The article puts focus on the the problem of performance assessment for UAV formation with leader-following structure and switching communication topology in the presence of unknown exogenous perturbations. First, two time-varying indicators are devised on the basis of the regulated outputs of the followers. Then, a trainable performance assessment model is constructed by means of belief rule base expert system (BRB) with the two time-varying indicators as the inputs and the assessment utility as the final output. At last, relevant simulation experiments are conducted to validate the practicability of the established performance assessment model for leader-following UAV formation subject to switching communication topology and unknown external perturbations.

The electric unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are rapidly growing due to their abilities to perform some difficult or dangerous tasks as well as many public services including real-time monitoring, wireless coverage, search and rescue, wildlife surveys, and precision agriculture. However, the electrochemical power supply system of UAV is a critical issue in terms of its energy/power densities and lifetime for service endurance. In this paper, the current power supply systems used in UAVs are comprehensively reviewed and analyzed on the existing power configurations and the energy management systems. It is identified that a single type of electrochemical power source is not enough to support a UAV to achieve a long-haul flight;hence, a hybrid power system architecture is necessary. To make use of the advantages of each type of power source to increase the endurance and achieve good performance of the UAVs, the hybrid systems containing two or three types of power sources (fuel cell,battery, solar cell, and supercapacitor,) have to be developed. In this regard, the selection of an appropriate hybrid power structure with the optimized energy management system is critical for the efficient operation of a UAV. It is found that the data-driven models with artificial intelligence (AI) are promising in intelligent energy management. This paper can provide insights and guidelines for future research and development into the design and fabrication of the advanced UAV power systems.

Underdetermined 2D-DOD and 2D-DOA Estimation for Bistatic Coprime EMVS-MIMO Radar: From the Difference Coarray Perspective

In this paper, the underdetermined 2D-DOD and 2D-DOA estimation for bistatic coprime EMVSMIMO radar is considered. Firstly, a 5-D tensor model was constructed by using the multi-dimensional space-time characteristics of the received data. Then, an 8-D tensor has been obtained by using the auto-correlation calculation. To obtain the difference coarrays of transmit and receive EMVS, the decoupling process between the spatial response of EMVS and the steering vector is inevitable. Thus, a new 6-D tensor can be constructed via the tensor permutation and the generalized tensorization of the canonical polyadic decomposition. According to the theory of the Tensor-Matrix Product operation, the duplicated elements in the difference coarrays can be removed by the utilization of two designed selection matrices. Due to the centrosymmetric geometry of the difference coarrays, two DFT beamspace matrices were subsequently designed to convert the complex steering matrices into the real-valued ones, whose advantage is to improve the estimation accuracy of the 2D-DODs and 2D-DOAs. Afterwards, a third-order tensor with the third-way fixed at 36 was constructed and the Parallel Factor algorithm was deployed, which can yield the closed-form automatically paired 2D-DOD and 2D-DOA estimation. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can exhibit superior estimation performance for the underdetermined 2D-DOD and 2D-DOA estimation. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. Delamination of an Elastic Cuboid from a Flat Rigid Substrate

Due to their strong pull-off force on noncooperative objects, dry adhesive materials have promising applications in gecko-mimicking robots and mechanical grippers. Previous experimental studies have shown that uniform interfacial stress and center delamination are favorable for achieving a high pull-off force;however, an in-depth understanding of interfacial stress distribution, delamination mode, and pull-off force of square cross-section elastomers is lacking. The square cross-section is expected to improve the packing ratio and pull-off force further. This paper studies a model system where an elastic square cuboid is detached from a flat rigid substrate to provide theoretical support for the design of adhesive materials. Based on elastomers' energy release rate and instability, we establish a three-dimensional model for the elastic square cuboid and analyze the mechanism of three delamination modes: edge delamination, center delamination, and cavity delamination. Furthermore, a new theoretical model for the pull-off force and phase diagram of the various delamination modes is developed. We found three subdivision crack patterns in the cuboid edge delamination mode, arc-shaped, fingering, and rhombus, which are different from the cylinder sample. Fingering cracks of cylinder samples are usually considered characteristics of elastic instability, but those of cuboid samples cannot be defined as elastic instability. The three edge crack patterns are gradually transformed, determined by the interfacial stress distribution, which is affected by the sample width-to-thickness ratio. The following results are obtained by combining the experimental and theoretical pull-off forces and phase diagram data. First, the interfacial stress distribution determines the pull-off force, and the delamination mode is an index to judge the stress distribution. In order to study changes in the effectiveness of reconnaissance satellite system (RSS) in supporting maritime operations, based on the key factors of dynamic confrontation system of the offensive and defensive parties, the feedback relationships between variables are analyzed. According to the feedback relationship, a system dynamics (SD) model based on Lanchester equation was established and simulated on the VENSIM platform to compare and analyze operational effectiveness of different RSS allocation schemes. Simulation analysis shows that RSS can increase the rate of detection and acquisition of information and accelerate the loss of the enemy. At the same time, when the sensor parameters are similar, increasing the number of weapons can significantly reduce the loss, which provides a certain theoretical support for decision-making analysis in combat.

