A simplified hardware-friendly contour prediction algorithm in 3D-HEVC and parallelization design

The dimensional accuracy inspection is an important part of the sand print forming process, which is currently dominated by visual inspection or manual measurement with low efficiency and poor stability. In order to improve the visual inspection accuracy of sand mold forming in the process of sand mold 3D printing, this thesis proposes an improved Markov random field sand image segmentation algorithm. Be directed against the problems such as tooth-shaped edges after sand image segmentation, this thesis combines ICM theory with Markov random field algorithm, adds the potential function against tooth-shaped edges, fuses the energy fields of three likelihood functions to calculate the label field probability, and segments the sand-shaped image according to the energy minimum criterion. The experimental results show that the algorithm in this thesis can reduce the probability of tooth-shaped edge features, and the edge IOU is improved by 17.05 percent when compared with the threshold segmentation. In addition, the algorithm in this thesis is able to realize the accurate segmentation of sand image and improve the visual inspection accuracy, which provides a basis for online detection of sand mold accuracy. © 2022 IEEE.

Effect of Hydrogen, Helium and Dose Rate on the Evolution of Dislocation Loop in Pure Iron During In-Situ Irradiation

Simulating neutron irradiation with ion irradiation requires considering the comprehensive effects of hydrogen, helium and dose rate to fully understand the microstructure evolution of material in an irradiated environment. Here, the characterization and evolution of dislocation loops in pure iron were investigated under heavy ion irradiation with four different injected gas ion types (Fe+, Fe+ & H2+, Fe+ & He+ and Fe+ & H2+ & He+) and under Fe+ & He+ irradiation with four different dose rates using in-situ transmission electron microscopy at 723 K. Compared to the Fe+ single-beam irradiation, the additional injection of H or He, or co-injecting H & He, mainly promoted the nucleation of dislocation loops at the early stage of irradiation and enhanced loop growth after that. Among them, the simultaneous irradiation of Fe+ & H2+& He+ triple beams were most pronounced. Moreover, Fe+ & H2+ & He+ triple-beam irradiation resulted in the highest fraction of loops and the highest ratio of the rotation of loop habit-plane. Under Fe+ & He+ dual-beam irradiation, the results demonstrated that as the dose rate increases, the loop density increased and the loop size decreased. Moreover, the fraction of loops at low dose rate was noticeably greater than that at high dose rate. The results of the current work provide important references for a better understanding of the effectiveness of ion irradiation in simulating neutron irradiation. © 2024, The Authors. Microstructural evolution of polymer-derived hexagonal boron nitride fibres under high-temperature stretching

High-temperature stretching plays a crucial role in enhancing the performance of fibres,while a quantitative investigation into the impacts of tension and stretching duration on the microstructure and performance of hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN)fibres remains *** this study,to elucidate the microstructural evolution of the h-BN fibres under thermal stretching,amorphous BN fibres were heated at 2000℃under tension of 30,50,and 70 N for 1,3,and 5 h in a nitrogen ***,the grain size,pore structure,orientation degree,microscopic morphology,and mechanical properties were analysed at room *** results show that high-temperature stretching enhances the orientation degree of the BN fibres,consequently elevating Young’s *** maximum orientation degree of the BN fibres was 86%,aligning with a corresponding Young’s modulus of 206 ***,high-temperature stretching enlarged the sizes of grains and pores,a fact substantiated by the radial cracking of the fibres upon extending thermal stretching *** to the expanded pore structure of the BN fibres and the inability to form a sufficiently strong“card structure”between shorter microfibre bundles,the tensile strength of the BN fibres did not increase continually,reaching a maximum of 1.0 *** observations revealed that the BN fibres,composed of highly oriented lamellar h-BN grains,tend to form radial textures under high-tensile thermal stretching and onion-skin textures under prolonged thermal *** findings offer a theoretical foundation for the preparation of high-performance h-BN fibres.

