B+-Tree-Quantization-Based Shared Secret Key Extraction Scheme From Atmospheric optical Wireless Channel

To reduce key disagreement rate and increase key generation rate, this paper proposes a lightweight and robust shared secret key extraction scheme from atmospheric optical wireless channel. A conception of grouping samples by using B+ tree and quantizing groups is introduced to improve the balance of distribution of channel measurement values in quantization intervals. Based on the conception, a basic B+ tree quantization algorithm (B-BPTQ) and a compensation-technology-based B+ tree quantization algorithm (C-BPTQ) are designed. A LDPC-based multi-scale information reconciliation algorithm (LDPC-MSIR) is put forward to simplify information reconciliation and reduce its computation complexity. An enhanced randomness post-processing algorithm is formulated to increase statistical randomness of initial key sequence. Finally, the performance of the proposed scheme is validated by numerical simulations and field experiments. The experimental results show that it has better performance in terms of key disagreement rate, key generation rate and key randomness compared with other schemes. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Terahertz time-of-flight tomography algorithm for different curvature samples

Traditional guide rail-based terahertz reflection tomography works well with planar samples and complements transmission tomography. Most imaging methods perform effectively with plane-like or simple curvature samples. However, these methods are ineffective for complex shapes due to the challenges of dealing with internal corrections and stitching errors. To address the above issues, terahertz time-of-flight tomography is applied to the prepared samples with abnormal curvature using a rotating scanning array and "point cloud splicing" method. This approach enables comprehensive sample information collection and resolves the inner layer point cloud position correction challenge. A radial distance point cloud down-sampling method is proposed to reduce the impact of overlapping point clouds on reconstruction accuracy. After down-sampling, the outer layer reconstruction error reduces to 0.22%. Poisson surface reconstruction further enhances the intuitiveness of imaging results, and the reconstruction accuracy is 0.01 mm. This study broadens the application of terahertz time-of-flight tomography and offers a different approach for reflection tomography. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.

Underwater distance measurement and length sensing, as fundamental functions of geoscience, are integrated into underwater robots and vessels in various forms of sensor payloads and play a crucial role in a wide range of remote sensing applications. Advanced laser-based detection systems and algorithms are essential for underwater tasks, such as detecting damage in underwater pipelines and conducting detailed structural health assessments. In this paper, we experimentally demonstrated an arbitrary underwater ranging system by the chirped pulse interferometry with a mode-locked laser. Water's inherent characteristic introduces dispersion, enabling unique distance discrimination. Adjusting the repetition frequency allows us to acquire the interference spectrum. A long fiber delay line, stabilized by the servo-controlled system, eliminates the ranging dead zone. The widest fringe of the interference spectrum, corresponding to an instantaneous repetition frequency, indicates the arbitrary measured distance. Leveraging a charge-coupled device detection module, we achieved an update rate of 13.5 Hz for the interference spectrum. Experimental results show a precise distance difference within 59.8 μm at the 5 m range underwater without the dead zone. © 2025 IEEE. All rights reserved.

Single-Loop Deadbeat Predictive control Framework for Uncertain SPMSM Drives With Disturbance Observation

To mitigate the detrimental effects of parameter perturbations and external load torque on the accuracy of speed and current tracking control in surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) drive systems, while avoiding the complexities inherent in traditional speed-current series control architectures, this paper presents a single-loop deadbeat predictive control (SDPC) framework that incorporates online disturbance observation. The control input voltage vector is directly computed using an SDPC controller in conjunction with a set of discrete-time disturbance observers (DDOBs). This proposed methodology offers two notable advantages over existing research: (i) it substantially reduces the number of adjustable controller parameters, requiring only the tuning of the observer bandwidth and the speed scaling gain, which enhances its practicality for engineering applications;and (ii) the disturbance estimation and compensation mechanism utilizing DDOBs significantly improves the robustness of the SPMSM system. Furthermore, the SDPC framework ensures that the system maintains satisfactory transient and steady-state tracking performance in response to reference signals. Experimental comparisons validate both the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method. © 2015 IEEE.

