AttentionPoolMobileNeXt: An automated construction damage detection model based on a new convolutional neural network and deep feature engineering models

In 2023, Turkiye faced a series of devastating earthquakes and these earthquakes affected millions of people due to damaged constructions. These earthquakes demonstrated the urgent need for advanced automated damage detection models to help people. This study introduces a novel solution to address this challenge through the AttentionPoolMobileNeXt model, derived from a modified MobileNetV2 architecture. To rigorously evaluate the effectiveness of the model, we meticulously curated a dataset comprising instances of construction damage classified into five distinct classes. Upon applying this dataset to the AttentionPoolMobileNeXt model, we obtained an accuracy of 97%. In this work, we have created a dataset consisting of five distinct damage classes, and achieved 97% test accuracy using our proposed AttentionPoolMobileNeXt model. Additionally, the study extends its impact by introducing the AttentionPoolMobileNeXt-based Deep Feature engineering (DFE) model, further enhancing the classification performance and interpretability of the system. The presented DFE significantly increased the test classification accuracy from 90.17% to 97%, yielding improvement over the baseline model. AttentionPoolMobileNeXt and its DFE counterpart collectively contribute to advancing the state-of-the-art in automated damage detection, offering valuable insights for disaster response and recovery efforts. © The Author(s) 2024.

Children's physical, mental and emotional development depends heavily on sleep, with age-specific sleep needs fluctuating. Malnutrition may result from eating too little, absorbing nutrients poorly, being unwell, living in poverty or not knowing enough about nutrition. Food allergies and iron insufficiency are two examples of illnesses whose onsets might differ depending on environmental exposures and genetics. By providing proper diet, getting medical attention when necessary and encouraging healthy behaviors, parents play a crucial role in supporting their children's health. For children to grow and develop properly, they need meals high in fruits, vegetables, milk, protein, calcium, iron and fiber. Key advantages of a balanced diet include aiding bone formation, improving heart health and encouraging regular bowel motions and digestion. In general, children's general health and wellness depend on caregivers being aware of their dietary requirements and giving them the proper attention. The findings of the research imply that machine learning algorithms may be useful in understanding and predicting the prevalence of malnutrition in children. Furthermore, these algorithms could provide perceptive data that might help politicians create effective policies. In this research, we make use of five different machine learning algorithms. With a decision tree, the accuracy is 0.92%, followed by svm which provides 0.91%, KNN, which provides 0.84%, GBM classifier, which provides 0.79% and random forest, which provides 0.65%. © 2025 IEEE.

Effective student management is crucial for fostering productive learning environments. This study presents a hybrid framework integrating machine learning (ML) techniques with rough set theory to enhance student management by identifying at-risk students and enabling personalized interventions. The model combines classification algorithms with rough set-based decision rules to analyze complex student data, including academic performance, behavior patterns, and levels of engagement. The ML layered approach detects patterns and outliers, supporting data-driven decisions to improve student well-being and educational outcomes. Evaluation on the Open University Learning Analytics Dataset (OULAD) demonstrated high accuracy (97.85%) in predicting student outcomes and precision (94.62%) in identifying students needing support. The hybrid approach outperformed conventional methods by approximately 15%, showcasing its transformative potential. This framework effectively monitors student performance and enables customized interventions to meet individual learning needs, fostering a more supportive educational environment. © 2013 IEEE.

Social media networks play a major role in expressing people's feelings, reviews, and thoughts. One of the popular linguistic patterns to express or criticize one's ideas with ridicule is sarcasm, where they have unintended and intended meanings in written text. The sarcastic text is used to reverse the polarity of the sentiment. As a result, sarcasm detection in the text positively affects the sentimental analysis (SA) tasks and improves accuracy. The sarcasm recognition of Arabic content is constrained even though Arabic is the most popular language for web content sharing, and yet still naive owing to various challenges, such as the insufficient data sources, the multiple dialects, and the morphological structure of the Arabic language. This study presents an Artificial Intelligence Driven Sarcasm Detection using Optimal Deep Learning (AIDSD-ODL) technique on Arabic tweets. In the AIDSD-ODL technique, a hyperparameter-tuned DL model is utilized to identify sarcastic or non-sarcastic Arabic tweets. At the initial stage, the AIDSD-ODL method undergoes data pre-processing to convert the input tweets into a compatible format. In the next phase, the Glove word embedding process is used in the AIDSD-ODL technique. The self-attention bidirectional long short-term memory (SA-BiLSTM) model is utilized for sarcasm detection. The Al-Biruni Earth Radius (BER) model is implemented for the hyperparameter selection process to enhance the performance of the SA-BiLSTM network. The experimental results of the AIDSD-ODL method are examined under the Arabic tweets dataset. The comparison study of the AIDSD-ODL method portrayed a superior accuracy value of 94.20 % over existing models. © 2025 The Authors

