AME4163: Principles of engineering Design is a design, build and test course offered at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, USA. Throughout the semester students are expected to reflect on authentic and immersive experiences and write Take-aways and Learning Statements. At the end of the semester each student submits a summative Semester Learning Essay. Between 2019-2021 we collected about 10,000 Take-aways and Learning Statements from the Semester Learning Essays of nearly 400 students. In this paper, we attempt to help instructors gain insight of what students have learned through these materials and thence improve the delivery of the course in the future. We analyze their Take-aways from summative Semester Learning Essays by using dictionary-based sentiment analysis to assess students' subjective feelings toward what they have learned. The results prove that we gain insight into their learning thereby providing instructors with evidence-based guidance on modifying the course from different perspectives. The method proposed is generalizable to courses that involve authentic immersive experiences. © 2023 IEEE.

Students' contest is a vital part of the education process. It can significantly exercise students' ability to innovate and teamwork. In the contest, the high-quality evaluation team is the guarantees fairness and efficiency. The supervision and evaluation of the quality of the judge is the basis of building a high-quality judge team. In this regard, the main research contents of this paper are as follows: Based on data driven, combined with psychology and statistical analysis, three dimensions of evaluation indexes are built by combining qualitative and quantitative methods, and the evaluation model for evaluating judges is built. The accuracy and efficiency of the model are verified by case analysis using the model and data visualization methods. The research results provide valuable help for improving the evaluation quality and efficiency of the judges. © 2022 IEEE.

Nanoparticles made of different materials usually support optical resonances in the visible to near infrared spectral range,such as the localized surface plasmons observed in metallic nanoparticles and the Mie resonances observed in dielectric *** optical resonances,which are important for practical applications,depend strongly on the morphologies of *** irradiation is a simple but effective way to modify such optical resonances through the change in the morphology of a *** laser-induced shaping of metallic nanoparticles has been successfully demonstrated,it remains a big challenge for dielectric nanoparticles due to their larger Young’s modulus and smaller thermal ***,we proposed and demonstrated a strategy for realizing controllable shaping of high-index dielectric nanoparticles by exploiting the giant optical force induced by femtosecond laser *** was found that both Si and Ge nanoparticles can be lit up by resonantly exciting the optical resonances with femtosecond laser pulses,leading to the luminescence burst when the laser power exceeds a *** addition,the morphologies of Si and Ge nanoparticles can be modified by utilizing the giant absorption force exerted on them and the reduced Young’s modulus at high *** shape transformation from sphere to ellipsoid can be realized by laser irradiation,leading to the blueshifts of the optical *** was found that Si and Ge nanoparticles were generally elongated along the direction parallel to the polarization of the laser *** shaping of Si and Ge can be achieved by deliberately adjusting the excitation wavelength and the laser *** findings are helpful for understanding the giant absorption force of femtosecond laser light and are useful for designing nanoscale photonic devices based on shaped highindex nanoparticles.

Simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithm is widely used in unmanned and robotic applications. SLAM usually uses sensor data, which are from the LiDAR, the inertial measurement unit (IMU) and the wheeled odometry, to build maps of the surrounding environment. However, the motion distortion of LiDAR data and the error accumulation of wheeled odometry can affect the accuracy of the front-end odometry of the SLAM algorithm, which can lead to serious errors in the maps created. Therefore, in order to solve the problem of poor map construction results of SLAM algorithm due to various types of sensor errors. we propose the traceless Kalman filtering based (UKF-based) multi-sensor data processing algorithm. Firstly, the proposed algorithm uses the UKF to fuse IMU and wheeled odometry data to reduce the cumulative error of wheeled odometry. And then the algorithm uses IMU and corrected wheeled odometry data and combines with the motion states of the robot to solve the motion distortion problem of LiDAR data. Finally, we verified the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm for wheeled odometry data correction in Gazebo simulation environment and real environment experiments, and compared the mapping effectiveness of SLAM by using the original data and the data processed by our algorithm. The experimental results show that the map construction effect of SLAM algorithm is significantly improved when using the sensor data processed by the algorithm. Experimental validation on the robot shows that the proposed algorithm has universal applicability and good compatibility. © 2023 IEEE.