An inverse design method for supercritical airfoil based on conditional generative models

Inverse design has long been an efficient and powerful design tool in the aircraft *** this paper,a novel inverse design method for supercritical airfoils is proposed based on generative models in deep learning.A Conditional Variational Auto Encoder(CVAE)and an integrated generative network CVAE-GAN that combines the CVAE with the Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Networks(WGAN),are conducted as generative *** are used to generate target wall Mach distributions for the inverse design that matches specified features,such as locations of suction peak,shock and aft *** and quantitative results show that both adopted generative models can generate diverse and realistic wall Mach number distributions satisfying the given *** CVAE-GAN model outperforms the CVAE model and achieves better reconstruction accuracies for all the samples in the ***,a deep neural network for nonlinear mapping is adopted to obtain the airfoil shape corresponding to the target wall Mach number *** performances of the designed deep neural network are fully demonstrated and a smoothness measurement is proposed to quantify small oscillations in the airfoil surface,proving the authenticity and accuracy of the generated airfoil shapes.

The closed Brayton cycle operating with supercritical carbon dioxide is an attractive option for geothermal, nuclear and solar energy conversion. As one of the key component, the performance of the supercritical carbon dioxide compressor attracts lots of attention. Up to now, most studies focused on the centrifugal compressor and the design method of the axial compressor operating with supercritical carbon dioxide is far to matured. The effects of the tip clearance size on the tip leakage flow in an axial compressor are numerically investigated in the present work, with different tip clearance size and operating points. To fully take advantages of the matured design method of the air compressor, a similar air compressor is simulated as a comparison group. The results show that the flow characteristics especially the static pressure coefficient and tip leakage vortex structure is almost the same between S-CO2 compressor and the similar air compressor with small tip clearance size. This is also suitable for the large tip clearance size at low and middle span, while obvious discrepancy arises at high span. The tip leakage vortex of SCO2 compressor is stronger and more downstream than the air compressor. Understanding these effects is helpful to extend the abundant experience of the air compressor to design S-CO2 compressor. Copyright © 2022 by ASME.

Effects of non-viable microbial film on corrosion of pipeline steel in soil environment

In this paper, the effects of the corrosion product and non-viable microbial film on the corrosion behavior of X80 steel in the aerobic soil solution were studied via electrochemical measurement, scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). Uniform corrosion dominated the corrosion process of the control coupon, while the local corrosion sensibility of the corrosion products(CP) and microbial film(MF) coupons increased in the same environment. Generally, the original corrosion product on the steel surface enhanced its corrosion rate at the initial stage of the experiment, while the enhancing role decreased at the end of the experiment. The non-viable microbial film on the steel surface intensively accelerated its corrosion rate at the initial stage, and the acceleration role always existed throughout the experiment. The acceleration role of the microbial film may stem from the combined effects of extracellular polymer substance(EPS), Fe oxides and sulfides.

Energy-efficient data gathering in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) has been widely studied, and compressive sensing (CS) is an effective solution. CS can guarantee the sink node to accurately obtain all sensor nodes’ raw data with low data gathering cost, which is unlike the data aggregation solutions that usually result in large information loss. The existing compressive sensing methods used in WSN, either all nodes participate in compressive sensing computation which means all nodes need to delivery cumulative projection results with a size several times of raw data, or assume that the communication capability of nodes is heterogeneous (some nodes have the communication capability of one hop to sink). This paper aims at general WSN consisting of sensor nodes with isomorphic communication capability, effectively designs a new hybrid routing algorithm for two categories of nodes (i.e., perform compressive sensing calculation or not). This algorithm reduces part of sensor nodes’ transmission cost when applying compressive sensing, while remaining the quality of reconstructed data. Extensive number of simulation experiments have been done, and the results verify the advantages of this method over the existing methods. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Demonstration of radar-aided flexible communication in a photonics-based W-band distributed integrated sensing and communication system for 6G

This paper experimentally demonstrates a distributed photonics-based W-band integrated sensing and communication(ISAC) system, in which radar sensing can aid the communication links in alignment and data rate estimation. As a proof-of-concept, the ISAC system locates the users, guides the alignment, and sets a communication link with the estimated highest data rate. A peak net data rate of 68.6 Gbit/s and a target sensing with a less-than-1-cm error and a sub-2-cm resolution have been tested over a 10-km fiber and a 1.15-m free space transmission in the photonics-based W-band ISAC system. The achievable net data rates of the users at different locations estimated by sensing are experimentally verified.
