A distributed Relation Detection Approach in the Internet of Things

In the Internet of Things, it is important to detect the various relations among objects for mining useful knowledge. Existing works on relation detection are based on centralized processing, which is not suitable for the Internet of Things owing to the unavailability of a server, one-point failure, computation bottleneck, and moving of objects. In this paper, we propose a distributed approach to detect relations among objects. We first build a system model for this problem that supports generic forms of relations and both physical time and logical time. Based on this, we design the distributed Relation Detection Approach (DRDA), which utilizes a distributed spanning tree to detect relations using in-network processing. DRDA can coordinate the distributed tree-building process of objects and automatically change the depth of the routing tree to a proper value. Optimization among multiple relation detection tasks is also considered. Extensive simulations were performed and the results show that the proposed approach outperforms existing approaches in terms of the energy consumption. © 2017 Weiping Zhu et al.

In large-scale asynchronous distributed virtual environments(DVEs), one of the difficult problems is to deliver the concurrent events in a consistent order at each node. Generally, the previous consistency control approaches can be classified into two categories: causal order and time stamped order. However, causal order approaches can merely preserve the cause-effect relation of events and time stamped order approaches seem intrinsically complex to be used in serverless large-scale asynchronous DVEs. In this paper, we proposed a novel distributed algorithm to identify the concurrent events and preserve the consistent order delivery of them at different nodes. Simulation studies are also carried out to compare the performance of this algorithm with that of the previous ones. The results show that the new algorithm can effectively deliver the concurrent events in consistent order at each node and is more efficient than the previous algorithms in large-scale asynchronous DVEs. © 2010 IEEE.

Multi-agent reinforcement learning system is used to solve the problem that agents achieve specific goals in the interaction with the environment through learning policies. Almost all existing multi-agent reinforcement learning methods assume that the observation of the agents is accurate during the training process. It does not take into account that the observation may be wrong due to the complexity of the actual environment or the existence of dishonest agents, which will make the agent training difficult to succeed. In this paper, considering the limitations of the traditional multi-agent algorithm framework in noisy environments, we propose a multi-agent fault-tolerant reinforcement learning (MAFTRL) algorithm. Our main idea is to establish the agent's own error detection mechanism and design the information communication medium between agents. The error detection mechanism is based on the autoencoder, which calculates the credibility of each agent's observation and effectively reduces the environmental noise. The communication medium based on the attention mechanism can significantly improve the ability of agents to extract effective information. Experimental results show that our approach accurately detects the error observation of the agent, which has good performance and strong robustness in both the traditional reliable environment and the noisy environment. Moreover, MAFTRL significantly outperforms the traditional methods in the noisy environment.

The weapon-target assignment (WTA) problem is a fundamental problem arising in defense-related applications of operations research. The WTA problem can be formulated as a nonlinear integer programming problem and is known to be NP-complete. We present firstly a technique founded on the use weapon cell, which enables one-to-many mapping about weapon-target to become one-to-one mapping. Next, we introduce a framework of solving the WTA problem. Based on this framework, an approximation algorithm that is grounded on the rules about weapon cells and targets is proposed. Finally, the simulative results show that the proposed algorithm indeed is very efficient.

Effective hierarchical routing algorithm for large-scale wireless mobile networks

The growing interest in wireless mobile network techniques has resulted in many routing protocol proposals. The unpredictable motion and the unreliable behavior of mobile nodes is one of the key issues in wireless mobile network. Virtual mobile node (VMN) consists of robust virtual nodes that are both predictable and reliable. Based on VMN, in this paper, we present a hierarchical routing algorithm, i.e., EHRA-WAVE, for large-scale wireless mobile networks. By using mobile WAVE technology, a routing path can be found rapidly between VMNs without accurate topology information. We introduce the routing algorithm and the implementation issues of the proposed EHRA-WAVE routing algorithm. Finally, we evaluate the performance of EHRA-WAVE through experiments, and compare the performance on VMN failure and message delivery ratio using hierarchical and non-hierarchical routing methods. However, due to the large amounts WAVE flooding, EHRA-WAVE results in too large load which would impede the application of the EHRA-WAVE algorithm. Therefore, the further routing protocol focuses on minimizing the number of WAVE using hierarchical structures in large-scale wireless mobile networks. © 2014 Academy Publisher.

