In the nuclear safety level I&C (Instrument and Control) area, the code generator plays an important role in developing the application software. The main function of the code generator is to translate the Lustre program corresponding to the graphical control algorithm into C code. Therefore, the reliability and quality of the code generator will directly affect the safe and reliable operation of nuclear power plants. In order to ensure the correctness of Lustre code, a static semantic analyzer is designed and developed to find the errors in source Lustre code. Its function is to check the correctness of the input source Lustre code, including identifier-checking declarations, identifier-checking programs, type-checking expressions and equations, clock-checking expressions and equations. According to the characteristics of Lustre language, the static semantic analyzer is designed and developed, and its function and correctness are verified by a large number of test cases. Improving the ductility of laser directed energy deposited borated stainless steel by increasing laser power

Borated stainless steels (BSSs) are extensively applied in the nuclear energy industry due to boron's excellent thermal neutron absorption capacity, but large and brittle borides formed during casting result in a low ductility. Here, a BSS was produced by laser directed energy deposition, and an investigation was conducted to analyze the impact of laser power on both the microstructure and mechanical properties of the deposited material. Fibrous borides with relatively low volume fraction in the overlapping zone resulted in higher ductility, while lamellar borides with relatively large volume fraction in the non-overlapping zone led to higher strength. As the laser power increased from 180 W to 330 W, the size of fibrous and lamellar eutectic borides and austenite increased significantly, the width of the soft overlapping zone increased by 2.27 times, and the elongation increased by 2.03 times, although yield strength and ultimate tensile strength decreased by 46.3 % and 31.7 %, respectively. As a result, these findings confirmed the feasibility of significantly improving the ductility of the as-deposited BSS by increasing the laser power. The work here provides a way to tailoring the mechanical properties of BSS produced by laser additive manufacturing. © 2025 The Society of Manufacturing Engineers

Underground in-situ pyrolysis of oil-rich coal can extract oil and gas resources in coal, which is an important measure for clean and low-carbon utilization of coal resources. The efficiency and energy consumption of underground in-situ pyrolysis of oil-rich coal depend on the heating equipment. The sodium heat pipe with large length-diameter ratio can complete the efficient long-distance heat transfer at high temperature, and has broad application prospects in the field of underground in-situ pyrolysis of oil-rich coal. Compared with the conventional high temperature heat pipe, the evaporation section of the sodium heat pipe with large length-diameter ratio is more likely to burn out during cold start-up, which leads to the failure of cold start-up. Therefore, for the sodium heat pipe with an aspect ratio of 115 (outer diameter D = 20 mm, axial length L = 2300 mm), the start-up characteristics of sodium heat pipes with three filling rates (5 %, 10 %, 15 %) under different heating powers were investigated. The results show that with the increase of the filling rate, the longer the start-up time of the sodium heat pipe with large length-diameter ratio, the more likely it is to produce temperature oscillation. Increasing the heating power can reduce the start-up time gap of the three liquid-filled sodium heat pipes, weaken the temperature oscillation phenomenon, and improve the temperature uniformity and steady-state operating temperature of the sodium heat pipe with large length-diameter ratio. In addition, the decrease of the filling rate of sodium with large length-diameter ratio and the increase of heating power can reduce the equivalent thermal resistance of sodium heat pipe with large length-diameter ratio, and improve the start-up characteristics and heat transfer effect of sodium heat pipe with large length-diameter ratio. The formation and growth of voids have significant influence on the dimensional changes of nuclear materials subjected to irradiation. In this paper, we developed a phase-field model to investigate the evolution of voids in binary alloys under irradiation, which includes the process of irradiation-induced defect formation and annihilation. The relationship of alloy composition and defect formation energy was determined. The nucleation and growth of voids for various alloy compositions were simulated to investigate the effect of solute composition on the void growth kinetics. Our simulation results indicate that, the composition of matrix phase and its influence on the formation energy of vacancy are essential for the growth kinetics and void distribution during irradiation. As an example, the void nucleation and growth in U-Zr alloys are also studied and consistence between the present results and experimental observations were obtained. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2024.

The existing fault diagnosis methods based on deep neural networks mostly rely on process data for fault classification and diagnosis, which makes it difficult to distinguish minor faults with similar data features. Therefore, this paper proposes a deep learning-based fault diagnosis model that combines statistical indicators and neural networks. By analyzing and calculating the relevant information entropy to screen the statistical signal features of time domain and frequency domain, we can extract more hidden information from the raw data, and use the convolutional autoencoder to compress the statistical indicators for feature extraction, and use CNN network to extract features from raw data. Finally, the two sets of features are fused and input into the LSTM network to obtain temporal information for fault diagnosis. Tests conducted on the Tennessee Eastman (TE) process show that the proposed model outperforms typical classifiers and improves the diagnostic accuracy of minor faults. © 2023 Technical Committee on Control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

Dear Editor,Machine learning(ML) approaches have been widely employed to enable real-time ML-based stability assessment(MLSA) of largescale automated electricity grids. However, the vulnerability of MLSA to malicious cyber-attacks may lead to wrong decisions in operating the physical grid if its resilience properties are not well understood before deployment. Unlike adversarial ML in prior domains such as image processing, specific constraints of power systems that the attacker must obey in constructing adversarial samples require new research on MLSA vulnerability analysis for power systems.

Reconstruction of particle distribution for tomographic particle image velocimetry based on unsupervised learning method

The development of deep learning has inspired some new methods to solve the 3D reconstruction problem for Tomographic Particle Image Velocimetry (Tomo-PIV). However, the supervised learning method requires a large number of data with ground truth as training information, which is very difficult to gather from experiments. Although synthetic datasets can be used as alternatives, they are still not exactly the same with the real-world experimental data. In this paper, an Unsupervised Reconstruction Technique based on U-net (UnRTU) is proposed to reconstruct volume particle distribution explicitly. Instead of using ground truth data, a projection function is used as an unsupervised loss function for network training to reconstruct particle distribution. The UnRTU was compared with some traditional algebraic reconstruction algorithms and supervised learning method using synthetic data under different particle density and noise level. The results indicate that UnRTU outperforms these traditional approaches in both reconstruction quality and noise robustness, and is comparable to the supervised learning methods AI-PR. For experimental tests, particles dispersed in cured epoxy resin are moved by an electric rail with a certain speed to obtain the ground truth data of particle velocity. Compared with other algorithms, the reconstructed particle distribution by UnRTU has the best reconstruction fidelity. And the accuracy of the 3D velocity field estimated by UnRTU is 12.9% higher than that from the traditional MLOS-MART algorithm. It demonstrates significant potential and advantages for UnRTU in 3D reconstruction of particle distribution. Finally, UnRTU was successfully applied to the high-speed planar cascade airflow field, demonstrating its applicability for measuring complex fluid flow fields at higher particle density.

Field-programmable gate array (FPGA) is now considered by an increasing number of designers in various fields of application, such as space and aircraft embedded control systems, image and signal processing. It is a popular way to design different serial communication protocols including serial and network communications implemented by FPGA, which ensure data transfer accuracy and timing. However, single event effects (SEE) can pose a serious threat to the reliability of FPGA in the radiation environments. In order to evaluate the reliability and failure modes of different communication interfaces in radiation environments, three communication protocols were tested by alpha radiation source, including universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter (UART), ethernet, and universal serial bus (USB). The experiments have presented the failure modes and SEE cross sections to different communication ways. © 2023 SPIE.
