Quantum criticality at the origin of life

Why life persists at the edge of chaos is a question at the very heart of evolution. Here we show that molecules taking part in biochemical processes from small molecules to proteins are critical quantum mechanically. Electronic Hamiltonians of biomolecules are tuned exactly to the critical point of the metal-insulator transition separating the Anderson localized insulator phase from the conducting disordered metal phase. Using tools from Random Matrix Theory we confirm that the energy level statistics of these biomolecules show the universal transitional distribution of the metal-insulator critical point and the wave functions are multifractals in accordance with the theory of Anderson transitions. The findings point to the existence of a universal mechanism of charge transport in living matter. The revealed bio-conductor material is neither a metal nor an insulator but a new quantum critical material which can exist only in highly evolved systems and has unique material properties.

The load balancing problem is becoming the main technical obstacle in HLA distributed simulation development with the increasing scale of distributed simulation system. The solution of task-federate mapping and federate-processor mapping used to be determined based on experiences and the entity is taken as a task granularity in simulations in order to simplify the model in previous studies. Neither the experience methods nor the previous studies could solve the huge communication overhead or load imbalance problem effectively in large scale distributed simulation. The static load balancing optimization of HLA distributed simulation is divided into task-federate mapping and federate-processor mapping, and a two-stage mapping allocation optimization method is proposed in this paper. Decreasing communication overhead of the system is the main mission in the task-federate mapping stage and the load balancing is studied in the federate allocation stage. The effectiveness of the proposed method, which developed a new direction for static load balancing distribution optimization in distributed simulations, is verified with experiments.

Absorption loss which is an important characteristic in the field of underwater acoustic, caused by sea water is often neglected in the research on the coverage area of bistatic sonar, in this article, the coverage area of bistatic sonar considering absorption loss is studied. When multistatic sonar works in different modes, detection criterion varies, so the coverage area can't be considered as the direct sum of coverage area of each bistatic sonar unit. This article discussed the coverage area respect to the most relaxed criterion and the most strict criterion.

Big data processing is receiving significant amount of interest as an important technology to reveal the information behind the data, such as trends, characteristics, etc. MapReduce is considered as the most efficient distributed parallel data processing framework. However, some high-end applications, especially some scientific analyses have both data-intensive and computation-intensive features. Current big data processing techniques like Hadoop are not designed for computation-intensive applications, thus have insufficient computation power. In this paper, we presented Lit, a high performance massive data computing framework based on CPU/GPU cluster. Lit integrated GPU with Hadoop to improve the computational power of each node in the cluster. Since the architecture and programming model of GPU is different from CPU, Lit provided an annotation based approach to automatically generate CUDA codes from Hadoop codes. Lit hided the complexity of programming on CPU/GPU cluster by providing extended compiler and optimizer. To utilize the simplified programming, scalability and fault tolerance benefits of Hadoop and combine them with the high performance computation power of GPU, Lit extended the Hadoop by applying a GPUClassloader to detect the GPU, generate and compile CUDA codes, and invoke the shared library. Our experimental results show that Lit can achieve an average speedup of 1x to 3x on three typical applications over Hadoop.

The passive target tracking problem of multi-sonar belongs to nonlinear problem, and the background noise is not guass noise entirely, so a kind of filtering method which suit for nonlinear and non-guassian system of is needed. In this paper, the interacting multiple model particle filter which combined by particle filter and interacting multiple model is applied in tracking maneuvering target. Combing the particle filter's ability of disposing nonlinear and non-guass problem and the IMM's ability of tracking target's arbitrary maneuvering, the difficulty that traditional filter encounters in tracking maneuvering target under the circumstance of nonlinear and non-guassian can be solved. The interacting multiple model particle filter is simulated in two different model set, the results indicate that, under the case of model matching, this method has good ability in tracking the maneuvering target of nonlinear and non-guassian system.

In order to enable the Web data to be applied in a non-Internet environment, overcoming the timeliness of Web data, this study proposes a domain Web data standardization organization method. The domain Web standardization organization framework is established and the acquired data are divided into three categories: Structured, un-structured and semi-structured. With respect to the semi-structured data within an implicit scheme, we use a rational code design to transform semi-structured data into structured data. Combining file system and relational database, a standardization organization method is established for the three types of data. Experimental results show that this method is effective and efficient. ©2013 Asian Network for Scientific Information.

So, we need first to analysis the demand and conceptual of complex land system, then, we can develop the simulation test system for land complex system which has architecture combat, semi-physical simulation, and engineer compute ability to meet the requirement of the land complex system simulation test. The major point of this paper is to put forward the conceptual model of the land complex land system test and build the architecture of the simulation test environment.

The conceptual model is the first time abstraction ceptual model description method based on the UML and the of the real world. The traditional con- text usually has the semantic ambiguity problem. The formal description method lacks the mechanism of integrity and consistency check. Therefore both of them cannot support the simulation scenario description and the model compos- ability. A simulation conceptual description method based on ontology is put forward. According to the OWL language which was put forward by the W3C organization, a conceptual model description language is established. The OWL language semantic element in the description function in the mili- tary conceptual model is introduced. Then two layers of the military conceptual model framework are built up based on the general ontology and the domain ontology. In the general ontology, the class and property definition are given. While in the domain ontology, they are extended and a relat- ed example is given. The technique advantages of our method include the mechanism of conceptual model consistency and integrity check, the support of composable simulation models, and automatic creation of simulation scenario.

complexity in System of systems (SoS) is a key factor in SoS decision making. This paper analyzes the main characteristics of SoS, especially its complexity in terms of monolithic emergence, component systems adaption and uncertainty in SoS evolution. It further discusses the effects of SoS complexity on SoS decision making. In light of SoS complexity, the paper figures out the major problems that need to be addressed in four areas, namely SoS adaption, abnormity analysis in SoS evolution, exploratory analysis of SoS capability and SoS simulation. In conclusion the paper proposes a preliminary SoS decision making model based on the analysis of SoS adaption. © 2012 IEEE.