In this paper, an improved algorithm is proposed for the reconstruction of singularity connectivity from the available pairwise connections during preprocessing phase. To evaluate the performance of our algorithm, an in-house CFD code, in which high-order finite-difference method for spatial discretization, running on the Tianhe-1A supercomputer is employed. Test cases with a varied amount of mesh points are chosen, and the test results indicate that the improved singular connection reconstruction algorithm can achieve a 2000× speedup at least compared with the naive search method adopt in the former version of our code. Moreover, the parallel efficiency can be benefited from the strategy of local communication based on the new algorithm. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Network traffic classification is crucial for network security and network management and is one of the most important network tasks. Current state-of-the-art traffic classifiers are based on deep learning models to automatically extract features from packet streams. Unfortunately, current approaches fail to effectively combine the structural information of traffic packets with the content features of the packets, resulting in limited classification accuracy. In this paper, we propose a graph neural network model for network traffic classification, which can well perceive the interaction feature of packets in traffic. Firstly, we design a graph structure for packets’ flows to hold the interaction information between packets, which embeds both packet contents and sequence relationships into a unified graph. Secondly, we propose a graph neural network framework for graph classification to automatically learn the structural features of the packets’ flows together with the packets’ features. Extensive evaluation results on real-world traffic data show that the proposed model improves the prediction accuracy of improves the prediction accuracy by 2% to 37% for malicious traffic classification.

Github facilitates the pull-request mechanism as an outstanding social coding paradigm by integrating with social media. The review process of pull-requests is a typical crowd sourcing job which needs to solicit opinions of the community. Recommending appropriate reviewers can reduce the time between the submission of a pull-request and the actual review of it. In this paper, we firstly extend the traditional Machine Learning (ML) based approach of bug triaging to reviewer recommendation. Furthermore, we analyze social relations between contributors and reviewers, and propose a novel approach to recommend highly relevant reviewers by mining comment networks (CN) of given projects. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness of these two approaches with quantitative evaluations. The results show that CN-based approach achieves a significant improvement over the ML-based approach, and on average it reaches a precision of 78% and 67% for top-1 and top-2 recommendation respectively, and a recall of 77% for top-10 recommendation.

Strongly promoted by the leading industrial companies, cloud computing becomes increasingly popular in re-cent years. The growth rate of cloud computing surpasses even the most optimistic predictions. A cloud application is a large-scale distributed system that consist a lot of distributed cloud nodes. How to make optimal deployment of cloud applications is a challenging research problem. When deploying a cloud application to the cloud environment, cloud node ranking is one of the most important approaches for selecting optimal cloud nodes for the cloud application. Traditional ranking methods usually rank the cloud nodes based on their QoS values, without considering the communication performance between cloud nodes. However, such kind of node relationship is very important for the communication-intensive cloud applications (e.g., Message Passing Interface (MPI) programs), which have a lot of communications between the selected cloud nodes. In this paper, we propose a novel clustering-based method for selecting optimal cloud nodes for deploying communication-intensive applications to the cloud environment. Our method not only takes into account the cloud node qualities, but also the communication performance between different nodes. We deploy several well-known MPI programs on a real-world cloud and compare our method with other methods. The experimental results show the effectiveness of our cluster-based method.

This paper presents the design and implementation of a highly efficient Double-precision General Matrix Multiplication (DGEMM) based on Open BLAS for 64-bit ARMv8 eight-core processors. We adopt a theory-guided approach by first developing a performance model for this architecture and then using it to guide our exploration. The key enabler for a highly efficient DGEMM is a highly-optimized inner kernel GEBP developed in assembly language. We have obtained GEBP by (1) maximizing its compute-to-memory access ratios across all levels of the memory hierarchy in the ARMv8 architecture with its performance-critical block sizes being determined analytically, and (2) optimizing its computations through exploiting loop unrolling, instruction scheduling and software-implemented register rotation and taking advantage of A64 instructions to support efficient FMA operations, data transfers and prefetching. We have compared our DGEMM implemented in Open BLAS with another implemented in ATLAS (also in terms of a highly-optimized GEBP in assembly). Our implementation outperforms the one in ALTAS by improving the peak performance (efficiency) of DGEMM from 3.88 Gflops (80.9%) to 4.19 Gflops (87.2%) on one core and from 30.4 Gflops (79.2%) to 32.7 Gflops (85.3%) on eight cores. These results translate into substantial performance (efficiency) improvements by 7.79% on one core and 7.70% on eight cores. In addition, the efficiency of our implementation on one core is very close to the theoretical upper bound 91.5% obtained from micro-benchmarking. Our parallel implementation achieves good performance and scalability under varying thread counts across a range of matrix sizes evaluated.
