Serverless computing, comprised of Function as a Service (FaaS) and Backend as a Service (BaaS), has garnered widespread attention owning to its features such as maintenance-free operations, pay-per-use pricing, and automatic scalability. However, practical usage encounters several challenges: 1) The diversity of user applications makes comprehensive performance evaluation difficult, as benchmark and application tests only reflect performance under specific conditions and cannot fully capture users’ actual experiences across different serverless platforms. 2) Disparities in performance and costs across different serverless platforms make it challenging to achieve optimal performance and cost efficiency through single-cloud deployment, thereby underutilizing the advantages of each platform. 3) Vendor lock-in issues restrict the migration of user applications and exacerbate dependence on a single cloud *** address these challenges, this paper proposes a collaborative mechanism, referred to as DCSA, which integrates FaaS and storage services to achieve automatic cross-cloud deployment of user applications while considering both performance and cost comprehensively. Firstly, we adapt the interfaces of different serverless platforms, effectively reducing the complexity of cross-cloud deployment. Secondly, we develop cost and latency models for the cross-cloud deployment of chained serverless applications and propose a deployment scheduling algorithm that simultaneously considers both latency and cost. Finally, we conduct experiments to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. Results demonstrate that our method can effectively reduce latency (up to 2.3%) and lower costs (up to 9.9%).

Federated learning (FL) is a decentralized machine learning framework that prioritizes privacy by allowing clients to train statistical models without sharing their private data, thus eliminating the impact of data fortresses. However, the presence of Byzantine attacks, such as data poisoning and backdoor attack, threatens the robustness of FL schemes. Currently, existing mainstream defense methods are susceptible to multiple adaptive attacks, some of which even violate the privacy principle of FL. Furthermore, these defense schemes become less robust when subjected to targeted poisoning attacks with highly non-IID data distributions. In this work, we propose FedNAT, a novel Byzantine-robust FL framework for whittling away these limitations mentioned above. Specifically, FedNAT first performs a privacy-respecting attention refinement on the activation layer outputs of the local uploads. Then, the server scores the local attentions by calculating their Wasserstein distances and clusters them through the k-median algorithm for global attention aggregation, thus rejecting poisoned local attentions for untargeted attacks. After this process, the global attention is transferred to local attention through the FedNAT loss function, which erases backdoors through the distillation concept. We conduct a comprehensive experimental evaluation to demonstrate that FedNAT significantly outperforms existing robust FL schemes in defending against Byzantine poisoning attacks under both IID and highly non-IID data proportions.

Maximum likelihood estimation has been widely adopted along with the encoder-decoder framework for video captioning. However, it ignores the structure of sentences and restrains the diversity and distinction of generated captions. To address this issue, we propose a hard contrastive learning (HCL) method for video captioning. Specifically, built on the encoder-decoder framework, we introduce mismatched pairs to learn a reference distribution of video descriptions. The target model on the matched pairs is learned on top the reference model, which improves the distinctiveness of generated captions. In addition, we further boost the distinctiveness of the captions by developing a hard mining technique to select the hardest mismatched pairs within the contrastive learning framework. Finally, the relationships among multiple relevant captions for each video is consider to encourage the diversity of generated captions. The proposed method generates high quality captions which effectively capture the specialties in individual videos. Extensive experiments on two benchmark datasets, i.e., MSVD and MSR-VTT, show that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art methods.

Basic recursive summation and common dot product algorithm have a backward error bound that grows linearly with the vector dimension. Blanchard [1] proposed a class of fast and accurate summation and dot product algorithms respectively called FABsum and FABdot, which trades off the calculation accuracy and speed by the block size. Castaldo [2] proposed a multi-layer block summation and dot product algorithm called SuperBlocksum and SuperBlockdot that can increase the accuracy while adding almost no additional calculations. We combine the idea of [1] with the multi-layer block structure to propose SuperFABsum (for "super fast and accurate block summation") and SuperFABdot (for "super fast and accurate block dot product"). Our algorithms have two variants, one is SuperFAB(within), the other is SuperFAB(outside). Our algorithms further improve accuracy and speed compared with FAB and SuperBlock. We conducted accuracy and speed tests on the high-performance FT2000+ processor. Experimental results show that SuperFABdot(within) algorithm is more accurate than FABdot and SuperBlockdot. Compared with FABdot, SuperFABdot(outside) algorithm can achieve up to 1.2 × performance speedup while ensuring similar accuracy. © 2022, IFIP International Federation for Information processing.

Exploration is a critical challenge for deep reinforcement learning methods. Although existing works such as actor-critic algorithms have made much progress, most still suffer from the sample inefficiency problem in complex environments where rewards are sparse. Parallel sampling, which uses multiple actors with the same policy interacting with the environment, is an effective approach to improve sample efficiency. However, parallel parameter-sharing actors collect similar samples, which generally hinders the improvement of the overall exploration process. In this paper, we propose a Policy Diversity enhanced approach for parallel Actor-Critic (PDAC). Specifically, we extend the parallel actor-critic architecture to the PDAC framework composed of a shared critic and parallel distinct actors. Then we introduce the KL-divergence of the action probability distribution between parallel actors as the intrinsic reward to encourage actors to explore diverse strategies. We evaluate our approach in multiple challenging procedurally-generated tasks and compare it with state-of-the-art algorithms. Experiments show that PDAC makes significant progress in the comparison, in terms of cumulative rewards and sample efficiency.