A decoupled control approach based on linear active disturbance rejection control idea is proposed. The plant model, in which the coupling dynamics is as a part of disturbance, is established, and some virtual control variables are defined. Thus the original coupling plant is divided into some single-input single-output systems and the virtual control variables are willing to be determined by linear active disturbance rejection control method, and the real control variables are easily solved from virtual control variables according to their relationship. The approach is employed to a hypersonic near space vehicle lateral autopilot. The numerical simulations show that the proposed approach has good decoupling effectiveness and guarantees angle command signal tracking accuracy. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In public roads, autonomous vehicles (AVs) face the challenge of frequent interactions with human-driven vehicles (HDVs), which render uncertain driving behavior due to varying social characteristics among humans. To effectively assess the risks prevailing in the vicinity of AVs in social interactive traffic scenarios and achieve safe autonomous driving, this article proposes a social-suitable and safety-sensitive trajectory planning (S4TP) framework. Specifically, S4TP integrates the Social-Aware Trajectory Prediction (SATP) and Social-Aware Driving Risk Field (SADRF) modules. SATP utilizes Transformers to effectively encode the driving scene and incorporates an AV’s planned trajectory during the prediction decoding process. SADRF assesses the expected surrounding risk degrees during AVs-HDVs interactions, each with different social characteristics, visualized as two-dimensional heat maps centered on the AV. SADRF models the driving intentions of the surrounding HDVs and predicts trajectories based on the representation of vehicular interactions. S4TP employs an optimization-based approach for motion planning, utilizing the predicted HDVs’ trajectories as input. With the integration of SADRF, S4TP executes real-time online optimization of the planned trajectory of AV within low-risk regions, thus improving the safety and the interpretability of the planned trajectory. We have conducted comprehensive tests of the proposed method using the SMARTS simulator. Experimental results in complex social scenarios, such as unprotected left-turn intersections, merging, cruising, and overtaking, validate the superiority of our proposed S4TP in terms of safety and rationality. S4TP achieves a pass rate of 100% across all scenarios, surpassing the current state-of-the-art methods Fanta of 98.25% and Predictive-Decision of 94.75%. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. We present a dual-flow network for autonomous driving using an attention *** model incorporates (i) The perception network extracts RGB images from the video at low speed as input and fulfills the feature extraction of the images. (ii) Motion network obtains grayscale map from video at high speed as input to complete object motion feature extraction. (iii) the perception and motion networks are fused using an attention mechanism at each feature layer to complete the waypoint *** model is trained and tested using the CARLA simulator and enables autonomous driving in complex urban environments with a success rate of 74%, especially in the case of multiple dynamic objects. © 2022, The Authors. Organic coatings are the most widely employed approach for the promotion of corrosion resistance of magnesium(Mg)***,traditional organic coatings are weakly bonded to Mg substrates due to physical ***,a polyethylacrylate(PEA)coating was fabricated on Mg-Zn-YNd alloy via *** surface structure and chemical composition were characterized by means of scanning electron microscope(SEM),energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS),atomic force microscope(AFM)and Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)as well as time of flight-secondary ion mass spectrometer(To F-SIMS).The results showed that the surface roughness of PEA coating was dominated by scan rate;while the coverage and integrity of PEA coating were mainly affected by the monomer concentration and sweep *** F-SIMS results indicated that PEA coating was wholly covered on Mg alloy,and the presence of C2H3Mg-fragment confirmed the covalent bond between PEA coating and Mg *** addition,DFT calculation results of the adsorption of EA molecules with Mg substrate agree well with the experimental phenomena and observation,suggesting that the electrons in 3s orbit of Mg atoms and 2pz orbit of C1 atom participated in the formation of covalent bond between PEA coating and Mg *** polarization curves and immersion test demonstrated that the PEA coatings could effectively enhance the corrosion resistance of Mg *** platelet adhesion results designated that platelets were barely visible on PEA coating,which implied that PEA coating could effectively prevent the thrombosis and coagulation of *** coating might be a promising candidate coating of Mg alloy for cardiovascular stent.
