Molecular-level proton acceptor boosts oxygen evolution catalysis to enable efficient industrial-scale water splitting

Industrial water splitting has long been suppressed by the sluggish kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction(OER),which requires a catalyst to be ***,we propose a molecular-level proton acceptor strategy to produce an efficient OER catalyst that can boost industrial-scale water ***-level phosphate(-PO_(4))group is introduced to modify the surface of PrBa_(0.5)Ca_(0.5)Co_(2)O_(5)+δ(PBCC).The achieved catalyst(PO_(4)-PBCC)exhibits significantly enhanced catalytic performance in alkaline *** on the X-ray absorption spectroscopy results and density functional theory(DFT)calculations,the PO_(4)on the surface,which is regarded as the Lewis base,is the key factor to overcome the kinetic limitation of the proton transfer process during the *** use of the catalyst in a membrane electrode assembly(MEA)is further evaluated for industrial-scale water splitting,and it only needs a low voltage of 1.66 V to achieve a large current density of 1 A cm^(-2).This work provides a new molecular-level strategy to develop highly efficient OER electrocatalysts for industrial applications.

Building an effective resilient supply chain system (RSCS) is critical and necessary to reduce the risk of supply chain disruptions in unexpected scenarios such as COVID-19 pandemic and trade wars. To overcome the impact of insufficient raw material supply on the supply chain in mass disruption scenarios, this study proposes a novel RSCS considering product design changes (PDC). An RSCS domain model is first developed from the perspective of PDC based on a general conceptual framework, i.e., function-context-behavior-principle-state-structure (FCBPSS), which can portray complex systems under unpredictable situations. Specifically, the interaction among the structure, state and behavior of the infrastructure system and substance system is captured, and then a quantitative analysis of the change impact process is presented to evaluate the resilience of both the product and supply chain. Next, a case study is conducted to demonstrate the PDC strategy and to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the RSCS domain model. The results show that the restructured RSCS based on the proposed strategy and model can remedy the huge losses caused by the unavailability of raw materials.

TERMS: Task management policies to achieve high performance for mixed workloads using surplus resources

Resource contentions and performance interferences can lead to workload performance degradation in mixed-workload deployment clusters. Previous work guarantees the resource requirements of latency-sensitive tasks and reduces performance losses to batch jobs by reclaiming surplus resources from over-provisioned tasks. While the fragmentation of resources leads to a mismatch between provisioned resources and task requirements, resulting in high operation overheads and losses of task fairness. This paper proposes TERMS, the task management policies based on task relevance, resource distribution, and task fairness to achieve efficient and low-cost task management. TERMS mainly includes three types of management policies. The task scheduling policy can schedule new tasks according to task relevance. Task selection strategies select tasks for resource provisioning and task resumption based on resource requirements and task fairness. If necessary, the node selection strategy can be used to choose befitting target nodes based on task relevance and node resource information for task migration when eliminating straggler tasks. Evaluation results show that TERMS can further improve the performance of latency-sensitive services and batch jobs, reduce management overheads, and avoid operation failures. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.

To deal with uncertainty in a very precise way, the ambiguous set theory has been proposed. This theory supports the representation of ambiguities in terms of four membership degrees, namely "true," "false," "true-ambiguous," and "false-ambiguous." These membership degrees are linearly dependent on each other, because they are defined over the same event. However, these four membership degrees have the difficulty of unclear margins that prevent them to be separated from each other in the ambiguities representation of an event. To address this problem of unclear margins in the ambiguous set, the membership degrees are defined using four different functions, and called ambiguous membership functions (AMFs). These membership degrees are defined in such a way that their sum should be less than or equal to 2, and the individual membership degree should be in the range [0, 1]. To visually represent the uncertain margins for the membership degrees, the concept of an ambiguous region (AR) is introduced. In this study, various set-theoretic operations, their properties, and methods for measuring distances in support of the ambiguous sets are discussed. Finally, we discuss a real-time application of the ambiguous set theory with respect to solving the decision-making problem of choosing the appropriate colleges for students. © 2023, The Author(s) under exclusive licence to Taiwan Fuzzy systems Association.

