Wheat cadmium(Cd)contamination is one of the environmental and agricultural concerns ***,the effects of applications of foliar selenium(Se)and soil amendments(lime,mixture of biofuel ash and sodium sulfide(DSO),and mixture of iron mine tailing and alkali lignin(MX))on soil Cd fractions and wheat Cd accumulation were studied using laboratory incubation,greenhouse pot,and field plot *** the laboratory incubation experiment,lime and MX applications significantly increased soil pH,DSO application significantly decreased soil p H,while all the three amendments significantly reduced soil bioavailable Cd fractions by 16%–21%compared to the control without any *** Se application significantly increased the growth and yield of the high-Cd-accumulating cultivar(Puxing5).In the greenhouse experiment,lime and MX applications considerably decreased grain Cd concentration by 55%and 47%,respectively,for Puxing5 and by 24%and 26%,respectively,for the low-Cd-accumulating cultivar(Zhoumai30).In the field experiment,grain Cd concentration was significantly reduced by 68%and 72%by lime and MX applications,respectively,for *** of DSO also significantly reduced grain Cd concentration by 58%for Puxing5 and 25%for Zhoumai30 in the greenhouse experiment,but increased grain Cd concentration by 22%for Puxing5 in the field *** results implicate that laboratory incubation and greenhouse experiment results are necessary to be verified in field,and foliar Se application is recommended when considering both financial costs and production safety.

Background:Molecular docking-based virtual screening(VS)aims to choose ligands with potential pharmacological activities from millions or even billions of *** process could significantly cut down the number of compounds that need to be experimentally ***,during the docking calculation,many molecules have low affinity for a particular protein target,which waste a lot of computational ***:We implemented a fast and practical molecular screening approach called DL-DockVS(deep learning dock virtual screening)by using deep learning models(regression and classification models)to learn the outcomes of pipelined docking programs ***:In this study,we showed that this approach could successfully weed out compounds with poor docking scores while keeping compounds with potentially high docking scores against 10 DUD-E protein targets.A self-built dataset of about 1.9 million molecules was used to further verify DL-DockVS,yielding good results in terms of recall rate,active compounds enrichment factor and runtime ***:We comprehensively evaluate the practicality and effectiveness of DL-DockVS against 10 protein *** to the improvements of runtime and maintained success rate,it would be a useful and promising approach to screen ultra-large compound libraries in the age of big *** is also very convenient for researchers to make a well-trained model of one specific target for predicting other chemical libraries and high docking-score molecules without docking computation again.

Hybrid-driven technology,which can improve the sailing performance of underwater gliders(UGs),has been successfully used in ocean ***,a hybrid-driven UG(HUG)with an added tail propeller is still unable to achieve backward and turning motion with a body length radius,and the hydrodynamic pitch moment acting on the HUG that is mainly caused by the fixed-wing makes it difficult to achieve high-precision attitude control during fixed-depth *** solve this problem,a two-degree-of-freedom bioinspired controllable wing mechanism(CWM)is proposed to improve the maneuverability and cruising ability of *** CWM can realize five motion modes:modifying the dihedral angle or anhedral angle,changing the frontal area of the wing,switching the wing from horizontal to be a vertical rudder,flapping the wing as propulsion,and rotating the wing as a vector ***,the design process of the CWM is provided,and hydrodynamic forces in each motion mode of three CWMs with different trailing edge sweepback angles(TESA)and attitude angles are analyzed through computational fluid dynamics *** relationship between hydrodynamics and the attitude angles or TESA of the CWM is ***,experiments are conducted to measure the hydrodynamics of the CWM when it is in a flapping wing mode and rotating the wing as a vector propeller,*** hydrodynamic forces obtained from the simulation are consistent with data measured by a force sensor,proving the credibility of the simulated ***,by applying the results of the hydrodynamic force in this study,the flapping trajectory of the wingtip is planned using the cubic spline interpolation ***,two underwater demo vehicles with a pair of CWMs are developed,and experiments are conducted in a water tank,further validating and demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed CWM.

