In this paper, a multi-kernel principal component analysis (MKPCA) method for quality-related fault detection is proposed. The initial space is firstly mapped to a new space. The correlated information between the new space and output quality is then obtained by the kernel function. Meanwhile, with consideration of the advantage of global function and local function, a weight factor which combines them together is introduced to construct a multi-kernel function. In this way, the algorithm achieves better learning ability. The new space is projected to two mutually orthogonal subspaces, i.e., quality-related part and quality-unrelated part. In each subspace, fault information is expressed by different statistical indicators. The numerical example is presented to evaluate the performance of the MKPCA. The results show better reliability and high fault detection rate through proper spatial decomposition and kernel function construction.

This paper develops a deep learning-based system for the dimension measurement of industrial parts. The system employs a general self-supervised image segmentation network to perform dichotomous image segmentation (DIS) on the parts, effectively extracting binary images of the target components from complex backgrounds without requiring preprocessing steps such as filtering or denoising. Following segmentation, contour detection, and dimension measurement are executed. The system utilizes a CMOS area scan camera and was tested on a computer equipped with a GTX1050 graphics card. The tests, conducted on two typical thrust ball bearing components (i.e., the ball retainer and the shaft ring) ü yielded ten measurements per part. Comparison with a vernier caliper as the reference standard reveals that under normal operating conditions, the maximum standard deviation is 0.007 mm and the maximum absolute error is 0.017 mm. © 2024 IEEE.

Natural antibacterial membranes prepared using Schisandra chinensis extracts and polyvinyl alcohol in an environment-friendly manner

Foodborne pathogens can cause food spoilage and lead to food safety issues. In recent years, food packaging has received a lot of attention. Traditional packaging membranes are non-biodegradable and remain in the environment for a long time. In this study, natural antimicrobial substances were extracted from Schisandra chinensis by a green extraction process using distilled water as the solvent, and the effects of different treatment on the antimicrobial activity of the extract were compared. At the same time, four types of Schisandra chinensis antimicrobial membranes were prepared using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as the substrate. The whole extraction and membrane preparation process did not involve organic solvents, making the process green and environment friendly. Material characterization included inverted biological microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), tensile strength test, pore size measurement, water uptake test, etc. Among them, no extract particles were observed with the naked eye on the surfaces of MⅡ and MⅣ. MⅡ has a uniformly transparent, nearly colorless morphology and is the most tensile. MⅣ surface is flat and smooth, the microstructure is dense and uniform. At the same time, the four types of membranes were tested against common pathogenic bacteria for 12 h, and the OD600 trend revealed the excellent antimicrobial activity of the membranes against S. aureus, MRSA, E. coli, and L. monocytogenes. The membranes could also be reused at least once. This study provides a new idea for preparing natural plant-based antimicrobial membranes. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

In this paper, according to the different dynamic models of the support phase and the swing phase, the joint torque compensation of the support phase and the swing phase are given to compensate the joint torque of the hydraulic quadruped robot controlled by the virtual model control(VMC). This compensation can increase the tracking effect of the foot end on the swing trajectory, reduce the elasticity and damping coefficient of the virtual model method, and increase the flexibility of the leg. Then this paper establishes the touchdown detection function based on the joint torque obtained by the Lagrange dynamics equation and the joint torque obtained by the force sensor to determine the touch state of the foot of the quadruped robot to switch the phase of the leg. At the end of this paper, simulation and experiment prove that the compensation model and touchdown detection function model have feasibility and correctness.

This paper introduces an adaptive robust control approach tailored for underactuated mechanical systems encountering matched and mismatched uncertainty, employing a constraint-following methodology. The control strategy unfolds in two phases: initially, a nominal control scheme is devised neglecting uncertainty and deviations in initial conditions from constraints. Subsequently, uncertainty is categorized into matched and mismatched components, ensuring that mismatched uncertainties remain unobservable. Leveraging the structural characteristics of the uncertainty bound, a novel segmented adaptive law is proposed and seamlessly integrated into the adaptive robust control framework. By employing the Lyapunov minimax approach, the method ensures uniform boundedness and uniform ultimate boundedness simultaneously, thereby ensuring approximate adherence to constraints for underactuated mechanical systems facing both matched and mismatched uncertainties alongside initial condition deviations.