The development of highly efficient OER catalysts with superior durability for seawater electrolysis and Zn-air battery is important but ***,the vacancy-modified heterostructured bimetallic Fe Mo S_(x)/Co Ni P_(x)OER electrocatalyst is *** from the electron redistribution and reaction kinetics modulation resulting from vacancy introduction and heterojunction formation,it yields ultralow OER overpotentials of 196,276,303 m V in 1 M KOH and 197,318,348 m V in 1 M KOH+seawater at 10,500,1000 m A cm^(-2),respectively,surviving 600 h at 800 m A cm^(-2)without obvious ***,FeMoS_(x)/CoNiP_(x)-based Zn-air battery not only affords the high peak power density of 214.5 m W cm^(-2)but also exhibits the small voltage gap of 0.698 V and long lifetime of 500 h at 10 m A cm^(-2),overmatching overwhelming majority of reported advanced *** is revealed experimentally that the OER process on rationally designed Fe Mo S_(x)/Co Ni P_(x)follows the adsorbate evolution mechanism and the ratedetermining step shifts from^(*)OOH formation in individual building blocks to^(*)OOH deprotonation process in FeMoS_(x)/CoNiP_(x),providing the directly proof of how the vacancy introduction and heterojunction formation affect the reaction kinetics.

The exponential growth of astronomical datasets provides an unprecedented opportunity for humans to gain insight into the ***,effectively analyzing this vast amount of data poses a significant *** response,astronomers are turning to deep learning techniques,but these methods are limited by their specific training sets,leading to considerable duplicate *** overcome this issue,we built a framework for the general analysis of galaxy images based on a large vision model(LVM)plus downstream tasks(DST),including galaxy morphological classification,image restoration object detection,parameter extraction,and *** the low signal-to-noise ratios of galaxy images and the imbalanced distribution of galaxy categories,we designed our LVM to incorporate a Human-in-the-loop(HITL)module,which leverages human knowledge to enhance the reliability and interpretability of processing galaxy images *** proposed framework exhibits notable fewshot learning capabilities and versatile adaptability for all the abovementioned tasks on galaxy images in the DESI Legacy Imaging *** particular,for the object detection task,which was trained using 1000 data points,our DST in the LVM achieved an accuracy of 96.7%,while ResNet50 plus Mask R-CNN reached an accuracy of 93.1%.For morphological classification,to obtain an area under the curve(AUC)of~0.9,LVM plus DST and HITL only requested 1/50 of the training sets that ResNet18 *** addition,multimodal data can be integrated,which creates possibilities for conducting joint analyses with datasets spanning diverse domains in the era of multi-messenger astronomy.

Dispatcher: Resource-aware Nakamoto Blockchain via Hierarchical Topology and Adaptive Incentives

Mainstream blockchain systems such as Bitcoin and Ethereum are revolutionizing the financial industry by adopting the Nakamoto consensus protocol, i.e., Proof-of-Work (PoW). Only nodes with sufficient computing resources can work out the PoW difficulties, thereby increasing the mining cost of malicious attackers and ensuring the security of blockchain systems. Such an assumption of having abundant resources leads to drawbacks of low throughput and risk of centralization. In this article, we present Dispatcher, a novel distributed consensus protocol that takes resource heterogeneity into account to ensure resource-aware PoW with high efficiency. Dispatcher introduces a hierarchical topology to offer flexible PoW difficulties tailored for different nodes’ resources. In particular, it utilizes the limited resource of each node to jointly maximize the performance by concurrent mining. Moreover, we design an adaptive incentive mechanism to fit the available resource of blockchain nodes to rewards. Our experiments show that Dispatcher enjoys a substantial performance margin over the state-of-the-art. We can achieve a 50% throughput improvement compared with OHIE.

Universities currently employ manual and partial digital methods for managing examinations, which involve extensive paperwork and consume significant time. This approach raises significant issues, such as time-consuming processes, errors, poor exam and result quality, submission delays, plagiarism, inaccurate grading, and a lack of security. Lecturers face challenges when creating exam questions for every subject every semester, often reusing previous questions without considering their quality, failing educational quality standards. The marking of exam scripts is often rushed to meet deadlines, leading to substandard grading, and the entire process is time-consuming and requires unnecessary effort. Un considerable amount of paper is utilized, and the storage of exam scripts occupies substantial physical space, posing the risk of damage or loss. A novel approach was proposed via Intelligent Green Examination Structure based on fog computing to address these issues. This innovative structure aims to transform traditional examination procedures into an automated, intelligent, and secure system that reduces human involvement and ensures high-quality outcomes. This research focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered digital exam management structure based on Fog Computing in enhancing the efficiency and security of exam administration. The structure of this paper begins with a problem discussion, hypothesis, objectives, significance of the research, literature review, and research methodology. © 2023 IEEE.