Effect of reduced ambient pressure on weld formability, microstructure and corrosion behaviors in laser beam welding of zirconium alloy

Welding zirconium alloys is a critical challenge in the nuclear industry owing to their high sensitivity to hydrogen and oxygen at high temperatures. This study explored the feasibility of vacuum laser welding as an alternative to conventional electron beam welding. The effects of reduced ambient pressure on weld formability, microstructure, and corrosion behavior were investigated. The results indicated a significant increase in the weld penetration depth and aspect ratio as the ambient pressure decreased from 101 kPa to 0.1 kPa. Low-vacuum conditions produced sound welds with improved surface quality and high aspect ratios. The molten pool and keyhole behaviors at different ambient pressures were experimentally and theoretically studied. The results revealed that a reduced ambient pressure transformed the welding process from thermal conductivity welding to deep keyhole welding. A larger molten pool and stable keyhole were observed in low vacuum, whereas atmospheric conditions resulted in a smaller molten pool obscured by bright plasma plumes. Microstructural analysis of welds under atmospheric and low-vacuum conditions revealed the growth of columnar crystals from both sides toward the center. Moreover, larger equiaxed crystals were observed in vacuum-welded joints owing to prolonged exposure to high temperatures, resulting from the increased heat input under low-vacuum conditions. A high-temperature, high-pressure corrosion test demonstrated that oxide film thickness gradually decreased with decreasing environmental pressure. The weld produced at 0.1 kPa exhibited excellent corrosion resistance, forming a black oxide film with good adhesion. This oxide film enhances the corrosion resistance of the weld, making it suitable for nuclear applications.

The small GTPase RABA2a recruits SNARE proteins to regulate the secretory pathway in parallel with the exocyst complex in Arabidopsis

Communication-Efficient Federated Learning by Quantized Variance Reduction for Heterogeneous Wireless Edge Networks

Federated learning (FL) has been recognized as a viable solution for local-privacy-aware collaborative model training in wireless edge networks, but its practical deployment is hindered by the high communication overhead caused by frequent and costly server-device synchronization. Notably, most existing communication-efficient FL algorithms fail to reduce the significant inter-device variance resulting from the prevalent issue of device heterogeneity. This variance severely decelerates algorithm convergence, increasing communication overhead and making it more challenging to achieve a well-performed model. In this paper, we propose a novel communication-efficient FL algorithm, named FedQVR, which relies on a sophisticated variance-reduced scheme to achieve heterogeneity-robustness in the presence of quantized transmission and heterogeneous local updates among active edge devices. Comprehensive theoretical analysis justifies that FedQVR is inherently resilient to device heterogeneity and has a comparable convergence rate even with a small number of quantization bits, yielding significant communication savings. Besides, considering non-ideal wireless channels, we propose FedQVR-E which enhances the convergence of FedQVR by performing joint allocation of bandwidth and quantization bits across devices under constrained transmission delays. Extensive experimental results are also presented to demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed algorithms over their counterparts in terms of both communication efficiency and application performance. © 2025 IEEE.

Chiral organic-inorganic hybrid metal halides(OIHMHs)have attracted broader scientific community recently in spin lightemitting diodes,and circularly polarized light-emitting ***,the emission peaks of the reported chiral OIHMHs mainly locate in the visible region,and chiral OIHMH with ultraviolet(UV)circularly polarized luminescence(CPL)has been rarely *** fill this gap,cerium,a unique rare-earth(RE)element with tunable luminescence from UV to the visible region owing to the 4 f-related electronic transition,was introduced to construct the first RE-based chiral OIHMHs,R/*** chirality is successfully transferred from the chiral organic cations to the inorganic cerium chloride framework in R/S-MCC,as confirmed by the single crystal structures,circular dichroism,and *** emission spectra of R/S-MCC are in the UV region,originating from the characteristic d-f transition of Ce^(3+),which making the Ce-based metal halides are ideal candidates towards CPL light sources in the UV ***,R-and S-MCC are the first RE-based OIHMHs,also the first chiral metalhalides with UV *** work opens a new avenue for the development of the chiral OIHMH family towards RE-based chiral *** RE-based chiral metal halides couple the unique and superior optical,electrical,magnetic,and spintronic properties of RE elements with chirality could accelerate the development of chiral optoelectronics and spintronics toward real applications.
