Although Modeling and simulation is successfully applied for several decades, the community only established a handful of M&S specific standards. Although the standards were applied enabling worldwide distributed simulation applications, in particular in the training application domain of military simulationsystems, the general success of M&S standard efforts and their potential for general applicability has been debated repeatedly during several conferences and workshop. This collection of position statements discusses related questions, such as, “What makes M&S special that we need M&S standards,” “Are M&S standards truly different from Software Engineering Standards,” and “What metrics can be used to measure M&S standard success,” and tries to contribute to establishing a methodological approach to identify future M&S standard needs. These position statements have been contributed in preparation of a panel discussion and edited for the supporting proceedings.

A rapid reentry trajectory planning method for a common aero vehicle (CAV) subject to all path constraints is developed. The reentry trajectory is divided into initial descent phase and quasi-equilibrium glide phase which possesses a majority of the reentry period. An improved quasi-equilibrium glide condition is utilized to convert reentry corridor constraints to the control variable constraints and get a simple relation between the range-to-go and velocity. Accordingly the longitudinal reference trajectory is computed through the one-parameter search of bank angle model and the corresponding tracking law is designed using linear quadratic regulator theory. To enhance the maneuvering capability, a geometrical control approach considering no-fly zone constraints is applied to the lateral guidance. Finally, the performance of this method is verified by computer simulation.

The present paper describes the development of the CardioGRID framework into the GRID infrastructure. The core GRID services; Workload Management System (WMS), Data Management System and Grid Authentication have been implemented. Additionally, a web-based tool -the CardioGRID portal- has been developed to facilitate the user interaction with the GRID. As a result, the user is able to process the electrocardiogram (ECG) signals obtained form a portable data acquisition device and to process it on the GRID. Once the CardioGRID portal is prompted and the user identity is verified through a digital X.509 certificate, the operator may either upload new raw ECG data to the GRID Storage Elements or use already stored data. Then, subsequent analytics from these data are performed as GRID jobs and relevant medical quantities are derived through middle-ware job retrieval mechanism. In summary in this paper was described the development of a medical GRID based system, and its integration to an existing platform for Digital Repositories Infrastructure.

This paper addresses the problem of detecting and recognizing car 3Dcontour in the presence of car occlusion from a still image. We proposed a deformable template-Meaning Active Basis Model (mABM) which is a variant of Active Basis Model (ABM). MABMs consists of a small number of Gabor wavelet elements with different locations, orientations and sizes, and every element corresponds some specific part contour of a car. We use mABMs to detect 2Dcontours of cars with various colors, sizes and shapes, in the process of detection elements of mABM are allowed to slightly perturb their locations and orientations to get the accurate 2Dcontours. After detection, the car 3D shape is reconstructed according to the 2Dcontour and the calibrated camera parameters. Another contribution of this paper is a novel technique of handling car occlusion: we coarsely rebuild car 3Dcuboid models according to the detecting result of mABMs, followed by the estimation of the overlap coefficients to separate occluded cars. Experimental results with real world images show that this method is effective in the detection of cars even under severe occlusions.
