This study proposes a model for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) diagnosis called the Connectome Graph Attention Network (CGAT), designed to improve the classification of AD stages. By integrating multimodal neuroimaging data and clinical diagnosis information, CGAT constructs a connectome graph for each individual, with brain regions as nodes and the connections between them as edges. CGAT enhances classification by employing an attention mechanism that highlights critical brain region connections. A unique feature of the model is its capacity to merge features from diverse imaging modalities effectively, using modality-specific loss weighting to ensure balanced data contribution in the final classification. Developed in PyTorch Geometric (PyG), CGAT was optimized through the NNI AutoML toolkit. The model demonstrated a notable AUROC score of 94.00, outperforming other graph-based models like GCN, GraphSAGE, GGNN, and ChebNet, especially in differentiating EMCI from LMCI. Visualizations using t-SNE revealed CGAT's ability to distinctly separate cognitive states, emphasizing important connections among brain regions. Overall, CGAT efficiently combines multimodal neuroimaging data for improved, multi-class AD stage classification. © 2025 The Author(s)

On Shaping Gain of Multidimensional Constellations in Linear and Nonlinear Optical Fiber Channel

Utilizing the multi-dimensional (MD) space for constellation shaping has been proven to be an effective approach for achieving shaping gains. Despite there exists a variety of MD modulation formats tailored for specific optical transmission scenarios, there remains a notable absence of a dependable comparison method for efficiently and promptly re-evaluating their performance in arbitrary transmission systems. In this paper, we introduce an analytical nonlinear interference (NLI) power model-based shaping gain estimation method to enable a fast performance evaluation of various MD modulation formats in coherent dual-polarization (DP) optical transmission system. In order to extend the applicability of this method to a broader set of modulation formats, we extend the established NLI model to take the 4D joint distribution into account and thus able to analyze the complex interactions of non-iid signaling in DP systems. With the help of the NLI model, we conduct a comprehensive analysis of the state-of-the-art modulation formats and investigate their actual shaping gains in two types of optical fiber communication scenarios (multi-span and single-span). The numerical simulation shows that for arbitrary modulation formats, the NLI power and relative shaping gains in terms of signal-to-noise ratio can be more accurately estimated by capturing the statistics of MD symbols. Furthermore, the proposed method further validates the effectiveness of the reported NLI-tolerant modulation format in the literature, which reveals that the linear shaping gains and modulation-dependent NLI should be jointly considered for nonlinearity mitigation. © 1983-2012 IEEE.

An with effective ensemble classifier for network intrusion detection system

The increasing frequency of network attacks poses a significant challenge in maintaining network security. In response to security vulnerabilities, the employment of Intrusion Detection systems (IDS) has become crucial. An IDS is a software application, which monitors network traffic to monitor and identify various malicious actions in the network. Network Intrusion Detection systems (NIDS) specifically examine network traffic to identify and monitor the various malicious activities identified by the network nodes. However, many existing IDS solutions encounter difficulties in achieving optimal feature selection, aiming for high classification accuracy while minimizing false alarm rates. In the proposed system, the Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) technique is employed to reduce the dataset dimensionality. Further, an Enhanced Whale Optimization Algorithm (EWOA) is utilized for efficient feature selection for global optimization tasks. To perform classification, an ensemble classifier is proposed which employs Random Forest (RF) and XGBoost. The main objective of the proposed approach is to improve classification accuracy while minimizing the false alarm rate by combining the benefits of RF and XGBoost. The proposed work is implemented by using the python jupyter framework. The experimental results show that the proposed system has an overall classification accuracy of 96.08%, a false alarm rate of 0.01%, and an overall detection rate of 94.03%, by using the NSL-KDD dataset when it is compared with their counterparts. © The Author(s).

The ever-evolving Internet of Things (IoT) has ushered in a new era of intelligent manufacturing across multiple industries. However, the security and privacy of real-time data transmitted over the public channel of the industrial IoT (IIoT) remain formidable challenges. Existing lightweight protocols often omit one or more critical security features, such as anonymity and untraceability, and are susceptible to threats like desynchronization attacks. Additionally, they struggle to achieve an optimal balance between robust security and performance efficiency. To bridge these gaps, we introduce a new lightweight key agreement security scheme that guarantees secure access to the IIoT-enabled flexible manufacturing system (FMS). The strength of our scheme lies in its utilization of the authenticated encryption with associative data (AEAD) primitive, AEGIS, along with hash functions and physical unclonable functions, which secure the IIoT ecosystem. Additionally, our scheme offers flexibility in the form of the addition of new machines, password updates, and revocation in cases of theft or loss. A comprehensive security analysis demonstrates the efficacy of the proposed scheme in thwarting various attacks. The formal analysis, based on the Real-Or-Random (RoR) model, ensures session key indistinguishability, while the informal analysis highlights its resilience against known attacks. The comparative assessment demonstrate that the proposed scheme consistently outperforms the benchmark schemes across multiple dimensions, including security and functionality features, computational and communication overheads, and runtime efficiency. Specifically, the proposed scheme achieves peak performance enhancements of 77.55%, 44.73%, and 69.6% in computational overhead, runtime overhead, and communication overhead, respectively, underscoring its substantial performance advantages. © 2025 IEEE.