In this letter, a dual-band rotational feed circularly polarized (CP) antenna array is proposed. The dual-band antenna element consists of two pairs of symmetric dipoles. The low-frequency CP radiation is achieved by the longer dipole pair, and the high-frequency radiation is mainly superimposed by the shorter dipole pair of the fundamental mode and the longer dipole pair of the higher-order mode. Flexible temperature sensors based on optimized paper/Cu/Al2O3 and graphene/PVDF composite sensing layers

Wearable devices have great potential for development in the fields of human health detection and human-computer interaction due to its flexibility and portability. In this work, Firstly, the resistance response performance of paper/Cu/Al2O3 to temperature is optimized by changing the sputtering time of Al2O3. Combining the resistance change and stability after one month, paper/Cu/Al2O3 films with 1 min Al2O3 layer is selected. Then, temperature sensor based on optimized paper/Cu/Al2O3 and graphene/PVDF composite temperature-sensitive layers is fabricated. The sensor shows negative temperature coefficient, high temperature response and stability, which provides significant advantages in the field of temperature monitoring. The fastest response/recovery time of the sensor is 1.4 s and 10.48 s respectively, which is fast and reliable in capturing the temperature changes and thus has the capability of real-time temperature monitoring. Another outstanding feature of the sensor is its high linearity to temperature fluctuations (R2 =0.947). This feature suggests that the sensor enables real-time resistance-temperature interaction. In addition, its practical applications will be explored. The sensor can quickly sense the temperature of fingers, hot water, and working mobile phones. At the same time, the excellent performance of the sensor enables it to achieve the function of illuminating the LED. It lays the foundation for the application of temperature sensors in flexible wearable device applications. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Sea ice poses a significant hazard to vessels navigating in high-latitude maritime regions. To effectively prevent the collision between ships and large sea ice (such as icebergs) and other similar accidents, it is crucial to identify sea ice and its types in a timely and accurate manner. However, traditional sea ice identification techniques, such as optical and radar remote sensing, are often limited by visibility conditions, suffering from poor accuracy, high measurement costs, and low identification efficiency. This paper proposes a sea ice identification method based on a vibration sensor network, combined with the PCA-BPMIV-GRU strategy, which achieves low cost, high efficiency, and high accuracy in sea ice type detection. Firstly, a cost-effective MEMS vibration sensor network is deployed to capture vibration information of sea ice. The data collected from six sensors at different locations at the same time are treated as independent samples to construct a dataset, which contains time-frequency domain characteristic data of three sea-ice types: broken ice, flat ice, and open water. Secondly, the dimension reduction and feature optimization of vibration data were carried out by combining Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and the improved Mean Influence Value Optimization algorithm (BPMIV). This integration of unsupervised and supervised algorithms effectively eliminated unnecessary feature information, significantly improving model identification efficiency. Finally, seven commonly used classification algorithms are compared for the identification of three types of sea ice, evaluating their identification accuracy and efficiency under different dimensionality reduction methods. The results confirm that the Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) model achieves the best comprehensive performance. Layer normalized OpenGAN framework for human intrusion activity recognition in a φ-OTDR optical fiber sensing system

Distributed optical fiber vibration sensing systems (DVS) are widely employed in perimeter security for their high sensitivity, simplicity, and strong immunity to electromagnetic interference. However, these systems are facing with two serious challenges: accurately classifying closed-set signals (known events) and detecting open-set signals (unknown events). To address this, we propose an open-set recognition framework, ResEff-OpenGAN-LN. By integrating layer normalization into the OpenGAN architecture, this framework mitigates instability caused by input feature variations while leveraging ResEff for efficient feature extraction to enhance closed-set classification. Experimental results show that ResEff achieves 99.92% accuracy on closed-set tasks, and ResEff-OpenGAN-LN obtains an AUROC of 0.9900 with 96.63% overall accuracy on mixed datasets containing open-set and closed-set signals, validating its potential to improve intrusion detection and reduce false alarms. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.

Topological singularities, such as Weyl points (WPs) and Dirac points, can give rise to unidirectional propagation channels known as chiral zero modes (CZMs) when subject to a magnetic field. CZMs, as distinct zeroth Landau levels (bulk modes) with high degeneracy, are responsible for intriguing phenomena like the chiral anomaly in quantum systems. The propagation direction of each CZM is determined by both the applied magnetic field and the topological charge of the singularity point. While counterpropagating CZMs have been observed in 2D and 3D systems, the realization of copropagating CZMs has remained elusive. Here, we present the first experimental observation of copropagating CZMs in magnetic photonic crystals hosting a single pair of ideal Weyl points. By manipulating the crystal’s structural configuration and applying a uniform bias magnetic field, we spatially alter the locations of the WPs, creating pseudo-magnetic fields of opposite directions for different WPs. This arrangement results in a pair of CZMs that possess the same group velocity and copropagate. Our work opens up new possibilities for the topological manipulation of wave propagation and may lead to advancements in optical waveguides, switches, and various other applications.