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a photonic method for wideband multipath self-interference cancellation using a silicon photonic modulator *** chip generates phase-inverted reference signals by leveraging the opposite phase between optical *** managing amplitude and phase imbalances between self-interference and reference signals,the approach rectifies discrepancies through consistent chip manufacturing and packaging *** photonic multi-dimensional multiplexing,including wavelength and polarization,enables the acquisition of multiple reference *** results show multipath cancellation depths of 25.53 dB and 23.81 dB for bandwidths of 500 MHz and 1 GHz,achieved by superimposing 2-path reference signals.

TID radiation induced damage in metal/p-GaN/AlGaN/GaN gate stack of p-GaN gate HEMTs is studied and the damage mechanisms highly correlated with electric field are revealed. For on-state bias, irradiation damages related to donor-like traps are located at the reverse-biased metal/p-GaN Schottky junction with high electric field. The depletion region in the Schottky junction would extend, and the trap-assisted tunneling mechanism could be introduced to increase the forward gate current. For off-state bias, irradiation damages are located at the reverse-biased p-GaN/AlGaN/GaN (p-i-n) junction in relation to holes trapped in the AlGaN barrier and the GaN channel. The energy barrier of the AlGaN barrier and the GaN channel would be lowered for electron injection, leading to reverse gate current and off-state drain leakage current increasing. Irradiation induced damage at the Schottky junction may be permanent, while the p-i-n junction damage is recoverable with time. © 2023 IEEE.

Salt marsh plants play a vital role in mediating nitrogen(N)biogeochemical cycle in estuarine and coastal ***,the effects of invasive Spartina alterniflora on N fixation and removal,as well as how these two processes balance to determine the N budget,remain ***,simultaneous quantifications of N fixation and removal via^(15)N tracing experiment with native Phragmites australis,invasive ***,and bare flats as well as corresponding functional gene abundance by qPCR were carried out to explore the response of N dynamics to *** *** results showed that N fixation and removal rates ranged from 0.77±0.08 to 16.12±1.13 nmol/(g·h)and from 1.42±0.14 to 16.35±1.10 nmol/(g·h),respectively,and invasive *** generally facilitated the two processes *** on the difference between N removal and fixation rates,net N_(2)fluxes were estimated in the range of-0.39±0.14 to 8.24±2.23 nmol/(g·h).Estimated net N_(2)fluxes in *** stands were lower than those in bare flats and *** stands,indicating that the increase in N removal caused by *** invasion may be more than offset by N fixation *** forest analysis revealed that functional microorganisms were the most important factor associated with the corresponding N transformation ***,our results highlight the importance of N fixation in evaluating N budget of estuarine and coastal wetlands,providing valuable insights into the ecological effect of *** invasion.

The need for high-performance optoelectronic functional materials has increased in recent years due to the expansion of the optoelectronic information sector. Potassium Titanium Oxygen Phosphate (KTiOPO4,KTP) is internationally recognized as a material with excellent comprehensive optoelectronic performance. After periodic polarization, KTiOPO4(PPKTP) can produce laser and entangled photon outputs of any wavelength within the crystal transmittance range using quasi-phase matching (QPM) technology, making it an ideal material for generating entangled photons for efficient frequency conversion and quantum communication. Its applications include laser manufacturing, quantum communication, electro-optical modulators, and optical waveguide devices. In this paper, the preparation of PPKTP crystal materials, the current status of development at home and abroad, and the applications in the quantum field are reviewed, and some challenges encountered in the preparation of the current hydrothermal PPKTP are also highlighted, and in future related research, the solution of these challenges is of great significance to improve the quality of the polarization reversal of the PPKTP and to promote the device's wider application. © 2024 SPIE.

Organic light-emitting transistors(OLETs)have attracted increasing attention because of their potential applications in next-generation displays and high-energy operating ***,the simultaneous achievement of high luminescent efficiency and carrier mobility in organic semiconductors remains challenging because the localized excitons are advantageous for light emission,whereas the delocalized carriers are beneficial for efficient charge ***,we report an organic single crystal of a cyano-substituted styrene derivative with balanced mobility yielding a record-high external quantum efficiency of 20.5%in ***-dependent I–V curves and electronic structure analyses based on firstprinciples calculations were performed to disclose the underlying mechanism as a band transport,which provides an efficient way to achieve high quantum efficiency in OLETs.
