Subgroup method for resonance self-shielding calculation and research on resonance interference effect

We combined the subgroup method and the method of characteristics for neutron resonance self-shielding calculation, and programmed a resonance calculation code SGMOC. This code is based on the WIMSD format multi-group data library. The numerical results of SGMOC are in good agreement with those of MCNP, and thus SGMOC has high calculation precision and geometry flexibility. Based on the SGMOC code, we studied two modification methods for the resonance interference effect calculation. The conditional probability method had a correction effect about 30~180 pcm for kinf calculation of UO2 fuel cell. The method by virtue of NJOY code had a correction effect about 20~130 pcm for kinf calculation of UO2 fuel cell.

Based on generalized coarse mesh rebalance (GCMR) method, this paper proposes a new acceleration method for the method of characteristics (MOC) in unstructured meshes: the generalized coarse-mesh finite difference (GCMFD) method. The GCMFD method, which applies equivalent width of coarse mesh to establish the finite difference discretization, can use unstructured coarse meshes composed of adjacent fine meshes to speed up the MOC iteration. The convergence property of the GCMFD method is controlled by width factor. However, the optimal width factor cannot be given a priori. Method of adjusting width factor automatically is proposed in this paper. Finally, the GCMFD method is adopted in the 3-D neutron transport MOC code TCM. Numerical tests show that the GCMFD, using generalized-geometry coarse meshes, can accelerate the MOC iteration with good speedup.

This paper dissertates the function of Virtual Reality technology in the product development process, and discusses the advantage in building virtual reality design system with the PTC DIVISION Mockup software. The four key technology projects of building Virtual Reality design system are explained simultaneously. At present, the information and control system (I&C) and operation support system (OSS) of the nuclear power plants (NPPs) are designed separately;their structures and functions are independent. So, the compatibility, availability and dependability of them are not desirable, and the comprehensive advantages of them are not to exert fully. In order to resolve these problems, this paper presents a new idea that designing and developing the I&C and the OSS coordinately, so that their structures and functions are integrated. Firstly, this paper reviewed the evolution and application status of the OSS. And then, the realization methods and forms for the integrated system are analyzed. At last, the hierarchy and architecture of the integrated system which have the double-functions of the I&C and OSS is founded. Analysis and study is also carried out in terms of the hierarchy and characteristics of the integrated system. © 2010 IEEE.

A new type of resistance wind rotor with power-transmission cavity and three blades vertical axis is proposed. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is employed to numerically research the performance of blades in five typical rotation angles. The pressure of the wind rotor in the fluid field is got based on the static pressure contours of the blades in the five rotation angles. The simulation results show the positive pressure and the negative pressure appear around the blades in a cycle. Both of them can be motive power and resistance power to the wind rotor. The both power cancel out and the total torque output varies with the rotate location. Simulation results show that the largest torque appears at 90while the least torque appears at 307deg;. Then, an instrument that measures torque output of wind rotor is designed. The torque output of the rotor in the five typed rotation angles is tested in a circle. The result indicates that distribution of the static torque output is like cosine wave in a cycle which is consistent with the results of the CFD. The studies provide the theory basis and the experimental introduction of the wind rotor designing.

Loading pattern optimization (LPO) for a PWR in nuclear power plant contains three parts: fuel assembly location optimization, burnable poison placement optimization, and used fuel assembly orientation optimization. To solve the former two parts, this paper devises an innovative stochastic evolutionary algorithm - Interval Bound Algorithm (IBA), which can optimize fuel assembly location and burnable poison placement together. IBA just uses the fuel assembly's infinite multiplication factor to get rid of unfavorable patterns and to explore new promising solution space. To solve the last part, this paper applies Estimation of Distribution Algorithms (EDAs), which also belong to evolutionary algorithms. These three parts depend on each other, so it is better not to solve them separately. In order to optimize these parts in a coupled way, we use Symbiotic Co-evolutionary Algorithm (SCA) to incorporate IBA and EDAs. This technique could reflect the real optimization process. Based on these algorithms, the corresponding LPO code of IBALPO is developed. To avoid search direction to offset for inconsistency between the LP search code and the design code, IBALPO directly adopts production core design code to evaluate LPs in a parallel computation environment. Finally, this code system is used to solve a realistic reload problem to show its performance. Obtained results have illustrated that IBALPO is efficient and robust. It can find satisfying LPs in two days using 18 CPUs after evaluating about 10000 LPs for a core containing 157 assemblies.