In recent years, computer vision applied in industrial application scenarios has been attracting attention. A lot of work has been made to present approaches based on visual perception, ensuring the safety during the processes of industrial production. However, much less effort has been done to assess the perceptual quality of corrupted industrial images. In this paper, we construct an Industrial Scene Image Database (ISID), which contains 3000 distorted images generated through applying different levels of distortion types to each of the 50 source images. Then, the subjective experiment is carried out to gather the subjective scores in a well-controlled laboratory environment. Finally, we perform comparison experiments on ISID database to investigate the performance of some objective image quality assessment algorithms. The experimental results show that the state-of-the-art image quality assessment methods have difficulty in predicting the quality of images that contain multiple distortion types. © 2022, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Micromanipulation techniques that can achieve controlled fine operations at the micro scale play an important role in biomedical fields including embryo engineering, gene engineering, drug screening, and cell analysis. However, micromanipulation of biological micro-objects, such as cells and micro tissues, suffers from mechanical damage and low efficiency. Several techniques have been introduced to manipulate cells more easily, but most of them are restricted by expensive devices, limited work area, and potential damage to cellular structure. Here we develop a hydrodynamic manipulation method to rotate and transport mouse oocytes, which utilizes acoustic waves and micropipette to generate acoustic radiation force and excite microstreaming. This method can accomplish rotational and translational operations precisely and controllably. We tested the process of trapping, rotation, and transportation of the mouse oocytes, and measured rotational and translational speed with a range of applied voltage. The method was able to shorten the cost time of delivery and posture adjustment before oocyte injection. Our study provides an easy-to-use technique for oocyte manipulation without contact, and it has the potential to be universally applied in many cellular studies.

While existing flow-based models have the potential for data enhancement and intelligent fault diagnosis of bearings, these methods are mainly based on the time domain to learn features. In general, time-domain and frequency-domain features are important for recognizing faults. Especially, the spectral features in the frequency domain can reveal highly distinct patterns associated with fault types. Therefore, learning spectral feature helps to obtain comprehensive fault information and achieve high fault diagnosis accuracy. In this work, a spectral flow model framework is developed to learn and generate realistic data from mechanical sensor signals. The performance of fault diagnosis under unbalanced data is improved by learning the information contained in the spectral features, which are utilized to generate insufficient fault data. Experimental results show that the present method can generate a large number of samples with higher similarity and better diversity on the bearing dataset. The generated samples may be used to expand the limited dataset and significantly improve the accuracy of the bearing fault diagnosis task.

Aiming at the landing problem of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) without landmarks and global coordinates, this paper proposes an efficient vision-based UAV autonomous landing solution. Firstly, image information is obtained from the bottom visual sensor of the UAV, and the YOLOV5 object detection method is employed to determine the initial position of the dynamic apron. Subsequently, an improved dynamic apron tracking method based on Spatio-Temporal Transformer is designed. This method updates an initial template through target detection algorithm and utilizes multi-source perceptual data for confidence evaluation and dynamic template updates. It outputs the distribution estimation of the predicted bounding box corner coordinates, and achieves the high reliability continuous positional smoothing estimation and dynamic apron loss re-detection based on UAV vision. Finally, the UAV calculates the horizontal control quantity based on the horizontal relative position between the UAV and the apron obtained. The vertical control quantity is calculated based on the vertical relative position between the UAV and the apron. The vertical relative position is estimated using laser ranging and visual odometry techniques. Based on the results of horizontal tracking control and vertical regulation, velocity commands for the UAV in all three directions are generated, enabling the UAV to achieve autonomous landing on the dynamic apron. This paper achieves precise landing for dynamic apron in real-world environments. The experimental results demonstrate that this method avoids the limitations of labeled data and global information on autonomous landing of UAV. Even under GPS-denied conditions, the UAV can generate control commands based on visual data and achieve autonomous landing for randomly moving apron.
