Introducing virtualization enhances the flexibility of time-sensitive networking (TSN), wherein applications manifest as service function chains comprising a series of virtual network functions (VNFs). However, such virtualized TSN realizes determinacy through global configuration, being too complicated to serve dynamic applications in time. To address this issue, we innovatively propose to achieve TSN scheduling by distributively executing admission control (AC), whereby the scheduling complexity is radically reduced. Specifically, we first build a two-way AC model that captures TSN multi-queue characteristics. Then, we define admissible regions of nodes and links, working as metrics for AC decision-making and enabling feasible TSN scheduling. Built upon this, we propose a joint AC and VNF embedding mechanism, Rapid Admission Control (RapidAC), which consists of two algorithms. The first algorithm responds to dynamic applications rapidly and derives node-mapping solutions by judging nodes’ admissible regions. Based on this, the second algorithm augments the detailed VNF embedding solution according to admissible regions of links. Simulation results show that RapidAC reduces runtime by 90% compared with existing TSN scheduling algorithms.

Ultra-Stable Zinc-Iodine Batteries with High Mass Loading Enabled by Chemisorption Effect

Rechargeable Zn-I2 batteries featuring intrinsic safety and high energy density demonstrate promising energy storage prospects. However, the poor interface stability of the Zn anode and the undesirable shuttle effect severely hinder the device stability due to the diffusive characteristics of the soluble polyiodides in aqueous media. Here, a synergetic physicochemical strategy that combines physical constraints and chemical absorption was proposed by developing a composite host matrix with a core/porous-sheath structure, which can effectively confine iodine species. Initial I− ions bind securely with carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (c-MCNTs) to form the C–I bonds through chemical interactions. Furthermore, the pore structure of microporous carbon (MPC) not only restricts the iodine species in the pores through physisorption (secondary adsorption) but also facilitates the diffusion of Zn2+. As a result, the developed aqueous Zn battery with CNT@MPC12-I− cathode delivers superior reversible rate capacity (0.35 mA h cm–2 at 20 mA cm–2) and remarkable cycling performance (12000 cycles at 10 mA cm–2). Notably, such cathode can also exhibit an impressive capacity retention of 97% after 8600 cycles, even at an ultrahigh loading mass of 16.05 mg cm–2. As such, our strategy can be extended to design other metal I2 batteries with high loading and long-life expectancy. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

GeoReF: Geometric Alignment Across Shape Variation for Category-level Object Pose Refinement

Object pose refinement is essential for robust object pose estimation. Previous work has made significant progress towards instance-level object pose refinement. Yet, category-level pose refinement is a more challenging problem due to large shape variations within a category and the discrepancies between the target object and the shape prior. To address these challenges, we introduce a novel architecture for category-level object pose refinement. Our approach integrates an HS-layer and learnable affine transformations, which aims to enhance the extraction and alignment of geometric information. Additionally, we introduce a cross-cloud transformation mechanism that efficiently merges diverse data sources. Finally, we push the limits of our model by incorporating the shape prior information for translation and size error prediction. We conducted extensive experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework. Through extensive quantitative experiments, we demonstrate significant improvement over the baseline method by a large margin across all metrics. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

In the process of mechanical analysis for equipment and pipe of reactor coolant system (RCS), due to the severe load condition, the stress analysis cannot satisfy the evaluation criteria at times, the limit analysis and plastic analysis is necessary. This paper focus on the limit load and the plastic collapse load of the straight pipe and three-way pipe of reactor coolant system (such as the nozzle of main equipment and the pipe of main system) under combined loads, the analytical method and the finite element (FE) method are adopted in this paper. Get the limit load curve and the plastic collapse load curve of straight pipe and three-way pipe under combined loads, the effect of load history and structure size is analyzed. Tangent intersection criterion (TI) and Plastic work-tangent criterion (PWT) are adopted to study the plastic collapse load curve of straight pipe under combined load of pressure and bending moment. Get the theoretical equation of the limit load and plastic collapse curve of straight pipe under combined loads;get the theoretical equation of the limit load surface of straight pipe under combined load of pressure, bending moment and torque. Titanium alloys are widely used in various fields for its high strength, good corrosion resistance and high heat resistance. Many countries in the world have recognized the importance of titanium alloy materials, and have developed and applied them in practice. In order to accurately describe uniaxial tensile behavior and ratcheting behavior of material, a series of experiments of TA17 were conducted at room temperature and 350 ℃, including the uniaxial tensile experiments of TA17 with different processing techniques, the strain controlled cyclic experiments and the stress controlled cyclic experiments. The uniaxial tensile curves of materials with different processing techniques are discussed. The effects of different strain amplitudes of cyclic straining were analyzed. The effects of different combinations of mean stress and stress amplitude were analyzed. Finally, the uniaxial stress and strain curves with different processing techniques, cyclic stress and strain curves under different strain amplitudes and stress amplitude were obtained. The results show that the stress and strain curves of longitudinal plates and forgings are the lowest, while the stress and strain curves of transverse plates and bars are the highest. TA17 exhibited significant cyclic stability under different strain amplitudes and has obvious ratcheting behavior under asymmetric stress control. The obtained conclusions are helpful to improve the mechanical properties of TA17 and establish the cyclic constitutive model in the following work. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.

In robotic insertion tasks where the uncertainty exceeds the allowable tolerance, a good search strategy is essential for successful insertion and significantly influences efficiency. The commonly used blind search method is time-consuming and does not exploit the rich contact information. In this paper, we propose a novel search strategy that actively utilizes the information contained in the contact configuration and shows high efficiency. In particular, we formulate this problem as a Partially Observable Markov Decision Process (POMDP) with carefully designed primitives based on an in-depth analysis of the contact configuration's static stability. From the formulated POMDP, we can derive a novel search strategy. Thanks to its simplicity, this search strategy can be incorporated into a Finite-State-Machine (FSM) controller. The behaviors of the FSM controller are realized through a low-level Cartesian Impedance Controller. Our method is based purely on the robot's proprioceptive sensing and does not need visual or tactile sensors. To evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed strategy and control framework, we conduct extensive comparison experiments in simulation, where we compare our method with the baseline approach. The results demonstrate that our proposed method achieves a higher success rate with a shorter search time and search trajectory length compared to the baseline method. Additionally, we show that our method is robust to various initial displacement errors.

Capillary Limit of a Sodium Screen-Wick Heat Pipe

High-temperature alkali-metal heat pipes are passive heat transfer devices, where the capillary pressure created by the menisci in the wick pumps the condensed fluid back to the evaporator. Thus, the heat pipe heat transfer capacity is limited by the maximum capillary pressure at high heat fluxes. This work presents a two-dimensional heat and mass transfer model that includes the capillary and gravitational forces that are used to predict the capillary limit which is then validated by experimental data. The predicted critical heat flux temperature has an error of less than 20℃ and a relative error of 6%. The predicted transient sequences are consistent with the measurements. The model shows that capillary limit is affected by inclination angle, heat flux, and wick structure. For inclinations, the critical heat flux at the capillary limit is linearly related to the inclination angle with the predicted temperature rising 2 ~10℃/s during the early stage of the capillary limit critical heat flux condition. The evaporator temperature oscillates before the capillary limit with positive inclinations. For heat fluxes, increasing the heat flux by 17% increases the temperature increase rate 10 fold with a longer dryout length. The evaporator exhibits hysteresis after the capillary limit due to partial dryout of evaporator. For wick structures, reducing the mesh screen pitch from 80 μm to 15 μm reduces the critical heat flux to 10% of the CHF at 80 μm. This model can accurately predict the heat pipe temperature variations at the capillary limit and can explain the physical mechanisms for the dryout oscillations and recovery hysteresis at the capillary limit. Thus, the measurements and model provide analytical guidelines for designing heat pipe cooling systems. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Remaining Useful Life Prediction Based on Spatiotemporal Autoencoder

Remaining Useful Life (RUL) prediction has received a lot of attention as the core of prognostics and health management (PHM) technology. To address the problem that most current studies do not consider structural information between sensors, we propose a RUL prediction method based on the spatiotemporal autoencoder (TSAE). The method consists of a spatiotemporal encoder, a decoder and a RUL prediction module, where the spatiotemporal encoder is used to extract time-dependent and structural information from the data. For the extracted features, a feature fusion method based on graph attention mechanism is used to fuse the two types of information and finally use the fused new features for RUL prediction. To validate the effectiveness of STAE, we conducted experiments using NASA's C-MAPSS dataset. Experimental results show that our proposed STAE method achieves best results that the measurement RMSE is reduced by 3.72% compared with the state-of-the-art methods on four datasets. © 2022, The Authors. This study addresses the robust output containment control problem of heterogeneous uncertain multi-agent systems under Markovian switching topologies. A novel distributed output feedback controller is proposed. Based on the internal model approach, the main result shows that the output of each follower agent converges to the convex hull formed by the outputs of the leader agents under the proposed distributed controller. An illustrative example is given to validate the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

This study investigates the impact of roughness elements on fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics in narrow rectangular channels. The results show that when the fluid flows over roughness elements, it induces vortices near the wall, disturbing the flow and heat transfer boundary layers. This enhances heat transfer while simultaneously increasing flow resistance. Among different roughness types, cylindrical roughness elements demonstrate a more substantial improvement in both heat transfer efficiency and friction factor compared to cubic elements. The Nusselt number is found to be non-monotonic related to the height of the roughness elements, while the friction factor increases with height. Additionally, larger roughness element diameters lead to higher Nusselt numbers and friction factors. Further analysis reveals that under conditions where the spacing and height remain unchanged, an increase in the roughness elements quantity results in a diminished enhancement of heat transfer. The base edge length of the roughness elements has a more significant impact on heat transfer capacity than the additional heated area, while the additional area primarily affects the flow resistance, causing the friction factor to increase with the number of roughness elements.
