Effective ground stationary operational target detection is the precondition of subsequent target identification for helicopter-borne fire-controlled radar. More abundant target information could be obtained when adopting wide-band radar than traditional narrow-band one. While there exit such problem of high false alarm and poor adaptability when applying traditional detection methods. Thus, a novel ground stationary target detection method for airborne wide-band radar based on statistical characteristic is presented in this paper. By considering statistical distribution property in both range and azimuth directions, this method could distinguish the target from strong ground clutter background adaptively and effectively. Experiment results show that our algorithm not only can improve detection performance significantly but also could enhance processing efficiency.

High-performance target detection algorithms have been proposed for ship detection in Synthetic Aperture radar (SAR) images in recent years. However, most of them are applied in the situation of single-polarization SAR images and rarely consider the important polarization information in SAR images. In this paper, a polarization-guided strategy is presented to improve the detection performance in single polarization SAR images by predicting polarization type. In which, an extra polarization-guided head is employed following the backbone network to guide the feature maps from the backbone to explore polarization information. Then, the feature map with the polarization information is fused with those from backbone network to enhance feature extraction in feature pyramid networks (FPN), and yields better detection performance. Experiments conducted demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, which can be easily merged with different detectors.

Offset spatial modulation (OSM) is a novel modulation scheme with simplified radio-frequency-switching structure. In this paper, the concept of OSM is combined with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission to take advantage of the benefits of these two techniques. We shed light on the effects of carrier frequency offset (CFO) on the OSM-OFDM systems over multipath Rayleigh fading channel, where the inter-carrier interference (ICI) induced by CFO degrades the system performance. We further derive the theoretical bit-error rate (BER) upper bound of OSM-OFDM impaired by CFO. Simulation results show that the theoretical BER is in good agreement with its simulated counterpart, which demonstrates the accuracy of the theoretical analysis. © 2020 IEEE.

Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation has always been an important and widely studied topic. In practical scenarios, achieving higher resolution and timely response speed is always a priority. Incorporating deep learning (DL) techniques into DOA estimation confers a multitude of advantages, such as efficient computation time. Nonetheless, similar to traditional algorithms, they encounter challenges with grid resolution limitations. This paper introduces a novel deep learning framework for accurately estimating DOA of off-grid signals through regression task, effectively addressing grid mismatch issues. Experimental results confirm the enhanced efficacy of the proposed method under various scenarios, surpassing traditional and other DL methods.

A radar waveform with spectral notches is designed to share spectrum for the coexistence of radar and communications. To suppress high range sidelobes caused by the discontinuous spectrum, a novel waveform design for cooperative radar-communication system is presented. In this method, the distribution of working band for communications is first used as the degree of freedom (DOF), and thus the waveform optimization is equivalent to search the optimal spectrum allocation scheme. For this reason, we formulate an objective function of minimizing peak sidelobe level (PSL) with respect to the power spectrum density (PSD) of radar waveform under a prescribed range resolution constraint. To address this problem, a global optimization procedure, namely firefly algorithm (FA) is utilized to obtain the desired PSD configuration. Moreover, a PSD-to-waveform implementation based on PSD fitting is employed to convert the PSD to the transmit waveform. Simulation results show that the proposed method can prevent the cooperative radar-communication system from mutual interference while ensuring the radar signal with low autocorrelation sidelobes and a fine range resolution. © 2020 Institution of Engineering and technology. Code-Switching (CS) Text-To-Speech (TTS) models have gained attention due to the increasing prevalence of multilingual communication. However, existing models struggle to meet the growing demand for personalized CS TTS, particularly in Zero-Shot (ZS) scenarios where the model should generate speech for an unseen speaker from reference speech. In this paper, we propose ZCS-CDiff, a zero-shot code-switching TTS system with the Conformer-based diffusion model. We disentangle speech features and use the diffusion model to precisely model these disentangled attributes, resulting in high-quality ZS CS speech. Additionally, we introduce a Conformer-based WaveNet as the denoising network within the diffusion model to further improve the accuracy of modeling different attributes. We also designed a speaker-assist module to help the model better handle speaker information extracted from the reference speech, resulting in CS speech with higher speaker similarity. Experimental results and ablation studies demonstrate that the ZS CS speech generated by ZCS-CDiff has good speech naturalness, intelligibility, and speaker similarity while confirming the effectiveness of our design choices. In this paper, robust multiple model-based LSDP (Loop-Shaping Design Procedure) controller is proposed for a SISO system where each linear submodel is represented in the form of a SISO ARX (Auto Regressive with exogenous input) Laguerre model. The proposed controller guarantees robustness in term of stability and reference tracking of the SISO system in presence of parametric uncertainties. Simulation example on the SISO CSTR (Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor) Benchmark is given to show the efficiency and the robustness of the proposed controller in handling the parametric uncertainties of the process. © 2021 IEEE.

Some sensors can only measure the angle of arrival of the signal, but the real position of the signal source is usually interesting. To obtain an accurate target position estimate, this paper studies the target tracking problem based on angle-only measurements in 3-Dimensional (3D) space. Firstly, the target position estimate is obtained by using weighted least-squares (WLS) algorithm, and the covariance matrix of the position estimate is calculated. Although this algorithm has low computational complexity, there is a bias problem due to the transformation of angle measurement equation from nonlinear to linear. To counter the bias, a bias compensation step is considered by estimating the correlation between the measurement matrix and noise vector. The classical Kalman filter (KF) is applied to the target position estimates before and after compensation. In numerical results, the performance advantages of the proposed bias compensation KF over the uncompensated algorithm and extended Kalman filter are verified. In addition, the impacts of angle measurement accuracy and sensor self-positioning accuracy are analyzed, indicating that the bias compensation Kalman filter can achieve high positioning performance with low computational cost.

We develop a dimension reduction algorithm that against coherent signals with application to direction of arrival (DOA) estimation in low-angle tracking. The dimension reduction is done as a linear transformation which is commonly referred to as beamspace (BS). In this paper, the BS covariance matrix is reconstituted from several beams which can be applied to synthetic vector maximum likelihood (SVML) estimator. The proposed method is computationally less expensive to obtain similar DOA estimation performance as compared to the existing element space (ES) technique. Simulation results and field data sets validate the robustness of the developed algorithm, and they show its effectiveness and superiority to the ES SVML algorithm.

Sequential Least Squares Programming for Linear Antenna Array Synthesis: A Study of Local and Global Optima

Antenna array syntheses are usually nonlinear optimization problems with many local optima and constraints. A mathematical optimizer is limited to solving the synthesis problems in case that it might trap in a very poor local optimum. To address how poor the local optima with the synthesis problems, an experimental study is done on the local and the global optima of array syntheses by using the sequential least squares programming (SLSQP), which is a fast mathematical optimizer to search a local optimum. The experimental study show that the patterns of local optima are very close to the global optimal pattern in the case of equally spaced array, while in the case of unequally spaced array, the local and global optimal patterns are likely much different. The SLSQP algorithm is consequently recommended to quickly solve the synthesis problem in the case of equally spaced array. For the case of unequally spaced array, a DE-SLSQP hybrid algorithm is proposed to balance the global search and the quick convergence. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