As vehicular edge computing and networks (VECONs) emerge, Internet of vehicles (IoVs) is gaining significant advantages. To provide users with dependable services, VECONs need to offer efficient and secure task offloading services. Unfortunately, little effort has been put into addressing security issues such as the risk of privacy exposure when offloading data. Modeling and optimizing offloading dependability are affected by these issues. To address these concerns, a dependable three-layer offloading framework involving blockchain technology is presented in this paper, with fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) algorithm incorporated in order to mitigate privacy exposure risks. The framework divides tasks reasonably and introduces a novel measure of offloading dependability called cost from energy consumption, delay, and privacy exposure risk (cEDP) for constructing dependable offloading optimization. Additionally, a self-learning based dependable privacy preservation offloading (SDPPO) algorithm is presented that is capable of solving the optimal offloading problem in a decentralized manner. Simulation results show that the SDPPO algorithm outperforms its counterparts in terms of faster convergence speed, better cEDP convergence results, and improved scalability and tunability characteristics. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Contrastive learning of cross-modal information enhancement for multimodal fake news detection

With the rapid development of the Internet, the existence of fake news and its rapid spread has brought many negative effects to the society. Consequently, the fake news detection task has become increasingly important over the past few years. Existing methods are predominantly unimodal methods or the multimodal representation of unimodal fusion for fake news detection. However, the large number of model parameters and the interference of noisy data increase the risk of overfitting. Thus, we construct an information enhancement and contrast learning framework by introducing Improved Low-rank Multimodal Fusion approach for Fake News Detection (ILMF-FND), which aims to reduce the noise interference and achieve efficient fusion of multimodal feature vectors with fewer parameters. In detail, an encoder extracts the feature vectors of text and images, which are subsequently refined using the Multi-gate Mixture-of-Experts. The refined features are mapped into the same space for semanteme sharing. Then, a cross-modal fusion is performed, resulting in that an efficient and highly precision fusion of text and image features is done with fewer parameters. Besides, we design an adaptive mechanism that can adjust the weights of the final components according to the modal fitness before inputting them into the classifier to achieve the best detection results in the current state. We evaluate the performance of ILMF-FND and the competitive baselines on two public datasets, i.e., Twitter and Weibo. The results indicate that our ILMF-FND greatly minimizes the number of parameters while outperforming the best baseline in terms of accuracy by 0.2% and 1.1% on the Weibo and Twitter datasets, respectively.

iESTA: Instance-Enhanced Spatial–Temporal Alignment for Video Copy Localization

Video copy Segment Localization (VSL) requires the identification of the temporal segments within a pair of videos that contain copied content. Current methods primarily focus on global temporal modeling, overlooking the complementarity of global semantic and local fine-grained features, which limits their effectiveness. Some related methods attempt to incorporate local spatial information but often disrupt spatial semantic structures, resulting in less accurate matching. To address these issues, we propose the Instance-Enhanced Spatial-Temporal Alignment Framework (iESTA), based on a proper representation granularity that integrates instance-level local features and semantic global features. Specifically, the Instance-relation Graph (IRG) is constructed to capture instance-level features and fine-grained interactions, preserving local information integrity and better representing the video feature space in a proper granularity. An instance-GNN structure is designed to refine these graph representations. For global features, we enhance the representation of semantic information, capturing temporal relationships within videos using a Transformer framework. Additionally, we design a Complementarity-perception Alignment Module (CAM) to effectively process and integrate complementary spatial-temporal information, producing accurate frame-to-frame alignment maps. Our approach also incorporates a differentiable Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) method to utilize latent temporal alignments as weak supervisory signals, improving the accuracy of the matching process. Experimental results indicate that our proposed iESTA outperforms state-of-the-art methods on both the small-scale dataset VCDB and the large-scale dataset VCSL. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Due to the lack of effective mpox detection tools, the mpox virus continues to spread worldwide and has been once again declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization. Lightweight deep learning model-based detection systems are crucial to alleviate mpox outbreaks since they are suitable for widespread deployment, especially in resource-limited scenarios. However, the key to its successful application depends on ensuring that the model can effectively model local features and long-range dependencies in mpox lesions while maintaining lightweight. Inspired by the success of Mamba in modeling long-range dependencies and its linear complexity, we proposed a lightweight hybrid architecture called MpoxMamba for efficient mpox detection. MpoxMamba utilizes depth-wise separable convolutions to extract local feature representations in mpox skin lesions and greatly enhances the model's ability to model the global contextual information by grouped Mamba modules. Notably, MpoxMamba's parameter size and FLOPs are 0.77M and 0.53G, respectively. Experimental results on two widely recognized benchmark datasets demonstrate that MpoxMamba outperforms state-of-the-art lightweight models and existing mpox detection methods. Importantly, we developed a web-based online application to provide free mpox detection. The proposed system for recognizing Myanmar sign language between individuals who are deaf. The aim of this study is to develop deep learning models for the purpose of accurately identifying dynamic hand gesture images depicting 14 classes of Myanmar words and numbers. The present system utilizes a new dataset comprising 7834 images for 14 classes obtained through Webcam. The objective of this study is to enhance the robustness of the new model. Next, we proceed to evaluate the proposed model by comparing them to those of existing convolutional neural network models. These models are generally recognized as effective deep-learning approaches for recognition tasks. The proposed model exhibits a performance level of 96% for both validation and testing accuracies. Furthermore, the experimental finding demonstrates that the model, convolutional layers, achieved an accuracy of 100% in recognizing Myanmar Sign Language (MSL). © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
