Micro-assembly is an emerging method to fabricate microrobots with multiple modules or particles. However, there is always a lack of a flexible and efficient method to freely create the desired magnetic soft microrobots. In this paper, an automated assembly system based on a two-fingered microhand is presented for fabricating magnetic soft microrobots. Our proposed system can automatically pick and place components to assemble microrobots with a two-fingered micromanipulator, and orient these components through an external magnetic field. The automated assembly has the advantages of high accuracy, high speed, and high success rate. It can endow magnetic microrobots with flexible material selection, arbitrary geometry design, and programable magnetization profile. We can make full use of this system to fabricate multiple magnetic soft microrobots. The experiment results demonstrate that this system can efficiently fabricate microrobots with excellent mechanical properties, which have application potential in robotics, biomedical engineering, and environmental governance.

Despite great achievement has been made in autonomous driving technologies, autonomous vehicles (AVs) still exhibit limitations in intelligence and lack social coordination, which is primarily attributed to their reliance on single-agent technologies, neglecting inter-AV interactions. Current research on multi-agent autonomous driving (MAAD) predominantly focuses on either distributed individual learning or centralized cooperative learning, ignoring the mixed-motive nature of MAAD systems, where each agent is not only self-interested in reaching its own destination but also needs to coordinate with other traffic participants to enhance efficiency and safety. Inspired by the mixed motivation of human driving behavior and their learning process, we propose a novel mixed motivation driven social multi-agent reinforcement learning method for autonomous driving. In our method, a multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) algorithm, called Social Learning Policy Optimization (SoLPO), which takes advantage of both the individual and social learning paradigms, is proposed to empower agents to rapidly acquire self-interested policies and effectively learn socially coordinated behavior. Based on the proposed SoLPO, we further develop a mixed-motive MARL method for autonomous driving combined with a social reward integration module that can model the mixed-motive nature of MAAD systems by integrating individual and neighbor rewards into a social learning objective for improved learning speed and effectiveness. Experiments conducted on the MetaDrive simulator show that our proposed method outperforms existing state-of-the-art MARL approaches in metrics including the success rate, safety, and efficiency. More-over, the AVs trained by our method form coordinated social norms and exhibit human-like driving behavior, demonstrating a high degree of social coordination.

Cooperative trajectory planning algorithm of USV-UAV with hull dynamic constraints

Efficient trajectory generation in complex dynamic environments remains an open problem in the unmanned surface vehicle (USV). The perception of the USV is usually interfered with by the swing of the hull and the ambient weather, making it challenging to plan the optimal USV trajectories. In this paper, a cooperative trajectory planning algorithm for the coupled USV-UAV system is proposed to ensure that USV can execute a safe and smooth path in the process of autonomous advance in multi-obstacle maps. Specifically, the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) plays the role of a flight sensor, providing real-time global map and obstacle information with a lightweight semantic segmentation network and 3D projection transformation. And then, an initial obstacle avoidance trajectory is generated by a graph-based search method. Concerning the unique under-actuated kinematic characteristics of the USV, a numerical optimization method based on hull dynamic constraints is introduced to make the trajectory easier to be tracked for motion control. Finally, a motion control method based on NMPC with the lowest energy consumption constraint during execution is proposed. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of the whole system, and the generated trajectory is locally optimal for USV with considerable tracking accuracy. © 2022, CC BY.

Role of Black Carbon in Modulating Aerosol Direct Effects Driven by Air Pollution Controls During 2013-2017 in China

