Weighted sum power maximization for STAR-RIS-aided SWIPT systems with nonlinear energy harvesting

The conventional reconfigurable intelligent surface(RIS) is limited to reflecting incident signals,thereby imposing constraints on the placement of the transmitter and receiver, which hinders achieving comprehensive signal coverage across an entire area. This paper investigates a simultaneously transmitting and reflecting(STAR)-RIS-aided simultaneous wireless information and power transfer(SWIPT) system with a nonlinear energy harvesting model under three different RIS transmission protocols: energy splitting(ES),time switching(TS), and mode switching(MS). The objective of this paper is to maximize the weighted sum power(WSP) of all energy harvesting receivers(EHRs) while ensuring fairness in the collected power among them. This is achieved by jointly optimizing the transmit beamforming at the base station(BS)and the transmission and reflection coefficients at the STAR-RIS, subject to rate constraints for information decoding receivers(IDRs), transmit power constraint at the BS, and coefficient constraints of each element at the STAR-RIS corresponding to the three protocols. Solving this optimization problem poses challenges because of the complicated objective function and numerous coupled optimization variables of the ES STAR-RIS. To address this complexity, an efficient alternating optimization(AO) approach is proposed as an iterative solution method that achieves suboptimal results. The AO algorithm is then extended to MS STAR-RIS and TS STAR-RIS. Specifically, for MS STRA-RIS, binary constraints in the STAR-RIS coefficient optimization subproblem are handled using the first-order approximation technique along with the penalty function method. High peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR) is a major drawback of discrete multi-tone(DMT) in peak-power-constraint(PPC) intensity-modulation/direct-detection(IM/DD) optical systems. Symmetric clipping operation is a frequently-used and practical method for mitigating the PAPR of the DMT ***, clipping noise is inevitably induced by the symmetric clipping operation, thereby deteriorating the system's performance. In this paper, we study the statistical characteristics of the clipping noise in *** on the statistical characteristics, clipping-noise-cancellation(CNC) algorithms are proposed to mitigate the clipping noise in the clipping DMT systems. Theoretically, the clipping noise can be completely removed using the low-density-parity-check-assisted CNC algorithm(LDPC-assisted CNC algorithm). To verify the superiority of the clipping DMT with the CNC algorithm, we conduct an experiment with a50 Gb/s DMT system using 10G-class commercial devices for the scenario of PPC passive optical *** receiver sensitivity of the clipping DMT system with the CNC algorithm can reach-24 d Bm at a 20%soft-decision forward-error-correction limit, which is 2.5 d B higher than that of the DMT system without clipping operation. The clipping operation and the CNC algorithm are added after the original digital signal processing, thereby demonstrating the potential to efectively overcome the drawback in DMT signals and other high-PAPR signals.

In recent years,aqueous aluminum ion batteries have been widely studied owing to their abundant energy storage and high theo retical *** in-depth study of vanadium oxide materials is necessary to address the precipitation of insoluble products covered cathode surface and the slow reaction ***,a method using a simple one-step hydrothermal preparation and oxalic acid to regulate oxygen vacancies has been reported.A high starting capacity(400 mAh g^(-1))can be achieved by Ov-V2O5,and it is capable of undergoing 200 cycles at 0.4 A g^(-1),with a termination discharge capacity of103 mAh g^(-1).Mechanism analysis demonstrated that metastable structures(AlxV2O5and HxV2O5)were constructed through the insertion of Al^(3+)/H^(+)during discharging,which existed in the lattice intercalation with *** incorporation of oxygen vacancies lowers the reaction energy barrier while improving the ion transport *** addition,the metastable structure allows the electrostatic interaction between Al3+and the main backbone to establish protection and optimize the transport *** parallel,this work exploits ex-situ characterization and DFT to obtain a profound insight into the instrumental effect of oxygen vacancies in the construction of metastable structures during in-situ electrochemical activation,with a view to better understanding the mechanism of the synergistic participation of Al3+and H+in the *** work not only reports a method for cathode materials to modulate oxygen vacancies,but also lays the foundation for a deeper understanding of the metastable structure of vanadium oxides.

Driven by the explosive development of data-centric computation applications, it is becoming urgent to develop in-memory computing devices that are beyond the von Neumann architecture with an arrangement of separated logic and memory components. The transistor-type solid-state non-volatile memories,such as ferroelectric field-effect transistors(Fe FETs), have long been regarded as a competitive candidate for future in-memory computing architectures. However, the density scaling towards high-density arrays would require advanced Fe FETs with reduced footprints, which remains a great challenge so far. Here, a vertical-transport(VT) Fe FET that flips the charge transport channel perpendicular to the substrate plane is proposed, in which a ferroelectric gate and a van der Waals(vd W) heterojunction channel are vertically integrated, effectively reducing the device footprints. The proposed VT-Fe FET shows not only the robust binary non-volatile memory states but also several key synaptic functionalities at the device level. An artificial neural network with supervised learning was simulated based on the device conductance switching properties,showing excellent classification accuracy for the MNIST handwritten digits. These findings suggest that the proposed VT-Fe FET could offer a new solution for future non-volatile memories as well as more advanced neuromorphic systems.

Superior multiphase interfaces in AgCuTe-based composite with significantly enhanced thermoelectric properties

It is common sense that a phase interface(or grain boundary)could be used to scatter phonons in thermoelectric(TE)materials,resulting in low thermal conductivity(k).However,a large number of impurity phases are always so harmful to the transport of carriers that poor TE performance is ***,we demonstrate that numerous superior multiphase(AgCuTe,Ag_(−2)Te,copper telluride(Cu_(2)Te and Cu_(2−x)Te),and nickel telluride(NiTe))interfaces with simultaneous strong phonon scattering and weak electron scattering could be realized in AgCuTe-based TE *** to the similar chemical bonds in these phases,the depletion region at phase interfaces,which acts as carrier scattering centers,could be ***,the power factor(PF)is obviously enhanced from~609 to~832μW·m^(−1)·K^(−2),and k is simultaneously decreased from~0.52 to~0.43 W·m^(−1)·K^(−1) at 636 ***,a peak figure of merit(zT)of~1.23 at 636 K and an average zT(zTavg)of~1.12 in the temperature range of 523–623 K are achieved,which are one of the best values among the AgCuTe-based TE *** study could provide new guidance to enhance the performance by designing superior multiphase interfaces in the TE materials.
