A deep learning based method with the convolutional neural network (CNN) algorithm for determining the impact parameters is developed using the constrained molecular dynamics model simulations, focusing on the heavy-ion collisions at the low-intermediate incident energies from several ten to one hundred MeV/nucleon in which the emissions of heavy fragments with the charge numbers larger than 3 become crucial. To make the CNN applicable in the task of the impact parameter determination at the present energy range, specific improvements are made in the input selection, the CNN construction and the CNN training. It is demonstrated from the comparisons of the deep CNN method and the conventional methods with the impact parameter-sensitive observables, that the deep CNN method shows better performance for determining the impact parameters, especially leading to the capability of providing better recognition of the central collision events. With a proper consideration of the experimental filter effect in both training and testing processes to keep consistency with the actual experiments, the good performance of the deep CNN method holds, and shows significantly better in terms of predicting the impact parameters and recognizing the central collision events, compared to that of the conventional methods, demonstrating the superiority of the present deep CNN method. The deep CNN method with the consideration of the filter effect is applied in the deduction of nuclear stopping power. Higher accuracy for the stopping power deduction is achieved benefitting from the better impact parameter determination using the deep CNN method, compared to using the the conventional methods. This result reveals the importance to select a reliable impact parameter determination method in the experimental deduction of the nuclear stopping power as well as other observables. © 2021, CC BY.

It has been proved that fire accident frequency in nuclear power plants is higher than we thought it was and fire accidents have a huge significant impact on the safety of nuclear power, so it is extremely necessary to analyze fire risks. Electrical cabinets are one of the most important fire ignition sources in nuclear power plants, since there are normally many combustible cable bundles inside them. When fire modeling has been performed in nuclear power plants, past studies have only considered a single fire scenario, which means that the uncertainties associated with fire combustion and propagation are ignored. The paper is based on electrical cabinet fire scenario simulations in nuclear power plants and analyze the uncertainty of input parameters related to fire combustion and fire detection by coupling Latin Hypercube Sampling and software-CFAST. Statistic results can be used for quantitative analysis in Fire Probabilistic Safety Assessment. © 2018 International Association for Probablistic Safety Assessment and Management (IAPSAM). Hydrogen combustion or detonation happened in the containment within the process of the small reactor severe accident may threaten the integrity of the containment. In this paper, based on systemic design of the Small Modular reactor (SMR) surrounded by the steel containment, an innovatory combustible gas control strategy which using the passive containment cooling system (PCCS) and passive autocatalytic recombiners (PARs) is made to control the hydrogen risk in the small steel containment. A severe accident hydrogen risk analysis model is built by the integrative severe accident analysis program MELCOR, the validity of the strategy is analyzed at a typical severe accident. With this understanding, a three-dimensional computed fluid dynamics hydrogen behavior analysis model of the small steel containment is established by GASFLOW code, and the gas distribution non-uniformity in the containment is analyzed. The result shows that the steam condensation process in the containment could be slowed down by controlling the action of PCCS, and the steam concentration in the containment could be in the range of high level, while the oxygen concentration could be in the range of low level. If the PARs were added, the PARs could consume the hydrogen and oxygen in the containment sustainedly. The containment atmosphere could be in an inerted condition during the accident process, even though the hydrogen concentration in the containment is high. The gas distribution non-uniformity analysis result shows that oxygen concentration was low in the extent of high hydrogen concentration and high steam concentration, the steam, oxygen and hydrogen distribution non-uniformity would not affect the inerted atmosphere of containment. The mass dependence of the transverse flow for Z=1–5 fragments from the collisions of Ar40+Al27, Ar40+Ti48, and Ar40+Ni58 at 47 MeV/nucleon is investigated experimentally in this article. The transverse flow values are determined using the in-plane components of the fragment transverse momenta, where three conventional methods, i.e., the kinetic flow tensor method, the transverse momentum analysis method, and the azimuthal correlation method, are applied to reconstruct the reaction plane in an event-by-event basis. It is demonstrated from the comparison of the present experimental mass dependent flow measurements and the model simulations using an improved antisymmetrized molecular dynamics model that the experimentally observed abnormal α transverse flow enhancement is closely related to the reaction plane reconstruction procedure in the flow extraction. We further investigate the physical existence of the abnormal α flow behavior using a two-particle azimuthal correlation method, which allows us to provide the relative flow magnitude information with an identification of fragment charge number without the knowledge of the reaction plane differing from the three conventional methods. It is found that the relative flow magnitudes deduced from the two-particle azimuthal correlation functions with an identification of Z, with the correction for the recoil effect imposed by the momentum conservation, show a monotonically increasing trend as a function of fragment charge number, with no exception of the α flow enhancement. These results, in addition to those from the improved antisymmetrized molecular dynamics model simulations, definitely provide experimental evidences for the inexistence of the abnormal α flow behavior in the heavy-ion collisions at the present incident energy region in nature.

