Noise contamination is inevitable in biomedical recordings. In some cases biomedical recordings are highly contaminated with artifacts which make the effective recovering process hard to achieve. Many different methods have been proposed for artifact removal from biomedical signals but introducing an effective method which can present valuable data for medical analysis, is still an ongoing process. In this paper a new method for interictal EEG denoising is presented. Single-channel ICA denoising method based on EMD decomposition is used to improve the multi-channel ICA denoising results. This method is tested on simulated epileptic recordings which are contaminated with real muscle artifact and EEG background activity.

This paper concerns the compensation of track deviations in high-resolution automobile synthetic aperture radar (SAR). We establish the geometry in which the automobile SAR raw data is acquired. Based on the derived model, the research investigates the impact of track deviations on the final focused image quality and we propose motion compensation (MOCO) strategy which can be applied to obtain a well-focused SAR image. This paper presents how to obtain the accurate positions of the antenna phase center (APC) using the velocity and attitude angles measured by inertial navigation system (INS)/global positioning system (GPS), and proposes a new method to compensate the forward velocity errors which are decomposed into two components and compensated individually, that is, high-order and low order phase compensation. Finally, the results from real data are presented to validate the whole analysis and the proposed procedure.

The joint maximum likelihood sequence estimation (JMLSE) is a useful algorithm for the single-antenna co-channel interference cancellation. But the conventional JMLSE algorithm is only suitable for continuous signal. If burst signals are processed as continuous signals, the conventional JMLSE will suffer an error floor. To overcome this problem, a modified JMLSE algorithm was proposed for burst digital signal. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can eliminate the defect of error floor, and the performance is almost the same as continuous signalprocessing.

In this paper, an improved phase gradient autofocus (PGA) Algorithm motion compensation (MOCO) approaches is proposed for the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery. The approach is implemented in two-steps. The first step determines the length of segments depending on number of good quality scatterers and motion errors obtained from navigation data. In the second step, a novel minimum-entropy phase correction based on the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) coefficients is proposed. In this approach, transform phase error estimates by PGA to DCT-coefficient. The entropy of a focused image is utilized as the optimization function of the DCT coefficients to improve the final images quality. Finally, real-data experiments show that the proposed approach is appropriate for highly precise imaging of UAV SAR.

The Electrocardiogram (ECG) is widely used for diagnosis of heart diseases. Therefore, the quality of information extracted from the ECG has a vital role. In real recordings, ECG is corrupted by artifacts such as prolonged repolarization, respiration, changes of electrode position, muscle contraction, and power line interface. In this paper, a denoising technique for ECG signals based on Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) is proposed. We use Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (EEMD) to overcome the limitations of EMD. Moreover, to overcome the limitations of thresholding methods we use the combination of mutual information and two EMD based interval thresholding approaches. Our new method is evaluated on ECG signals available in MIT-BIH database. This method is compared with two EEMD based interval thresholding methods. The results show that our proposed method has a better signal to Noise Ratio improvement (SNRimp) and a lower Mean Square Error (MSE) than the other two methods.

Distributed radar sites needs a group of nearly-orthogonal waveforms and polyphase coded waveforms (PCWs) can approach the orthogonality in the code dimension. However, PCWs are sensitive to Doppler mismatch in range compression, which can induce signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) loss and sidelobe level increase. In this paper, we first study how to design a seed PCW with a high Doppler tolerance and then propose a waveform construction method that can simultaneously construct a group of nearly-orthogonal PCWs based only on the seed PCW. It is also proved that all the constructed PCWs share the same high Doppler tolerance with the seed PCW. The effectiveness of this method is verified by numerical results.

In traditional radar systems, target detection and target tracking are conducted separately, but if they are considered as a whole, higher target detection and tracking performance may be obtained. In this paper, we study how to perform target detection during target tracking. At the target tracking stage, we use the knowledge provided by the target tracking algorithm to facilitate target detection, and propose a criterion that a target track can terminate at a given probability when the target reflects no signal back suddenly. Simulation results indicate that this method can significantly improve the detection probability and expand the tracking distance at a low level of track false alarm rate.