Webshell, as the"culprit" behind numerous network attacks, is one of the research hotspots in the field of cybersecurity. However, the complexity, stealthiness, and confusing nature of webshells pose significant challenges to the corresponding detection schemes. With the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, researchers have started to apply different intelligent algorithms and neural network architectures to the task of webshell detection. However, the related research still lacks a systematic and standardized methodological process, which is confusing and redundant. Therefore, following the development timeline, we carefully summarize the progress of relevant research in this field, dividing it into three stages: Start Stage, Initial Development Stage, and In-depth Development Stage. We further elaborate on the main characteristics and core algorithms of each stage. In addition, we analyze the pain points and challenges that still exist in this field and predict the future development trend of this field from our point of view. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first review that details the research related to AI-based webshell detection. It is also hoped that this paper can provide detailed technical information for more researchers interested in AI-based webshell detection tasks. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Transformer, as one of the most advanced neural network models in Natural Language processing (NLP), exhibits diverse applications in the field of anomaly detection. To inspire research on Transformer-based anomaly detection, this review offers a fresh perspective on the concept of anomaly detection. We explore the current challenges of anomaly detection and provide detailed insights into the operating principles of Transformer and its variants in anomaly detection tasks. Additionally, we delineate various application scenarios for Transformer-based anomaly detection models and discuss the datasets and evaluation metrics employed. Furthermore, this review highlights the key challenges in Transformer-based anomaly detection research and conducts a comprehensive analysis of future research trends in this domain. The review includes an extensive compilation of over 100 core references related to Transformer-based anomaly detection. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first comprehensive review that focuses on the research related to Transformer in the context of anomaly detection. Unlike Emotion Cause Extraction (ECE) task which consists of pre-annotate emotions and passage, emotion-cause pair extraction (ECPE) aims at extracting potential emotions and corresponding causes in the document without the need for pre-annotations. Traditional ECPE solutions divide the extracting emotions and causes operation into two separate parts. However, separating the bidirectional dependence between emotion and cause may lose a lot of potentially useful information. In this paper, we propose a novel interactive recurrent attention network (IRAN). Our approach focuses on the bidirectional impact between emotions and causes, and extracts emotions and causes simultaneously. The information in the document can be fully exploited through multiple modeling and information extraction. Our emotion-specific transformation and distance fusion correlation can adaptively focus on the emotions and the distance, gracefully incorporate them into a distinguishable neural network attention framework. The experimental results show that our proposed model achieves better performance than other widely-used models on the ECPE corpus. © 2020 ACM.

Volume ignition is a method of igniting a fuel as a whole by simultaneously achieving ignition conditions throughout the fuel zone. The basic criterion for ignition is that the thermonuclear energy is greater than the energy leakage at the fuel boundary, resulting in self-sustaining heating and deep combustion. Deuterium-tritium fuels are wrapped in medium to high Z media to reduce radiative leakage and achieve lower-temperature holistic ignition and non-equilibrium combustion, ultimately allowing the fuel to achieve high combustion efficiency. Volume ignition is the use of energy balance relations under the local thermodynamic equilibrium approximation to establish the energy balance equation for thermonuclear systems, and the system ignition threshold is obtained by solving this equation. By understanding the physical process, we believe that the non-equilibrium process is universal to the volume ignition process. Changes in external factors (density, boundaries, albedo, etc.) at the moment of ignition can have a significant impact on the development direction of the system, and an ignition system with a large surface density can nevertheless withstand a large amount of reverse work and continue to burn. The design of the ignition target tries to avoid these factors through margin design, but conversely, the rational use of these laws can further improve the design margin of the capsule. With the aid of big data, the volume ignition method is easier to calculate and has a shorter iteration time. The traditional way is to propose a model, set the material, and then perform the calculation while using big data can set any model and material for calculation. In this paper, a simple comparison will be made to find out that the efficiency of the physical design of a volume ignition target will be effectively improved with the aid of big data. Controlled thermonuclear fusion has always been a dream pursued by mankind. However, the physical processes of controlled thermonuclear fusion are complex, requiring numerical simulations with high performance computing, and the amount of data generated by the physical processes on spatial, temporal and temperature scales is too large to be captured, managed, processed and collated in a reasonable time frame by mainstream software tools to achieve more aggressive fusion physical design. The data are too large to be captured, managed, processed, and collated into more aggressive targets for fusion physical design in a reasonable time by mainstream software tools. At the same time, the failure of fusion ignition can be caused by the distortion of various key physical quantities, and only by decomposing the process step by step and clarifying the changes of key physical quantities in the fusion physics process, can an effective mechanism be formed to prevent the distortion of key physical quantities from causing ignition failure in experimental physics. Big data in collaboration with artificial intelligence and high performance computing to drive the physical design of fusion is a novel avenue. By data acquisition with and pre-processing, this allows the creation of small sample libraries and deep learning. With supervised learning function convergence, incorporating solid/fluid computational methods, further network layering and cell expansion, the parameters of the physical model conforming to Lawson's criterion will become experimental physical parameters, and we find the new approach in Data capacity, Model combination approach, Type of material, Calculation speed, Optimisation of design iteration times, etc. are superior to the traditional approach. © 2022 IEEE.
