Early diagnosis of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) can inhibit the progression and improve femoral head preservation. The radiograph difference between early ONFH and healthy ones is not apparent to the naked eye. It is also hard to produce a large dataset to train the classification model. In this paper, we propose Asymmetric-Sensitive Transformer (AsT) to capture the uneven development of the bilateral femoral head to enable robust ONFH detection. Our ONFH detection is realized using the self-attention mechanism to femoral head regions while conferring sensitivity to the uneven development by the attention-shared transformer. The real-world experiment studies show that AsT achieves the best performance of AUC 0.9313 in the early diagnosis of ONFH and can find out misdiagnosis cases firmly. FFCI: A Camera and IMU Sensors Based Multi-modal Neural Network for Activity Recognition in Smart Factory

Worker activity recognition is an important aspect of the construction of smart factory. The development of deep neural networks and the widespread distribution of sensors in the smart factory have brought opportunities for the recognition of workers' activities. The existing methods based on camera and IMU sensors respectively have problems of visual occlusion and difficulty in recognition of similar activities, which result in the reduction of recognition accuracy. Therefore, we propose a feature-level fusion based on camera and IMU sensor (FFCI) for activity recognition in smart factory. The FFCI employs an optimized multi-modal fusion strategy to integrate the visual information and the action information of workers' activities. In order to verify the effectiveness of FFCI, we define a simple yet fine-grained assembly task and collect six common operations. Furthermore, we add visual occlusion and similar activity data to get closer to the smart factory. Finally, we evaluate the FFCI on the collected dataset and achieve a recognition accuracy of 98.17%, demonstrating its effectiveness in accurately classifying workers' activities. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Road damage detection (RDD) through computer vision and deep learning techniques can ensure the safety of vehicles and humans on the roads. Integrating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in RDD and infrastructure evaluation (IE) has also emerged as a key enabler, contributing significantly to data acquisition and real-time monitoring of road damages, such as potholes, cracks, and surface anomalies, facilitating proactive maintenance and improved road conditions. These UAVs are low-powered and resource-constrained devices that work autonomously to perform pattern detection and decision making leveraging tiny machine learning (Tiny ML) algorithms. These Tiny ML algorithms are designed to run on edge devices, IoT devices, UAVs, etc. In this study, the RDD2022 data set collected using UAVs and dashboard cameras of vehicles was utilized to train pure and mixed models that exhibit class instance imbalance in certain classes which is addressed by implementing data augmentation as a regularization technique. State-of-the-art two-stage detectors: Faster R-CNN ResNet101 and one-stage detectors: SSD MobileNet V1 FPN, YOLOv5, and Efficientdet D1 are employed. The results indicate that the two-stage detector achieved an impressive mean average precision (mAP) of 88.49% overall and 96.62% for focused classes. Notably, the state-of-the-art Efficientdet D1 approach achieved a competitive mAP of 86.47% overall and 95.12% for focused classes, with significantly lower computational cost. These findings highlight the potential of advanced object detection techniques, particularly Efficientdet D1, to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of RDD systems, thereby improving passenger safety and overall performance. © 2014 IEEE.

Multimodal sarcasm detection aims to identify whether utterances express sarcastic intentions contrary to their literal meaning based on multimodal information. However, existing methods fail to explore the model's "ability to understand" the semantics expressed by sentences in the image context from semantic diversity perspectives. In this paper, we propose a multi-view semantic awareness method, which concretizes semantics from multiple perspectives to improve the model's ability to capture different semantic features. Specifically, two learnable prefixes are attached to the text representation respectively to construct semantic representations from both the literal meaning and sarcastic intention perspectives. Then, image-text information is further fused through cross-attention to guide the semantic representation of different perspectives in the image context. Finally, the semantics expressed by prefixes are strengthened through KL divergence, thereby encouraging the model to capture two distinctive semantic features. Experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. © 2025 IEEE.

Enhancing visual clarity in hazy media: a comprehensive approach through preprocessing and feature fusion attention-based dehazing

Particles in the atmosphere, such as dust and smoke, can cause visual clarity problems in both images and videos. Haze is the result of the interaction between airborne particles and light, which is scattered and attenuated. Hazy media present difficulties in a variety of applications due to the reduced contrast and loss of essential information. In response, dehazing techniques have been introduced to bring hazy videos and images back to clarity. Here, we provide a novel technique for eliminating haze. It comprises preprocessing steps before dehazing. Preprocessing is applied to hazy images through homomorphic processing and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE). We present a dehazing technique referred to as the pre-trained Feature Fusion Attention Network (FFA-Net) that directly lets dehazed images be restored from hazy or preprocessed hazy inputs without requiring the determination of atmospheric factors, such as air light and transmission maps. The FFA-Net architecture incorporates a Feature Attention (FA) method to do this task. We assess the proposed technique in a variety of circumstances, including visible frames, Near-Infrared (NIR) frames, and real-world hazy images. Evaluation criteria like entropy, correlation, and Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) are used to compare the quality of dehazed frames or images to their hazy counterparts. Furthermore, histogram analysis and spectral entropy are adopted to determine the effectiveness of the proposed technique in comparison to existing dehazing techniques. Comparative results are presented for both real-world and simulated environments. The benefits of the proposed technique are demonstrated by a comparison of the results obtained from the standalone pre-trained FFA-Net and the proposed comprehensive methodology. Deep learning methods have shown remarkable performance in intelligent fault diagnosis. However, traditional models often rely heavily on large amounts of labeled data and exhibit limited generalization capabilities across different operating conditions. To address this issue, this paper revisits the latent representations of fault data from a causal perspective and proposes a structural causal model to guide the decoupling of time-domain and frequency-domain representations in deep learning models. Based on this, a multi-stage contrastive causal learning diagnosis framework is constructed. This framework leverages self-supervised time-frequency domain contrastive learning and supervised multi-domain contrastive learning to explore general causal representations, thereby effectively decoupling the features of fault data. Finally, by fine-tuning the model and training the classification head, the fault classification task is accomplished. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves outstanding diagnostic performance on multiple fault-bearing datasets, showcasing its potential for widespread application in complex industrial scenarios. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent years, Digital Twin (DT) has gained significant interestfrom academia and industry due to the advanced in information technology,communication systems, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing (CC),and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The main concept of the DT isto provide a comprehensive tangible, and operational explanation of anyelement, asset, or system. However, it is an extremely dynamic taxonomydeveloping in complexity during the life cycle that produces a massive amountof engendered data and information. Likewise, with the development of AI,digital twins can be redefined and could be a crucial approach to aid theInternet of Things (IoT)-based DT applications for transferring the data andvalue onto the Internet with better decision-making. Therefore, this paperintroduces an efficient DT-based fault diagnosis model based on machinelearning (ML) tools. In this framework, the DT model of the machine isconstructed by creating the simulation model. In the proposed framework,the Genetic algorithm (GA) is used for the optimization task to improvethe classification accuracy. Furthermore, we evaluate the proposed faultdiagnosis framework using performance metrics such as precision, accuracy,F-measure, and recall. The proposed framework is comprehensively examinedusing the triplex pump fault diagnosis. The experimental results demonstratedthat the hybrid GA-ML method gives outstanding results compared to MLmethods like LogisticRegression (LR), Na飗e Bayes (NB), and SupportVectorMachine (SVM). The suggested framework achieves the highest accuracyof 95% for the employed hybrid GA-SVM. The proposed framework willeffectively help industrial operators make an appropriate decision concerningthe fault analysis for IIoT applications in the context of Industry 4.0.
