Whispered speech can be effectively used for quiet and private communications over mobile phones and is also the communication means for ENT patients under a regime of voice rest. However,little progress has been made on the denoising of whispered speech in noisy environment because of its special acoustic *** this paper, we propose a whisper denoising algorithm in joint time-frequency domain based on real-valued discrete Gabor transform(RDGT). Noisy whisper is first transformed into the joint time-frequency domain by fast real-valued discrete Gabor transform. The MMSE based log-amplitude estimator is derived under speech presence uncertainty hypothesis. Clean whisper spectral is then estimated by inverse transform of RDGT. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is very effective in avoiding the musical residual noise and retaining weak speech components.

In this paper, we propose a novel method named Contracting Community Approach (CCA) to get the maximum flow of flow network. Firstly, we contract communities in the original network. Then, we apply classic algorithms on the contracted network to approximately solve the maximum flow problem. Experimental results show that the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. For sparse networks, the size of network is reduced to 58.38% averagely and the correctness of maximum flow is over 95%. For middle dense networks, the size of network is reduced to 65.77% averagely. For dense networks, the size of network is reduced to 64.84% averagely. And the correctness of maximum flow even reach 100% both in many middle dense and dense cases in our experiments.

In this paper, we propose a system to recognize handwritten digit strings, which constitutes a difficult task because of overlapping and/or joining of adjacent digits. To resolve this problem, we use a segmentation-recognition of handwritten connected digits based on the oriented sliding window. The proposed approach allows separating adjacent digits according the connection configuration by finding at the same time the interconnection points between adjacent digits and the cutting path. The segmentation-recognition using the global decision module allows the rejection or acceptance of the processed image. Experimental results conducted on the handwritten digit database NIST SD19 show the effective use of the sliding window for segmentation-recognition.

Various compression algorithms for multi-channel electroencephalograms (EEG) are proposed and compared. The multi-channel EEG is represented as a three-way tensor (or 3D volume) to exploit both spatial and temporal correlations efficiently. A general two-stage coding framework is developed for multi-channel EEG compression. In the first stage, we consider (i) wavelet-based volumetric coding; (ii) energy-based lossless compression of wavelet subbands; (iii) tensor decomposition based coding. In the second stage, the residual is quantized and coded. Through such two-stage approach, one can control the maximum error (worst-case distortion). Numerical results for a standard EEG data set show that tensor-based coding achieves lower worst-case error and comparable average error than the wavelet- and energy-based schemes.

The error induced by solar radiation heating is becoming an important fact in weather forecast and climate change research. Unfortunately, limited research has been focused on the factors such as surface coating reflectivity and solar incident angle. This paper presents a new method of computational fluid dynamics to build a steady-state thermal transfer model of sounding humidity sensors. External complex boundary conditions are then applied. Fluid-solid coupling thermal transfer analysis of sounding humidity sensors is performed. A variety of parameters, including air pressures, surface coating reflectivities, solar incident angles, and altitudes from sea level to 32 km, have been studied in this work. The modeling results reveal that solar radiation temperature errors exhibit numerical relationships with surface coating reflectivity of sensing components as well as solar incident angle. This method may find applications in solar radiation error correction of sounding humidity sensors, and have a potential to improve measuring accuracy of the sensors.

This paper formally introduces the method named as RAE (ratio of adjacent eigenvalues) for model order selection, and proposes a new approach combining the recently developed SORTE (Second ORder sTatistic of the Eigenvalues) and RAE in the context for determining the number of sources in a linear transformation model. The underlying rationale for the combination discovered through sufficient simulations is that SORTE overestimated the true order in the model and RAE underestimated the true order when the signal to noise ratio (SNR) was low. Simulations further showed that after the new method, called RAESORTE, was optimized, the true number of sources was almost correctly estimated even when the SNR was -10 dB, which is extremely difficult for any other model order selection methods;moreover, RAE took much less time than SORTE known as computational efficiency. Hence, RAE and RAESORTE appear promising for the real-time and real world signalprocessing.

This paper has studied spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) phenomenon in two types of two-channel asymmetric simple exclusion processes (ASEPs). One common feature of the two systems is that interactions for each species of particle happen at only one site, and the system reduces to two independent ASEPs when interaction vanishes. It is shown that with the weakening of interaction, the SSB is suppressed. More interestingly, the SSB disappears before the interaction is eliminated. Our work thus indicates that local interaction has to be strong enough to produce SSB. The mean-field analysis has been carried out, and the results are consistent with the simulation ones.