This Paper presents sub-cooled boiling two-phase natural convective using computational fluid dynamics(CFD) model for the application to the passive residual heat removal system of boiling water reactor. Sensitivity studies on meshing scheme, grid size, as well as time step are also performed in previous study to minimize the influence of numerical discretization. Comparison between single/ two-phase CFD model proved the necessity of two-phase CFD model as it can reasonably predict the temperature jump observed in the experiment which could not be reproduced by single phase CFD model. Discrepancy between numerical simulation and experiment data due to the choice of different turbulent models and CFD software’s simulation results are also discussed in order to verify the best practice for this simulation.. The calculation shows that the the temperature distribution, bubble appearance time and locus predicted by the two-phase CFD simulation for sub-cooled boiling natural convective is well consistent with experiment data, which confirms the numerical calculation creditability and accuracy and the possibility for developing new heat transfer model using such methodology is reasonably suggested.. Base on the built two-phase CFD simulation method, transient characteristics of passive residual heat removal system for ESBWR（Economic Simplified Boiling Water reactor）is simulated and a promising tank temperature distribution is obtained compared with experiment data, which further strengthen the confidence of engineering application of two-phase CFD model on prediction of natural circulation heat transfer characteristic of passive residual heat removal system. © 2018 International Topical Meeting on Advances in Thermal Hydraulics, ATH 2018 - Embedded Topical Meeting. The windowed multipole method is a promising technique to efficiently perform Doppler broadening of nuclear cross section data and has so far been based on the conversion of resolved resonance parameters to the pole representation. However, 40% of ENDF/B-VII. 1 nuclides cannot be directly converted in windowed multipole format because some nuclides are provided directly as point-wise data in the evaluation or the presence of non-smooth point-wise data that prevents the transformation. A new approach based on Vector Fitting technique was recently investigated to convert point-wise cross section data to poles and residues. This paper presents a generalized Vector Fitting algorithm which is able to generate optimized multipole parameters from ENDF point-wise data and applicable to a wide range of nuclides. Using this algorithm, a comprehensive windowed multipole library which contains all ENDF/B-VII.l nuclides was produced for the first time. Accuracy of the library was demonstrated by microscopic cross section comparisons at different temperatures, and calculation results of the BEAVRS benchmark were performed to demonstrate its applicability to realistic problems. © 2018 International Conference on Physics of reactors, PHYSOR 2018: reactor Physics Paving the Way Towards More Efficient systems. Ratcheting Behavior of SA508-3 Steel at Elevated Temperature:Experimental Observation and Simulation

A series of monotonic uniaxial tensile tests, strain-controlled and stress-controlled cyclic tests of SA508-3 steel were conducted from 25 to 350℃. Results showed that the steel exhibited temperature-dependent cyclic softening characteristic and obvious ratcheting behavior, and dynamic strain aging was observed in the range of 250-350℃. Based on experimental observations, a temperature-dependent cyclic plastic constitutive model was proposed by introducing the nonlinear cyclic softening and kinematic hardening rules, and the dynamic strain aging was also considered into the constitutive model. Comparisons between experiments and simulations were carded out to validate the proposed model at elevated temperature.

A multi-objective optimization of non-uniform beams is presented for minimum radiated sound power and weight. The transfer matrix method is used to compute the structural and acoustic responses of a non-uniform beam accurately and efficiently. The multi-objective particle swarm optimization technique is applied to search the Pareto optimal solutions that represent various compromises between weight and sound radiation. Several constraints are imposed, which substantially reduce the volume fraction of feasible solutions in the design space. Two non-uniform beams with different boundary conditions are studied to demonstrate the multi-objective optimal designs of the structure. © 2017, Tianjin University and Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Self-reconfigurable modular robots have shown great potential in carrying out multiple tasks in different conditions. A connection of both flexibility and reliability is critical for realizing the docking and transformation of the modular robots. We propose a new design of connectors based on SMA which has the advantages of high autonomy, small size and high speed. The couples of connectors consist of active and passive connector. In the active connector, a two-way rotary SMA actuator is used as the actuation mechanism. The double-layer cam and claws are used as an executive mechanism. The passive connector can be securely docked in five different facets for 3D reconfigurations. The multisensory system and hardware architecture provide the foundation for control strategies. The design and the prototype of the connector are described in this paper. Finally, experimental results to evaluate the performance of docking are presented.
