EFS-XGBoost: A robust framework for precision classification of COVID-19 cases

The emergence of the novel COVID-19 virus has had a profound impact on global healthcare systems and economies, underscoring the imperative need for the development of precise and expeditious diagnostic tools. Machine learning techniques have emerged as a promising avenue for augmenting the capabilities of medical professionals in disease diagnosis and classification. In this research, the EFS-XGBoost classifier model, a robust approach for the classification of patients afflicted with COVID-19 is proposed. The key innovation in the proposed model lies in the Ensemble-based Feature Selection (EFS) strategy, which enables the judicious selection of relevant features from the expansive COVID-19 dataset. Subsequently, the power of the eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) classifier to make precise distinctions among COVID-19-infected patients is *** EFS methodology amalgamates five distinctive feature selection techniques, encompassing correlation-based, chi-squared, information gain, symmetric uncertainty-based, and gain ratio approaches. To evaluate the effectiveness of the model, comprehensive experiments were conducted using a COVID-19 dataset procured from Kaggle, and the implementation was executed using Python programming. The performance of the proposed EFS-XGBoost model was gauged by employing well-established metrics that measure classification accuracy, including accuracy, precision, recall, and the F1-Score. Furthermore, an in-depth comparative analysis was conducted by considering the performance of the XGBoost classifier under various scenarios: employing all features within the dataset without any feature selection technique, and utilizing each feature selection technique in isolation. The meticulous evaluation reveals that the proposed EFS-XGBoost model excels in performance, achieving an astounding accuracy rate of 99.8%, surpassing the efficacy of other prevailing feature selection techniques. Efficient energy management is a cornerstone of advancing cognitive cities,where AI,IoT,and cloud computing seamlessly integrate to meet escalating global energy *** this context,the ability to forecast electricity consumption with precision is vital,particularly in residential settings where usage patterns are highly variable and *** study presents an innovative approach to energy consumption forecasting using a bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)*** a dataset containing over twomillionmultivariate,time-series observations collected froma single household over nearly four years,ourmodel addresses the limitations of traditional time-series forecasting methods,which often struggle with temporal dependencies and non-linear *** bidirectional LSTM architecture processes data in both forward and backward directions,capturing past and future contexts at each time step,whereas existing unidirectional LSTMs consider only a single temporal *** design,combined with dropout regularization,leads to a 20.6%reduction in RMSE and an 18.8%improvement in MAE over conventional unidirectional LSTMs,demonstrating a substantial enhancement in prediction accuracy and *** to existing models—including SVM,Random Forest,MLP,ANN,and CNN—the proposed model achieves the lowest MAE of 0.0831 and RMSE of 0.2213 during testing,significantly outperforming these *** results highlight the model’s superior ability to navigate the complexities of energy usage patterns,reinforcing its potential application in AI-driven IoT and cloud-enabled energy management systems for cognitive *** integrating advanced machine learning techniqueswith IoT and cloud infrastructure,this research contributes to the development of intelligent,sustainable urban environments.

The primary objective of this research is to develop and promote efficient and secure de-identification technology to address the application of sensitive personal information in healthcare big data. Considering the outstanding performance of large language models (such as GPT) in understanding text, we aim to utilize these advanced models to process medical records. Compared to traditional methods such as manual processing, rule-based, or machine learning methods, large language models can more effectively de-identify unstructured medical record data. We can enhance the recognition and de-identification accuracy of personal identification information in medical records through deep learning techniques. Additionally, the contextual understanding capabilities of large language models can comprehensively process medical record data, ensuring that the de-identification process does not affect the integrity and availability of medical information. Therefore, the research methodology will include model training, optimization, and validation to ensure that the developed de-identification technology achieves efficient and reliable results in practical applications. We explore different large language models, considering the diversity of personal medical data to address various de-identification needs in different medical record data. In this article, we propose three research issues for de-identification: 1) Research on the application of deep language models and de-identification technology in medical cases;2) optimization of prompt engineering to enhance de-identification of medical cases by large language models;3) Optimization and promotion of de-identification technology for practical applications in the medical. © (2025), (Femto Technique Co., Ltd.). information compression techniques are majorly employed to reduce communication cost over peer-to-peer links. In this article, we investigate distributed Nash equilibrium (NE) seeking problems in a class of noncooperative games over directed graphs with information compression. To improve communication efficiency, a compressed distributed NE seeking (C-DNES) algorithm is proposed to obtain an NE for games, where the differences between decision vectors and their estimates are compressed. The proposed algorithm is compatible with a general class of compressors, including both unbiased and biased compressors. Moreover, our approach only requires the adjacency matrix of the directed graph to be row-stochastic, in contrast to past works that relied on balancedness or specific global network parameters. It is shown that C-DNES not only inherits the advantages of conventional distributed NE algorithms, achieving linear convergence rate for games with restricted strongly monotone mappings, but also saves communication costs in terms of transmitted bits. Finally, numerical simulations illustrate the advantages of C-DNES in saving communication cost by an order of magnitude under different compressors. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Traffic congestion poses significant challenges to modern cities, leading to increased energy use, pollution, and long commute times. Optimizing public transit systems and encouraging their use is an effective solution. However, public transit integrates various modes like subways, buses, and shared bikes, requiring transfers between modes. Therefore, understanding the relationships between modes and accurately predicting passenger flows for each mode is crucial. Accurate predictions enable better capacity allocation, scheduling, and seamless transfers between modes, enhancing accessibility and convenience to attract more riders. Existing multi-modal prediction methods typically focus on station-to-region or region-to-region flows, overlooking station-to-station predictions that can better capture inter-modal relationships and provide fine-grained insights for traffic management. This study proposes a multi-modal framework for MRT and YouBike data that employs a spatial-temporal module to effectively model the spatiotemporal dependencies in the data. Federated learning (FL) has emerged as a leading approach for decentralized model training, preserving data privacy by exchanging only model parameters. However, recent studies have exposed vulnerabilities, revealing that attackers can reconstruct private data from shared model parameters, compromising user privacy. To address this, various defense methods have been proposed, with gradient perturbation being a lightweight yet effective strategy. However, it often incurs a trade-off with model performance. In this paper, we introduce a lightweight defense mechanism tailored for Federated Stochastic Gradient Descent (FedSGD). Our method leverages maximum gradient values to gauge noise scale, while also preserving and compensating for previous noise iterations to mitigate performance impacts. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Blockchain rewriting is necessary for modifying illegal or messages included in blockchain transactions, while maintaining the consistency of subsequent blocks in the blockchain. However, arbitrary blockchain rewriting is not desirable as it defeats the purpose of blockchain rewriting. In this work, we propose a new security primitive named message-controlled chameleon hash (MCH) and apply it for message control in blockchain rewriting to ensure that no unspecified messages are generated from blockchain rewriting. The proposed MCH enables permitted parties to select candidate messages from designated message sets for blockchain rewriting at the message level. Our evaluation shows that the proposed MCH can be easily integrated into both permissioned and permissionless blockchains. © 2024 IEEE.