Aerosol direct effects (ADEs) can modulate shortwave radiation as well as atmospheric dynamics and air quality. As the key absorbing component of aerosol, the black carbon (BC) largely determines the aerosol optical properties. Therefore, it is expected that BC emission controls might gain co-benefits from the simultaneous reduction of ADEs. To demonstrate such synergy, we quantified the ADEs changes and role of BC controls in China during 2013-2017 using a regional two-way coupled meteorology chemistry transport model. Results suggest that the control action effectively reduced wintertime PM2.5 concentration (-26.0 μg m-3) and associated ADEs. The influence of ADEs on surface shortwave radiation, 2-meter temperature, and planetary boundary layer height was weakened from -16.7 W m-2, -0.20°C, and -15.4 m in 2013 to -11.3 W m-2, -0.06°C, and -10.7 m in 2017, respectively. The enhancement of SO2, NO2, and PM2.5 concentrations due to ADEs was reduced from +3.1%, +5.2%, and +5.4% in 2013, to +2.6%, +4.5%, and +3.3% in 2017, respectively, demonstrating the extra benefit of air pollution controls by reducing ADEs. The BC emission reduced by 12.5% simultaneously along with the effective controls during 2013-2017. Such BC controls contributes 15.6-60.2% of such changes in the ADEs influence on meteorological variables, and 32.6-41.1% on air pollutants. More specially, the effectiveness of collaborative reduction of BC further reduced surface shortwave radiation in China by 3.6 W m-2 in January and 1.0 W m-2 in July, leading to a more weakened ADEs that bring extra benefits in reducing PM2.5 concentrations by 1.8 μg m-3 in January and 0.3 μg m-3 in July. Apparently, BC played a dominant role in modulating the ADEs and associated influences on meteorology and air quality, suggesting a wise control strategy by targeting absorbing component of PM2.5 reduction to address both air pollution and climate change in the future. © 2022, The Authors. Medical diagnosing systems contain sensitive information, especially the resulting certificate of diagnosis that involves the patient’s privacy, required to be protected carefully. An effective way is to secretly embed privacy-sensitive information into medical-generated images, eventually being viewed as arbitrary images of nobody/nothing in public. The current research line of medical steganography targets simple data-hiding methods, yet remains barren in optimal embedding and stronger robustness. To fill this gap, we propose an end-to-end steganographic framework for medical images. Our idea is to integrate medical-image adaptive steganography with a generative adversarial network (GAN), named MedSteGAN. To improve both robustness, we design an optimized U-shape gen- erator that extracts features more efficiently utilizing larger kernel convolutions and the ReLU6 function. Also, deconvolutions are replaced by upsampling and convolution layers to avoid the checkerboard effect. To enhance security and image quality, we employ visual quality loss and mean squared error (MSE) loss based on the multi-scale structural similarity index metric (MS- SSIM) and the high-pass filters, respectively. Extensive experiments demonstrate that MedSteGAN outperforms state-of-the-art steganographic schemes in terms of robustness and image quality. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Uncertainty is an inherent attribute of a simulation system which causes inconsistency between the predicated result of the system and its actual result,affecting the robustness and reliability of the *** on analysis of the uncertainty characteristics of the hardware-in-loop(HWIL) system of an aircraft,a framework of uncertainty measurement and analysis is proposed for the HWIL system,and three types of methods are studied which are suitable for measuring the randomness,cognition,and hybrid uncertainties of the HWIL *** a typical simulation object,various methods of measuring uncertainty are investigated,with their effectiveness validated,which lays the ground for further studying the influence of the uncertainty measurement result on the system.

Flexible air-breathing hypersonic vehicles have very wide range of flight and show significant and complex aerodynamic, scramjet propulsion system, flight dynamic and elastic coupling characteristics, which usually are highly nonlinear. These result in huge uncertainties, parameter perturbation and internal disturbance, which can no longer be ignored, and therefore, extreme difficulties for flight control design. A unique parameter adaptive nonsingular terminal sliding mode method is proposed for longitudinal control law design of a flexible coupling air-breathing hypersonic vehicle. Other than conventional adaptive terminal sliding mode control, this method uses adaptive reaching law gain instead of additional adaptive compensation term to handle the uncertainty to improve robustness. The stability of the close loop system is proved via a Lyapunov way. The longitudinal tracking control law for velocity and angle of attack is designed based on a rigid dynamic model of a flexible air-breathing hypersonic vehicle. A strong coupling model of this vehicle, considering aerodynamic-scramjet engine-flight dynamic-elastic couplings, is established as the verification platform of control law designed. The remarkable differences of flight dynamics characteristics between this strong coupling model and the rigid body model can be seen, which mean the controller needs to endure very great uncertainty, unmodeled dynamics and other internal disturbance. Simulation based on the coupling model is carried on and results demonstrate that the control law designed has good performance and acceptable robustness. © 2020, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. Dynamic optimization for hypersonic reentry vehicle(HRV) is a challenge for complex nonlinear constraints during a global strike *** to the strong nonlinearity of HRV,it is difficult to guarantee the precision of complex constraints on non-collocation points with traditional Gauss pseudospectral method(GPM).A novel approach which provides an optimal control strategy considering the above challenges is then ***,an adaptive mesh refinement strategy based on curvature information is presented to improve the accuracy of GPM.A collocation point redistribution method based on error analysis is then proposed to further improve the accuracy of the ***,a detection mechanism is proposed to correct the results on-line when the path constraint is not *** proposed approaches are finally applied to a classic HRV problem and compared with other literature work in *** research results validate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

In this paper, an autonomous positioning method based on coarse-to-fine multi-modal image matching is proposed for UAV navigation in GPS denied environment. Coarse image matching refers to roughly determining the approximate position of the real-time image in the reference image. Fine image matching refers to iterative matching around the position obtained by coarse image matching to achieve more accurate matching results. Besides, RANSAC is adopted to eliminate the outliers of image matching. After getting the result of image matching, we use PNP to estimate the position of the aircraft. The proposed position method has the advantages of high accuracy and reliability. The experimental results show that the average error of the position of the proposed method is 59%.