Finite element analysis for effects of stochastic properties of particles on ratcheting of SiCP/6061Al composites

Based on the mesoscopic finite element model of particle reinforced composites, the effects of stochastic properties of SiC particles on the ratcheting behavior of SiCP/6061Al composites were numerically analyzed by employing a 3D multi-particulate unit cell and using an advanced cyclic plastic constitutive model. In the simulation, a 3D multi-particle unit cell containing the stochastic particle properties was first generated by the random sequential adsorption (RSA) method, and then the effects of the number of particles, the particle arrangement, shape, size and their stochastic distributions on the ratcheting of the composites were discussed by the numerical simulations. The results show that the smaller the particulate size and the higher the proportion of the particles distributing near the surface of matrix as well as the more the number of particulates contained in the unit cell, the higher the resistance to the ratcheting deformation. Meanwhile, the modeled composite with uniform distribution of particle size and location presents higher resistance to the ratcheting deformation than that with random distribution. The assumptions of spherical particle and its uniform distributions in size and location in the 3D unit cell can provide a reasonable simulation to the ratcheting of the particle reinforced metal matrix composites.

Owing to energy crisis and global warming, people have to seek for new energy sources to substitute fossil fuels. Human being would maintain persistent development by means of new replaceable energy sources. As a kind of replaceable energy source, geothermal power is attracting people more and more attention. The technology of geothermal power generation has been gradually recognized and applied around the world. Heat exchange is the basic principle of geothermal power generation. A lot of heats stored in dry hot rocks under the ground can be carried out by high-pressure medium. The heat energy drives the steam turbine generator to work. Therefore, the heat exchange between rock and high-pressure fluid through the dry hot rock crannies is a key problem which needs to be solved. Based on the geological structure of rocks, the hypothetical cranny among dry hot rocks is put forward in this paper. The model of a single cranny is established too. The heat exchange between rock and high-pressure fluid through the dry hot rock crannies is analyzed based on the theory of heat transfer and hydrodynamics. The relationship among high-pressure fluid temperature, fluid velocity, dry hot rock crannies length and dry hot rock temperature field is obtained using the single cranny model. It may be useful for the development and application of geothermal resources. Copyright © 2010 by ASME.

This paper analyzes the variation of A-phase and B-phase pulse signals that displacement sensor outputs. A new anti-jamming counting approach is designed according to Gray code. This counting approach does not cause error count and counting precision is improved by four times frequency count. The principle of hardware and software is indroduced in two application examples. In the first example, the input ports of AT89C52 MCU are connected to the outputs of hand rotary encoder. The MCU constantly checks the state of inputs in the timer interrupt and counts with this counting approach, then the count value is transfered to host computer through the RS422 interface. In the other example, the outputs of optical encoder are connected to the I/O ports of CPLD/FPGA chip which can count with this counting approach. Then the count value is transfered to host MCU/DSP through data lines. The applications resulted that the approach is good and the hardware circuit is simple, stable and reliable. The method has a certain practical value and can be applied to the antijamming counting for the other sensors which have the same output waveform. © 2010 IEEE.

A thermodynamic model of calculating mass action concentrations for structural units or ion couples in NaClO4-H2O and NaF-H2O binary solutions and NaClO4-NaF-H2O ternary strong electrolyte aqueous solutions was developed based on the ion and molecule coexistence theory （IMCT）. A transformation coefficient was needed to compare the calculated mass action concentration and the reported activity, because they were usually obtained at different standard states and concentration units. The results show that transformation coefficients between the calculated mass action concentrations and the reported activities of the same components change in a very narrow range. The transformed mass action concentrations of structural units or ion couples in NaClO4-H2O and NaF-H2O binary solutions agree well with the reported activities. The transformed mass action concentrations of structural units or ion couples in NaClO4-NaF-H2O ternary solution are also in good agreement with the reported activities in a total ionic strength range from 0.1 to 0.9 mol/kg H2O by the 0.1 mol/kg step with different ionic strength fractions of 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.8, and 1, respectively. The results indicate that the developed thermodynamic model can reveal the structural characteristics of binary and ternary strong electrolyte aqueous solutions, and the calculated mass action concentrations of structural units or ion couples also strictly follow the mass action law.
