Deep learning from three-dimensional Lithium-ion battery multiphysics model Part II:Convolutional neural network and long short-term memory integration

Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries have emerged as a cornerstone of electric vehicles (EVs), enabling the road transportation towards net zero. The success of electric vehicles largely hinges on the battery performance and safety. It is challenging to test and predict battery performance and safety issues by conventional methods, which are usually time-consuming and expensive, involving significant human and measurement errors. To enable the quick estimation of battery performance and safety, we developed three data-driven machine learning (ML) models, namely a convolutional neural network (CNN), a long short-term memory (LSTM), and a CNN-LSTM to predict battery discharge curves and local maximum temperature (hot spot) under various operating conditions. The developed ML models mitigated data scarcity by employing a three-dimensional multi-physics Li-ion battery model to generate enormous and diverse high-quality data. It was found the CNN-LSTM model outperforms the others and achieved high accuracy of 98.68% to learn discharge curves and battery maximum temperature, owing to the integration of spatial and sequential feature extraction. The battery safety can be improved by comparing the predicted maximum battery temperature against safe temperature threshold. The proposed data development and data-driven ML models are of great potential to provide digital tools for engineering high-performance and safe EVs.

In wireless caching networks, users' content request behavior is a compelling aspect for maximizing the achievable revenue. Multinomial logit (MNL) choice model is commonly used to characterize the relationship between users' request behavior and the assortment decision. However, conventional MNL model assumes that the systems show an assortment of content items to users, and a user can purchase the items among the assortment or leave without consuming anything. Yet in most cases, users tend to observe the assorted items, and select within the list in accordance with their personal preference or just search for the items they are interested in by closing the assortment set directly. To address this issue, a revised MNL (RevMNL) choice model is proposed in this paper, wherein we presume that all the remaining items will be shown to the user if the pre-determined assortment set is unsatisfactory. Under which, we mathematically derive the content demanding probability distribution per user. Thereafter, the assortment decision-making problem is studied to maximize system's revenue, which is a non-convex integer programming problem. By using structure-oriented geometric properties, we design an iterative algorithm with quadratic time complexity to obtain the globally optimal solution to the formulated optimization problem. Extensive simulation results validate the superiority of our devised scheme in terms of system revenue and cache hit ratio when compared against various baselines under the conventional MNL model.

A transmissive broadband wide-angle linear-to-circular polarization converter based on metal strips loaded metasurface is proposed in this paper. The converter is composed of three metallic layers separated by dielectric substrates and the metal strips printed on each layer keep orthogonal to each other. To further investigate the operating mechanism of the design, equivalent circuit models are presented. Moreover, the converter is verified to be effective in polarization conversion through the full-wave simulation. With the insertion loss less than 2 dB and 3 dB, the simulation 3-dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth keeps 67% and 76%, respectively. Furthermore, at an increased incident angle of 40°, the device can still maintain an AR bandwidth over 47% at 2 dB insertion loss, which manifests the validity and rationality of the converter design. © 2022 IEEE.

Since the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communication system has the advantages of low latency, global coverage, and rapid reconstruction, it has become the main networking method of satellite networks [1]. Routing is the basis for realizing satellite communications. Because the complexity of the shortest path algorithm basically determines the computational complexity of the routing algorithm, the shortest path algorithm is the core of the routing problem. This paper attempts to use the laws of LEO satellite network topology to calculate the shortest path between the source satellite and the destination satellite. First, we derive the function of inter-satellite link (ISL) length with time and establish the geometric model of the satellite network. Then, on the basis of this model, we establish the shortest path algorithm between source-destination pairs (SD pairs) - the symmetric geometry algorithm (SGA). In addition, in order to ensure the optimality of the path, we extend the applicable scene of the model from the two-dimensional plane to the three-dimensional sphere. The simulation test results show that compared with the traditional Dijkstra’s algorithm, SGA can greatly improve the calculation speed of the shortest path while ensuring the optimality of the path.

In this paper, a novel band stop decoupling structure (BSDS) for circularly polarized microstrip antenna array with different intervals to realize mutual coupling reduction is proposed. The BSDS is composed of complementary split-rings resonator (CSRRs) and split-rings resonator (SRRs), where the CSRRs block TM waves by electric resonance and the SRRs block TE waves by magnetic resonance, respectively. The proposed design is verified by the simulation and the results indicate that the isolation enhancement more than 35 dB can be obtained at the center frequency of 3.4 GHz when the center spacing is 0.37 λ0. Futhermore, when the center spacing reduces to 0.26 λ0, the mutual coupling remains below 25 dB. Besides, the BSDS can improve the radiation pattern offset without affecting the gain and the backward radiation of antennas. © 2022 IEEE.

