Medical Body Area Networks (MBANs) increasingly utilize wireless communication technologies to enhance the freedom and convenience for patients and caregivers. Currently, radio frequency (RF) is the prevalent medium in healthcare applications; however, the potential for electromagnetic interference with precision medical equipment remains a concern. This study introduces a novel design and implementation of a medical healthcare information system using the newly developed Wireless Visible Light communication (VLC) technology, also known as Light Fidelity (Li-Fi). Visible Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), expected to soon surpass traditional incandescent and fluorescent bulbs as the primary light source due to their energy efficiency, facilitate this technology. In this research, patient health is monitored using sensors, with results displayed on an LCD. An LED lightbulb transmits the data as light signals, which are captured by a photo-detector at the receiver's end. This setup not only displays the output on an LCD but also alerts caregivers through an auditory signal, beeping every 15 seconds for respiration and every 30 seconds for heart rate monitoring. Moreover, these lighting fixtures serve dual functions: illumination and wireless data transmission, using the rapid switching capability of LEDs. This prototype VLC-based system offers a promising alternative for data services and monitoring in hospital areas where RF use is restricted.

Federated learning (FL) and split learning (SL) are prevailing distributed paradigms in recent years. They both enable shared global model training while keeping data localized on users' devices. The former excels in parallel execution capabilities, while the latter enjoys low dependence on edge computing resources and strong privacy protection. Split federated learning (SFL) combines the strengths of both FL and SL, making it one of the most popular distributed architectures. Furthermore, a recent study has claimed that SFL exhibits robustness against poisoning attacks, with a fivefold improvement compared to FL in terms of robustness. In this paper, we present a novel poisoning attack known as MISA. It poisons both the top and bottom models, causing a misalignment in the global model, ultimately leading to a drastic accuracy collapse. This attack unveils the vulnerabilities in SFL, challenging the conventional belief that SFL is robust against poisoning attacks. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed MISA poses a significant threat to the availability of SFL, underscoring the imperative for academia and industry to accord this matter due attention. Aiming at the problems of traditional beamforming algorithms that require a two-dimensional angle search for two-dimensional DOA estimation using rectangular arrays, which takes a long time, this paper provides a dimensionality reduction method through theoretical derivation and numerical calculation. This method uses coordinate conversion and secondary optimization, successively calculates the angle of the target relative to the X and Y axes, and combines the idea of least squares to finally calculate the azimuth and elevation angle of the target, turning the two-dimensional problem into a one-dimensional search, which greatly reduces the amount of calculation. The simulation results show that the angle estimation accuracy of this method is equivalent to that of the traditional MUSIC method, but its algorithm complexity and calculation time are reduced a lot, which is very suitable for engineering applications. © 2020 IEEE.
