In recent years, the number of IoT devices has exploded along with the development of DX. Fog computing has been attracting attention as a network element to cope with this increase in IoT devices, thus instigating a shift from the conventional two-layer edge-cloud structure to a three-layer edge-fog-cloud network. The edge generally consists of various IoT devices (e.g., sensors) and IoT often involves movement (e.g., connected cars and drones), so ideally it should be possible to access a nearby fog (assuming a public fog) when communicating through a 3-layer network. In this case, it is important to ensure that security policies match in order to securely connect public fog and mobile IoT. However, this has not been sufficiently studied. In this paper, we propose and evaluate a security policy matching model for secure connections between public fog and mobile IoT. This will contribute to the safe and secure network operation of mobile IoT represented by connected cars and drones. © 2023 IEEE.

The accuracy and stability of brain tumor MRI image classification is significant for the healthcare system, but the traditional models have the defects of difficulty in handling complex features and unstable classification. In this paper, we propose a novel brain tumor classification model based on residual neural network, and use three different data enhancement algorithms: geometric transformation, mixup, and SamplePairing to process a dataset containing four different types of brain tumor images, and finally evaluate the classification effect of our proposed model. Among them, the best results were achieved by using geometric transformations for data enhancement. © 2023 IEEE.

Machine learning models are increasingly used in time series prediction with promising results. The model explanation of time series prediction falls behind the model development and makes less sense to users in understanding model decisions. This paper proposes ES-Mask, a post-hoc and model-agnostic evolutionary strip mask-based saliency approach for time series applications. ES-Mask designs the mask consisting of strips with the same salient value in consecutive time steps to produce binary and sustained feature importance scores over time for easy understanding and interpretation of time series. ES-Mask uses an evolutionary algorithm to search for the optimal mask by manipulating strips in rounds, thus is agnostic to models by involving no internal model states in the search. The initial experiments on MIMIC-III data set show that ES-Mask outperforms state-of-the-art methods. Copyright © 2023, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (***). Telework has been on the rise since the advent of COVID-19, and concerns have arisen about issues such as information leakage due to internal fraud. The zero-Trust model is attracting attention as a countermeasure. This model reduces risk by constantly performing authentication and authorization, thus leading to improved security levels and safer operation. However, currently less than 40% of the companies in Japan have introduced zero trust into their security policies, mainly due to the lack of specific guidelines for operational management. We have therefore developed a security policy (service authorization conditions) for the software defined perimeter (SDP) zero-Trust model as a universal operational management method to promote zero-Trust implementation. Specifically, we simplify the time/place/occasion (TPO) conditions of users as T (inside/outside working hours), P (inside/outside the company, telework), and O (with/without visitors), resulting in 12 patterns, and for each of these TPO conditions, we propose detailed new service authorization conditions for SDP. The results of qualitative evaluation demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method. Our findings will contribute to the introduction of the zero-Trust model and pave the way for safer and more secure corporate networks. © 2023 IEEE.

In the life cycle, the system-of-systems is faced with challenges from internal and external uncertain factors, making it adapt to the environment through evolution. Studying Architecture of system-of-systems evolution method is order to cope with the challenges of high-level mission change, replacement of old and new systems, and technical iterative update. An architecture evolution process is proposed to analyze evolutionary motivations and requirements. A bi-level multi-objective programming model is constructed to solve the Pareto optimal solution set that meets the evolutionary requirements. The genetic algorithm is used to solve the model, and the TOPSIS algorithm is used to sort the solution set. The effectiveness and rationality of the method are verified by combining the evolution case of Public Health Prevention Architecture of system-of-systems. © 2022, Chinese Institute of Command and Control.

Machine learning (ML) models are widely deployed on edge nodes, such as mobile phones and edge servers, to power a wide range of AI applications over the web. Ensuring the integrity of these edge models is paramount, as they are subject to corruption caused by software/hardware exceptions and malicious tampering, which may undermine model performance, incur economic losses, and pose health risks. Existing data integrity mechanisms designed for files stored on disks cannot properly verify the integrity of models running in GPUs or mitigate the new integrity threats against edge models. This paper proposes EdgeThemis, a novel mechanism for verifying the integrity of edge models through sentinel verification. To enable verifiability for a model M, EdgeThemis embeds a sentinel backdoor and a verification module into M. Then, a challenger can send verification requests to the edge node hosting M to verify its integrity. Next, the sentinel activates the verification module to generate a unique integrity proof tied to the identity of the edge node for verification. Finally, the challenger can verify the integrity proof to detect model corruption. Theoretical analysis proves that EdgeThemis can properly mitigate potential integrity threats against edge models. Experiments demonstrate that EdgeThemis achieves a verification accuracy of 100.00% across various models and different types of model corruption with robustness against replay attacks, theft attacks, and replacement attacks. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Spatiotemporal mode-locked intelligent fiber laser based on cascaded photonic lanterns

An intelligent controlled spatiotemporal mode-locked (STML) fiber laser based on a photonic lantern (PL) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. A pair of in-house developed PLs is spliced into the cavity in a back-to-back structure. This PL-based structure functions as a mode multiplexer/demultiplexer to generate higher-order spatial modes. Owing to the strong polarization-dependent loss structural characteristics, the structure also serves as an equivalent saturable absorber based on nonlinear polarization rotation. The STML fiber laser delivers pulsed high-order modes at a center wavelength of 1555.4 nm with a pulse duration of 6.99 ps. With the deployment of a motorized polarization controller and a time-domain signal feedback system, the laser enables intelligent control via a stochastic global polarization search algorithm. Experimental results indicate that the proposed laser can effectively evade disturbances from complex intracavity states and accurately lock onto the fundamental mode-locking state within only 2 min. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group. In Federated Cloud environment, Cloud service ranking and selection is a very tedious work because of complexion involved Service Level Agreement (SLA) and Service specifications. Quality of Service (QoS) expected from Cloud users may be conflicting based on their applications. Cloud Brokers needs to be deal with Cloud users and Federated cloud like a heterogeneous interface. A Cloud Brokers also fulfils many suitable services from available resources. Cloud Broker also choose the federated cloud services based on their rank for available service. Noncommercial and conflicting demands of users evolves Cloud Service Selection a very competitive multi-criteria based service ranking and selection problem. Cloud User requests from different federated clouds based on some preference order of QoS parameters. This preference order converts into individual QoS parameters by assigning suitable weight. The weighted demands are estimated the available QoS values for each cloud service. In the next step, modified VIKOR method is applied for finding the rank of the services. This rank of service is based on preference of QoS parameters. The service with highest rank is selected and provided to the user. Thermoelectric materials possess the unique capability to convert thermal energy into electric energy and vice versa,making them promising for waste heat recovery and efficient cooling ***,extensively investigated thermoelectric materials such as Bi2Te3,PbTe and GeTe exhibit superior thermoelectric properties at room temperature and medium temperature ***,the broad application of these thermoelectric materials has been impeded by the high cost and restricted accessibility of Te and Ge in the earth's *** the past few years,researchers have shown increasing interest in PbSe-and PbS-based materials,primarily attributed to their abundant elemental supply and relatively low *** assessment of research progress and a comprehensive overview of optimization strategies in time can significantly contribute to further improving the thermoelectric *** strategies include optimizing carrier concentration(aliovalent doping,dynamic doping and defect state),enhancing density-of-state effective mass(band convergence,band flattening and energy filtering effect),optimizing carrier mobility(band sharpening and band alignment)and reducing lattice thermal conductivity(all-scale hierarchical defect structures designing).This systematic summary and analysis provide novel insights and perspectives for the development of thermoelectric materials.