The Android operating system released by Google in 2007 has experienced very significant development. In 2019, the number of Android application users reached 2.5 billion. One of the contributing factors is the nature of the android application, which is very flexible and easy to install. Users can download APK files on the internet. Generally, APK files are stored in archive format, so they are pretty easy to manage. However, APK files may be used to spread malware behind this convenience. This study aims to provide an overview of the process of planting malware/backdoor on Android applications and how to prevent it. This study initiated the injection of malicious code on five android applications, namely WhatsApp, Telegram, DroidCam, Fifa Mobile, and Tokopedia. According to the results, four applications were successfully injected, while one application failed. The failure most likely occurred as a result of the application's source code being obfuscated. Obfuscation is therefore strongly advised for Android applications to prevent code injection that could potentially lead to malware insertion. © 2023 IEEE.

Based on the hall for workshop of metasynthetic engineering theory as proposed by Qian Xuesen and AI agent technological approaches, we proposed an AI agent-driven collaborative system design, with a focus on the design of modules such as knowledge base, task decomposition, and tool integration. To address the deficiency of dynamic adjustment capabilities in existing systems, this paper proposes to integrate chain of thought and critical path algorithms to decompose research tasks, and solve problems caused by long execution chains. The system design incorporates essential characteristics of metasynthetic engineering, demonstrating strong domain adaptability in complex decisionmaking scenarios while establishing an extensible technical paradigm for intelligent research enhancement.

Optical Character Recognition is widely used in scenarios from license plate recognition, chip detection to text translation. However, in some special scenarios, there are very few data for training or the target datasets are not marked. This paper mainly aims to establish a multi-scene text recognition model that can achieve accurate results even when the target test dataset is not marked. The model reduces the distance between domains at the feature level by using an adversarial loss and flipping the gradient. For the adversarial loss, each letter has a different domain discriminator to align the features at the character level. We also align the source domain features and target domain features in the background. Experimental results show that our model achieves good performance when the training dataset and test dataset have domain shift, and suggest possible scenarios for potential applications. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper presents a collaborative fall detection and response system integrating Wi-Fi sensing with robotic assistance. The proposed system leverages channel state information (CSI) disruptions caused by movements to detect falls in non-line-of-sight (NLOS) scenarios, offering non-intrusive monitoring. Besides, a companion robot is utilized to provide assistance capabilities to navigate and respond to incidents autonomously, improving efficiency in providing assistance in various environments. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system in detecting falls and responding effectively. © 2024 IEEE.

Fully Ceramic Microencapsulated (FCM) fuel, fabricated using 3D printing technology, incorporates traditional Tristructural-Isotropic (TRISO) fuel particles embedded within a 3D-printed SiC matrix. This fuel type shows great potential for compact, high-temperature nuclear reactors. However, comprehensive performance analysis remains challenging due to the multilayered structure, complex material properties, and the irradiation behavior of numerous TRISO particles within the matrix. To address these challenges, this study aims to apply finite element (FE)-based computational homogenization to evaluate the fuel's thermomechanical properties. First, a detailed finite element analysis (FEA) of a single TRISO particle's performance was conducted, focusing primarily on the Buffer-IPyC gap size change during irradiation, a critical factor influencing the fuel's thermal performance. Second, the homogenization of a single TRISO particle was performed using FEA, accounting for the changes in the Buffer-IPyC gap size. Finally, homogenized TRISO particles were randomly distributed and perfectly bonded within a 3D-printed SiC matrix to form a Representative Volume Element (RVE). The FE homogenization of the RVE was then conducted to derive the effective thermomechanical properties of the FCM fuel. The packing fraction of TRISO particles in the matrix ranged from 10 % to 50 %, with temperature and burnup conditions spanning 800–1600 K and 0–16 % FIMA, respectively. Results show that irradiation significantly affects the effective properties of the fuel, though this impact diminishes as burnup increases. Additionally, the effective thermal conductivity of the FCM fuel decreases with increasing TRISO packing fraction, assuming the thermal conductivity of the SiC matrix exceeds that of TRISO particles. This study provides a valuable reference for the design and optimization of FCM fuel for future nuclear applications. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd
