Laser Scribed CNTs/PEEK/TPU Composites Film for High-Performance Stretchable Electrodes

In this article, an elastic composite material comprising carbon nanotubes (CNTs), polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK), and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is presented, in which direct laser-induced graphitization was used to fabricate high-performance stretchable electrodes. The introduction of CNTs can enhance the conductivity and mechanical strength of the composites, thus improving the overall performance of the sensors. Flexible strain sensors with porous structures were prepared by appropriate encapsulation methods, which exhibited superior gauge factors (GFs) of 72, 367, and 972 in the 0%–30%, 30%–44%, and 44%–53% strain regions, respectively. Furthermore, it features a rapid response time (100 ms), excellent stability and durability, and is capable of detecting both large-scale human movement and monitoring of small physical signals. In addition, patterned laser-induced graphene interdigital electrodes (LIG-IDEs) were fabricated on composites using laser light. Highly sensitive humidity sensors were obtained using graphene oxide as the humidity-sensing material for respiratory monitoring and noncontact sensing. The thermoplastic properties of TPU allow the straight fiber to be thermoformed into highly stretchable helical electrode, which was of a helix index of 5 and with a high-quality factor (Q = 130) at 1250% strain. In conclusion, the preparation of LIG on stretchable composite films by direct laser scribing shows a promising approach for large-scale fabrication of wearable devices. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

In numerous studies, orthogonal time-frequency space (OTFS) has been utilized in satellite-terrestrial communication systems with high mobility due to its strong adaptability to Doppler shifts and delays. Signal detection, a crucial technology influencing OTFS performance, is often hindered by high complexity or suboptimal detection capabilities. To address this, we propose a Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KANs)-based OTFS signal detection method for low Earth orbit satellite (LEO-Sat) communication systems. KANs employ learnable activation functions instead of traditional learnable linear weights between network nodes, enabling dynamic activation functions to enhance model accuracy. We integrate KANs, trained offline, into the LEO-Sat system to recover distorted signals at the receiver, facilitating effective signal detection. Compared to conventional detection algorithms, the proposed method demonstrates superior Bit Error Rate (BER) performance. Additionally, KANs are more parameter-efficient than DNNs, using significantly fewer parameters. © ICST Institute for Computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering 2025.

Digital Twins (DTs), serving personalized cloud-based digital assistants, hold great promise for supporting infotainment applications of the Internet of Vehicles (IoVs), in which personalized content such as high-definition maps, system updates, and social video streaming can be delivered from individualized DTs to vehicular users (VUEs) to enhance the intelligence of IoV services and improve their driving experience. This paper proposes a novel content caching framework tailored to DT-enabled IoVs, where DTs selectively cache on-demand contents on edge devices (i.e., cellular base stations and roadside units) managed by the edge service manager (ESM) along the VUE's trip to avoid backbone congestion yet save download time. However, ESMs are inherently selfish and reluctant to contribute resources to cache contents without benefits. Furthermore, considering the diverse trajectories of vehicles, it is inefficient to cache data along a single path. To address these challenges, we propose ACDV, which first models the interactions between the ESMs and DTs as a Stackelberg game to incentivize ESMs to actively participate in the content caching process. We then deploy a Markov model to predict the VUE distribution, which enables DTs to cache contents with a focus on predicted trajectories. To save storage costs, we derive an upper bound of content sizes that the VUE can download within a limited network connection time. Considering the lack of network information and users' private utility model in practical scenarios, we further develop a learning-based algorithm to find the optimal pricing scheme and content size strategies of ESMs and DTs. Through extensive simulations, we show that our proposal can effectively find the optimal strategy and achieve a fast convergence speed and high-level performance compared to the baselines. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

We report the broadband optical nonlinearities and ultrafast carrier dynamics of GO doped with CuS nanoparticles (GO-CuS) following the femtosecond pulse lasers. Both the pure GO and GO-CuS hybrid films are first synthesized by the vacuum filter deposition method and their optical nonlinearities are then examined in the wide wavelength range (400 nm-1064 nm) based on the femtosecond Z-scan technique. The results reveal that, compared to the pristine GO, the introduction of CuS not only makes the GO-CuS hybrid film switched from saturated absorption to reverse saturated absorption possible, but also achieves strong broadband optical nonlinear absorption responses and optical limiting effects. It is demonstrated that the strongest nonlinear absorption coefficient (∼3.6×10-7 m/W) appears at 400 nm excitation, which is dozens of times larger than that under the illumination of 1064 nm. By leveraging the femtosecond pump-probe technique, we further study the ultrafast carrier dynamics of the GO-CuS hybrid film carrying the fast and slow relaxation processes. Moreover, the physical mechanisms behind these excellent nonlinear optical responses are elucidated. The findings presented here indicate that the GO-CuS hybrid film can be regarded as a potential promising candidate in various ultrafast photonics devices. © 1983-2012 IEEE.