The phenomenon of atmospheric haze arises due to the scattering of light by minute particles suspended in the atmosphere. This optical effect gives rise to visual degradation in images and videos. The degradation is primarily influenced by two key factors: atmospheric attenuation and scattered light. Scattered light causes an image to be veiled in a whitish veil, while attenuation diminishes the image inherent contrast. Efforts to enhance image and video quality necessitate the development of dehazing techniques capable of mitigating the adverse impact of haze. This scholarly endeavor presents a comprehensive survey of recent advancements in the domain of dehazing techniques, encompassing both conventional methodologies and those founded on machine learning principles. Traditional dehazing techniques leverage a haze model to deduce a dehazed rendition of an image or frame. In contrast, learning-based techniques employ sophisticated mechanisms such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and different deep Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to create models that can discern dehazed representations by learning intricate parameters like transmission maps, atmospheric light conditions, or their combined effects. Furthermore, some learning-based approaches facilitate the direct generation of dehazed outputs from hazy inputs by assimilating the non-linear mapping between the two. This review study delves into a comprehensive examination of datasets utilized within learning-based dehazing methodologies, elucidating their characteristics and relevance. Furthermore, a systematic exposition of the merits and demerits inherent in distinct dehazing techniques is presented. The discourse culminates in the synthesis of the primary quandaries and challenges confronted by prevailing dehazing techniques. Grasping is a critical motor skill essential for daily activities, but it is often compromised in individuals with neural impairments. Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) has emerged as a promising intervention, utilizing electrical pulses to stimulate muscles and thereby restore impaired motor functions. However, existing closed-loop FES systems depend on pre-calibrated angles or forces specific to individual objects, which limits their practicality in dynamic, real-world environments with varying object properties. This paper presents a novel closed-loop FES (CLFES) system with visual feedback, designed to dynamically adjust stimulation parameters based on real-time interaction states without requiring object-specific calibration. The system employs a finite state machine to manage sequential grasp-release tasks and integrates a visual perception module for slip detection and intent recognition. The system was tested with two individuals with disabilities on five common household objects. Experimental results demonstrate significant improvements, including a 42.6% increase in success rate and a 45.9% reduction in task completion time compared to tasks performed without the system. These results underscore the system's potential to improve daily task performance for individuals with neural impairments. © 2018 IEEE.

Aggression detection from memes is challenging due to their region-specific interpretation and multimodal nature. Detecting or classifying aggressive memes is complicated in low-resource languages (including Bengali) because benchmark datasets and primary language processing software are needed. This paper proposes an innovative meme classification technique that harnesses deep learning (DL) approaches to leverage memes’ visual and textual features in Bengali. Various DL frameworks, such as VGG16, VGG19, ResNet50, CNN, BiLSTM, and BiLSTM+CNN, extract visual and textual features from memes. A novel corpus named the Bengali Meme Dataset (AMemD) is also introduced, comprising a substantial amount of multimodal data, including text and image components. Experimental results on AMemD demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The CNN combined with VGG16 obtained the highest f1-score of 0.738 among all multimodal techniques tested. This pioneering research offers valuable insights into the complex task of aggression detection from memes in Bengali and provides a foundation for future studies in this area. In order to address the challenges of high propagation delays and limited service capabilities in maritime satellite communications, unmanned aerial vehicles have been proposed as an airborne backhaul solution to enhance communications between satellites and maritime base stations. The non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) framework can solve the user sparsity problem in maritime networks. In this paper, a deep reinforcement learning algorithm is used to solve the nonconvex power allocation problem under NOMA. In order to mitigate the risk of overestimation of Q values and local optimal convergence of Deep Q Network (DQN) algorithm, we propose an algorithm called Soft Agent Critical Ocean Satellite Communication Power Allocation (SAC-OSCPA) based on the idea of maximum entropy and compare it with the traditional DQN algorithm. The main goal of this research is to maximize network throughput in scenarios with randomly distributed users. Simulation results show that the average system throughput is improved by 13.18% with the SAC-OSCPA algorithm, and the average throughput of the worst performing user is significantly improved by 41.59%. These results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm in optimizing the communication performance of maritime satellite networks. © ICST Institute for Computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering 2025.
