Neural networks are capable function approximators for data, but their lack of interpretability poses challenges. Physical-informed Polynomial Neural Ordinary Differential Equations (PIPNODEs) are proposed. They combine the constraints of prior knowledge of the data with interpretable Polynomial Neural Ordinary Differential Equations (PolyNODEs) to discover or approximate the governing equations. In this work, Neural Ordinary Differential Equations (NODEs) are categorized into two layers: a physical-informed term, which represents the priori knowledge of the data, and a discrepancy term, which is derived from the approximation of PolyNODEs. Pruning strategies are also used to remove redundant terms with coefficients lower than a certain threshold. We demonstrate the effectiveness and flexibility of this framework in a series of numerical algorithms with varying levels of prior knowledge. We found that having correct but incomplete physical information accelerates training and approaching thresholds compared to having incorrect physical information.

With the rapid development of the transportation industry, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) tries to adapt to industry changes through constructing new organizational forms, management methods, and incentive mechanisms. However, many new governance issues have arisen due to the transportation system's complexity, diversity, and uncertainty. DAO(Decentralized autonomous organization) enabled by blockchain and smart contracts are regarded as effective methods to solve the organizational governance problems for complex systems. Therefore, this article analyzes the main issues currently faced by ITS. Then, this paper proposed a 6-layer DAO structure framework for ITS and discussed its key research issues. Finally, a case study for the Macau transportation system is carried out, and further research directions are proposed. The DAO-based transportation system will represent the future trend of ITS development. This paper aims to motivate more discussion for this new direction and provide helpful guidance and reference for future research work. © 2021 IEEE

Algorithms based on decision trees have been around for quite some time, however, they are still one of the most popular because of their efficiency and the interpretability of their results. One of the main problems of decision trees is their high tendency to overfit. There are various ways to solve this problem, but this paper proposes a new method based on tree pruning using delayed sampling. The tree is trained using the Separation Measure and Differential Evolution algorithms. The proposed approach improves the standard method and is compared with it. The proposed approach demonstrates higher efficiency than the standard algorithm, and also improves the interpretability of the resulting trees. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, an adaptive event-triggered filtering problem is discussed for power systems subject to multiple cyberattacks and hybrid measurements. A model describing the multiple cyber-attacks is constructed, which includes the denial of service attack and replay attack. In order to decrease the data transmission frequency, according to the practical requirements, an adaptive event-triggered strategy is adopted to schedule the node transmission. To be specific, the upper bound of the estimation error covariance is firstly obtained by solving the difference equations and employing the time-stamp method. Next, the desired estimator gain matrix is designed by minimizing the corresponding upper bound. Finally, an illustrative example is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed estimation algorithm.

AdvDiffuser: Generating Adversarial Safety-Critical Driving Scenarios via Guided Diffusion

Safety-critical scenarios are infrequent in natural driving environments but hold significant importance for the training and testing of autonomous driving systems. The prevailing approach involves generating safety-critical scenarios automatically in simulation by introducing adversarial adjustments to natural environments. These adjustments are often tailored to specific tested systems, thereby disregarding their transferability across different systems. In this paper, we propose AdvDiffuser, an adversarial framework for generating safety-critical driving scenarios through guided diffusion. By incorporating a diffusion model to capture plausible collective behaviors of background vehicles and a lightweight guide model to effectively handle adversarial scenarios, AdvDiffuser facilitates transferability. Experimental results on the nuScenes dataset demonstrate that AdvDiffuser, trained on offline driving logs, can be applied to various tested systems with minimal warm-up episode data and outperform other existing methods in terms of realism, diversity, and adversarial performance. © 2024, CC BY.

Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) envisages a sustainable, safe, convenient, and affordable air transport system. In socio-technical transition of AAM, there are a number of trade-offs in ecosystem that need to be studied. Three perspectives on economic feasibility are explored: first, based on history of VTOL services and value of time estimates, we discuss whether AAM can provide customers with competitive mobility services; second, what are the stakeholders’ insights on the deployment of AAM; last, the experience in the development of autonomous driving technology, such as parallel intelligence, can inform future AAM research.

In this paper, we study long time dynamics of radial threshold solutions for the focusing, generalized energy-critical Hartree equation and classify all radial threshold solutions. The main arguments are the spectral theory of the linearized operator, the modulational analysis and the concentration compactness rigidity argument developed by T. Duyckaerts and F. Merle to classify all threshold solutions for the energy critical NLS and NLW in [18, 19], later by D. Li and X. Zhang in [43, 44] in higher dimensions. The new ingredient here is to solve the nondegeneracy of positive bubble solutions with nonlocal structure in H1(RN) (i.e. the spectral assumption in [51]) by the nondegeneracy result of positive bubble solution in L∞(RN) in [45] and the Moser iteration method in [16], which is related to the spectral analysis of the linearized operator with nonlocal structure, and plays a key role in the construction of the special threshold solutions, and the classification of all threshold solutions. © 2023, CC BY.

By introducing appropriate surfactants to nonpolar solvents, charged inverse micelles can be incorporated as charge carriers, facilitating stable particle suspensions via electrostatic interactions. The presence of these charge carriers enables electric-field-induced transport phenomena, notably electrophoresis and electro-osmosis, to occur in these systems. As a consequence, these nonpolar-solvent systems are used in a wide range of applications, such as electronic paper displays and smart windows. In previously reported experimental work, we found that, under the right circumstances, electrophoresis and electro-osmosis act synergistically to transport particles unexpectedly fast. This work aims to uncover the underlying physics of experimentally observed particle velocity fields and trajectories driven by an applied electric field in a nonpolar solvent. Our approach involves a comprehensive numerical model to analyze particle motion in nonpolar solvents. By comparing simulation results of particle velocity fields and trajectories with experimental data obtained through astigmatism microparticle tracking velocimetry, we find that both electrophoresis and electro-osmosis contribute to particle motion. By quantifying the contributions of electrophoresis and electro-osmosis based on average particle velocities, we further confirm that electro-osmosis contributes significantly to particle transport. Two modes of electro-osmosis are considered, one that is caused by the electrical double layer near the glass surfaces and the other that is caused by the induced space charge in the vicinity of the driving electrodes. Additionally, enhanced particle velocities are found mainly in the center of the cell and result from the superposition of electrophoresis and electro-osmosis.