Rotating machinery is critical in industries such as wind power, aerospace, and manufacturing. These machines often operate under high loads and intense conditions, leading to frequent failures in critical components like bearings and gears. Such failures can result in significant economic losses and safety concerns. Fault diagnosis technology, which uses operational data to analyze and identify fault types, is essential for maintaining reliable operation. Traditional vibration signal analysis is effective but costly and invasive, while acoustic analysis is non-invasive and cost-effective but vulnerable to environmental noise. In contrast, three-phase current signals, measured using current transformers, offer a low-cost, minimally invasive alternative with excellent noise resistance. This paper proposes a method for fault diagnosis using three-phase current signals. The method employs Butterworth filtering to improve the signal-to-noise ratio, followed by advanced data analysis techniques such as multi-scale feature extraction and a multi-channel attention mechanism to realized fault diagnosis of rotating machinery. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in achieving accurate fault detection, with a diagnostic accuracy of 96.11%. The proposed method shows robust diagnostic capabilities across various operating conditions. © 2025 IEEE.

Energy conservation is an indispensable aspect of the protocols designed for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). The communication protocols for WSN fall mainly under two categories: centralized and distributed. Centralized protocols are not feasible for real-world WSNs as the network can span across large areas where most of the nodes cannot directly communicate with the base station (BS). The routing issues in such networks can be addressed using multi-hop protocols. However, the process of BS guided clustering in such methods cannot be performed. Distributed clustering methods that minimize the intervention of BS in clustering can provide feasible solutions in such cases, but the energy expenditure is considerably high. This paper, hence, proposes a hybrid clustering based routing protocol for large WSN that employs certain aspects of centralized as well as that of distributed protocols. Experimental evaluation of the proposed protocol in terms of network lifetime gives promising results that clearly indicate the energy efficiency and consistency of the proposed work in different scenarios. The proposed work can prove beneficial in real-life scenarios where the deployed nodes are far away from the BS. © 2025 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

The rapid evolution of wireless communication technologies and the increasing demand for multi-functional systems have led to the emergence of integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) as a key enabler for future 6G networks. Simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (STAR-RISs) have recently garnered significant attention for their ability to enhance signal coverage and improve system efficiency. This paper investigates a STAR-RIS-assisted ISAC system designed to secure communication for multiple legitimate users (LUs) while safeguarding against multiple eavesdroppers (Eves). By jointly optimizing the base station (BS) transmit beamforming, STAR-RIS transmission and reflection coefficients, and receive filters, the proposed framework aims to maximize the long-term average secrecy rate for all LUs. Constraints are imposed to ensure minimum echo signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) for sensing and meet the achievable rate requirements of LUs. To address the inherent complexity of this non-convex problem, two deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithms are proposed. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed system achieves significant improvements in secrecy rate compared to conventional RIS setups. This work provides a scalable and efficient approach for secure multi-user ISAC systems, making it highly relevant for future 6G networks, smart cities, and IoT applications. © 2025 The Authors.

With recent advancements in industrial robots, educating students in new technologies and preparing them for the future is imperative. However, access to industrial robots for teaching poses challenges, such as the high cost of acquiring these robots, the safety of the operator and the robot, and complicated training material. This paper proposes two low-cost platforms built using open-source tools like Robot Operating System (ROS) and its latest version ROS 2 to help students learn and test algorithms on remotely connected industrial robots. Universal Robotics (UR5) arm and a custom mobile rover were deployed in different life-size testbeds, a greenhouse, and a warehouse to create an Autonomous Agricultural Harvester System (AAHS) and an Autonomous Warehouse Management System (AWMS). These platforms were deployed for a period of 7 months and were tested for their efficacy with 1,433 and 1,312 students, respectively. The hardware used in AAHS and AWMS was controlled remotely for 160 and 355 hours, respectively, by students over a period of 3 months. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

A computing system that is based on the internet and offers users all resources as on-demand services. Servers, storage, databases, software, and networking are among these on-demand services. Usually, the user must pay for the use of the resources;they are not their property. The number of people using this technology is increasing dramatically as a result of these features. Although it has benefits, cloud computing poses certain security and privacy risks. The authorized user’s data can be stolen easily. This current research thoroughly investigates modern strategies to these problems, highlighting identity management protocols, effective encryption and blockchain-based solutions. The article identifies research gaps, focuses attention to the inadequacies of current approaches, and recommends the possible ways to improve the efficiency, scalability and trustworthiness. © 2025 IEEE.
